"Multiple people have been killed in a shooting rampage at a school in Austria
after a former pupil opened fire inside two classrooms
before taking his own life in a toilet.

Authorities in Austria
have confirmed at least 10 people have died and dozens are injured, some seriously,
after a 22-year-old man entered a school in Graz armed with a shotgun and a pistol
before firing at around 10am this morning.

Teachers and pupils are said to have barricaded themselves inside classrooms before they were evacuated
with video showing terrified children holding each other's hands as they flee the building."

Austria School Shooting: A tragic school shooting has shaken the Austrian city of Graz, where gunfire erupted at the BORG Dreierschützengasse upper secondary school on June 10, 2025. Multiple people have been injured, and authorities fear there may be fatalities.According to police spokesperson Fritz Grundnig, the suspected gunman is believed to have died by suicide shortly after carrying out the attack. The identity of the attacker has not yet been released, and the motive remains unknown.Emergency services responded swiftly, cordoning off the area and rushing the injured to local hospitals. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as students and staff fled the premises.Police have launched a full-scale investigation, and further details are expected as this remains a developing story.

The perpetrator has been described as 22-year old "bullied ex-pupil". He probably wasn't bullied by the people he killed since he was older.

The suspected perpetrator purchased one of the weapons just a few days ago.

At three KAGES (Styrian Hospital Association) locations in Graz, injured people are being treated following the shooting. Two adults and five adolescents are being treated at the LKH University Hospital in Graz. "Two patients are in a very critical condition, five are seriously injured, and all are currently in surgery," KAGES said. Another victim is being treated at the LKH Graz II/West location, and four more injured people are being treated at the UKH Graz.
The motive is a mystery: Media reports suggest the 22-year-old former student felt bullied. However, the police have not yet confirmed this. It is also reported that the perpetrator fired a Glock pistol and a shotgun. The former student apparently owned both legally.

The last school shooting in Austria happened in 2018, when a student killed another student.

1993 - a 13-year old injured the headmaster and killed themself
1997 - a 15-year old killed a teacher and seriously injured another
2012 - a pupil shot by father
2018 - a 19-year old shot by another student

''10 dead after school shooting in Graz, with 12 injured - what we know so far

  • Nine people have been killed in a school shooting in Graz by a 21-year-old former student, who then killed himself, it was confirmed (15:32).
  • The suspected shooter was an Austrian citizen who lived in Graz, and likely owned weapons legally, with no previous criminal record (15:36). He attended the school in the past, but did not graduate.
  • 12 further people are injured, “some seriously,” Austria’s interior minister Gerhard Karner said (15:32), confirming earlier reports from emergency services (14:16).
  • Austria will hold a nationwide minute of silence on Wednesday, 10am, and observe three days of national mourning, the country’s chancellor Christian Stocker said, who called the attack “a national tragedy” (15:24).''

Following the attack at a Graz school, the death toll rose to eleven this afternoon.

The crime scene is a high school near Graz train station in the Lend district of Graz. The BORG Dreierschützengasse has approximately 400 students divided into 20 classes and 43 teachers.

The shooter's first name and last name initial were published in the media.

Artur A. is a phantom online: No social media profiles can be found that can be definitively attributed to the 21-year-old Austrian. Thus, little is known today about the alleged greatest mass murderer in the history of the Second Republic.

The "Kronen Zeitung" reported on a suicide note found during a house search.

Police found suicide note ++ Another victim dead

In the suicide note found in the perpetrator's house in the Graz-Umgebung district, Artur A. wrote that he felt bullied. Shortly after the attack, insiders suggested bullying was a likely motive.

It is reported that two citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are among the victims of the tragic attack in Graz, Austria. According to sources close to the investigation, K.J., a 17-year-old boy from Travnik who lived with his family in Styria, was killed, as was H.A., a girl from Cazin. According to unofficial information, according to avaz.ba, another person of Bosnia and Herzegovina origin is in critical condition in the hospital.

IMO:
I wonder if he chose to switch schools because he was so unhappy there or if he didn't have much of a choice due to poor academic performance?

These mass shooters choose to cause suffering in the same place they see as having "wronged" them.

They don't feel a connection to humanity/society, so the victims unfortunately don't matter to them.

They are mentally stuck back at that time and want to give up on life, so they choose evil instead of choosing to see that there could be a better future ahead for themselves. An abusive "If I can't be happy, neither will these people" way out.

I just do not understand as a motive for mass murder: "I was bullied, so I need to go shoot some other people who had nothing to do with that bullying"
That's not revenge if you harm people who didn't wrong you. Perhaps he was suicidal and wanted to die in infamy or he somehow blamed the teachers / the school for bullying. He reportedly shot up his old classroom on the third floor plus another classroom. Maybe it was a power trip to him.
