<modsnip> this one is closed for the day. Is this the State or county that only has court on even numbered days, only for a total of three hours per day, closed on Fridays and try to make it to court around twoish in the afternoon?

Tell me it ain't JA's judge presiding? That judge had me grinding my teeth. I started humming the beers on the wall ditty every time she didn't want to give an opinion in open court and would suggest a SIDEBAR. I was up to 104 sidebarring beers on the walls before I collapsed... and needed a double.

:floorlaugh: Mon thru Thursday, 10:30-12:00 and 1:30- 4:00 ish, different judge (Steinle), different court building, and haven't heard a sidebar yet, but missed the opening statements. Judge seems pretty on top of things, but for some reason, I have flashbacks of the defendant going all "Arias" on us:scared:

It's in the same "area", but I think it's a different building (Central Court Building Suite: 13A )

Right, I found the court buildings in Phoenix confusing when I was considering going out to the JA trial last year.

Croakerqueen123 and TheTawniDilly have Youtube vids up for the first day/openings/3 witnesses.

Great! Thanks for alerting. I need to go play catch up.

The prosecution only scheduled 3 witnesses today because there was a miscalculation in the opening statements. They were much shorter than they anticipated and things moved along at a smoother pace. Judge ordered more witnesses should be put on standby because the jury is sequestered. I believe that is what he said.

  • #107
Will have to do a follow up on the sequestration........I don't think they are *Arizona* and the Judge said something about beating the Phoenix traffic when he excused them earlier than the usual time.

Checking out the background of this case, lots of interesting characters and the usual "defense throws everything at the wall to see what sticks".

Definitely going to tune in Monday morning!

Jury not sequestered.
In the Michael Dunn trial in Florida that also began today, the jury IS sequestered.

Very short re-cap of this morning's opening statements: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNdKX8uNwbE

....and after watching the prosecutor's OS, why did Travis Tatro, the "bouncer" and unwilling "hitman", know Marissa only as "Breeze"? :hearno:

....and what is this "secret" the defense alluded to?

...and why would wealthy Mr. Flores give $300K in unsecured loans to DeVault, share a bank account, and just what kind of relationship was it?

Why didn't any of the 3 children wake up during this "rape", "struggle". "assault", or whatever particular story the defense is playing?

*I think Stanley Cook was supposed to be the fall guy*

What in the heck did DeVault do with $300K? Gambling? or ?

I just looked at my last post........."Arias" is all over it

I am so glad you posted that video. Good, concise info.

Is this the same courthouse JA was tried in?

yes, basically. There is an old courthouse and a newer courthouse with an even newer addition right across the street. These two cases are in the newer and brand new courthouse, but (other than the old courthouse across the street) it's all connected via corridors, etc. over a city block'ish area.

Defendant, Marissa DeVault

Arrghh! Not the glasses factor again! :floorlaugh: Of course it happened before the Arias trial, but honestly, isn't this a little transparent? Maybe defense attorneys are banking on the fact that it's not transparent to a jury. :scared:

ETA: Why does the understated make-up/glasses look seem to be a favorite with the defense?

The gang's (almost) all here from the Arias trial--which isn't over yet. HI, everybody! :seeya: :floorlaugh:

Honestly, though, our takes on this one should be interesting.:seeya:

Bernina, I think that her nickname is Reese (or something like it), judging from an AZ article I read recently. Ma-rees-a? I dunno.

I cannot hazard a guess regarding your other questions, especially how someone could spend three hundred grand so fast.

Photo for reference, as a possibility of a case of the incredible shrinking defendant, as the trial continues.
(chair lowered to make them seem tiny and helpless)

Hmmmm, Tiger, it's dejarias vu all over again. Poor
tiny defendant...

  • #118
Hey, glad to see all of you, kinda like deja vu? Another trial in Az, domestic violence, etc., etc?

But no Juan...........:tantrum:

Could be interesting though, looks like the defense will be pulling out the old trick bag, wonder if DeFault, er, DeVault is going to testify?

Yeah, it's sad...
No Juan to help us
No Juan to lean forward
No Juan to scare witnesses
No Juan to cheer
No Juan give that "look"
No Juan to keep us alert

We got no Juan to love

Uh I fell asleep just after the afternoon break started. Did I miss much?

Do we think marissa will take the stand? You can bet if she does it won't be half the performance that jodi put on although I am sure when they were cellmates she was giving her 'tips'
