So is that what the deal is with the confetti being in some places and not others, the taser misfired? I'm a little lost on this area.

Wow. Just wow. I hope we can see video of this afternoon. I miss "This Juan is on Fire". He must get so annoyed with all the lying and gamesmanship that goes on in trials. I was reading on a site where other cops blog, and most of them said "Somebody's lying".

What a day this has been, I think Juan scored some big points on cross for sure!

If you are going to follow the Hayes trial from NC, I suggest you go over and look at Mr Hayes photo from today. He is smiling and winking at someone in the courtroom while jury selection is taking place.

Yes which is why Virgillo deployed his. IIRC, RC only had one prong (?) hit DR. I don't know anything about tasers though.

I am reading about tasers. Tasers have to be replaced every five years and have routine spark tests once a week. There seems to be problems with the battery life, errant dart fire, misfire, Power on/off randomly which is why they need to be spark tested once a week.

Jewels53 and geevee...thanks for all of your hard work!! I'm curious as to what Chrisman perceived that the victim did to warrant in his mind such anger and such a response.

Yes that would be a good thing to know. If Chrisman testify's I am going to wonder if he is telling the truth. I don't think the prior testimony leads me to believe he was any real danger. The 911 cal was a non-emergent one. I think that is just like what was in the Zimmerman trial.

I guess we need to see the rest of the testimony and see what the jury decides.

I know this sure is a strange way to follow a trial.

I was curious about Officer Involved Shooting statistics by city and by state so I started googling. I was shocked to find out that the FBI keeps statistics on crimes throughout the US but NOT Officer Involved Shootings. One man started in 2005 doing it on his own.

California had the most; Delaware had the least with 0 in 2011. Phoenix ranked 6th in 2011. The statistics were not per capita.

This would be a fascinating socioeconomic/criminal justice research project for someone pursuing their Masters or Doctorate. Maybe it has been done and I have not found it yet.

To not police the police is a sign of complacency IMO. When I worked as a RN, my gosh, we were policed. IMO, most of the police officers I know are incredibly professional and good, honest, hard working people. I would like to think that those we entrust with the safety and welfare of our fellow citizens are not dishonest, rash thinkers nor quick to anger. JMV

Zuri, I just tried to do a search and it is hard to come up with anything relating to reliable statistics. I did come across an interesting article though.

Shootings Raise Officer Training Questions

By Julia Campbell and Tom Foreman
In late August, a police officer shot and killed a man after he mistook the man’s cigarette lighter for a gun. That same week in Detroit, a deaf and mute man wielding a garden rake was shot and killed by an officer.

A Detroit police officer was charged with manslaughter Wednesday in that city’s slaying, and an investigation is under way in the other.

Wow, interesting Zuri. Unfortunately, I think there will always be a few of these types of cases, at least for some years to come. The best thing is for police departments to emphasize their training on these matters, and to bring light to the cases so that they can be avoided in the future. Also to have a diverse force. I'm sure there are many other things most departments are doing to help avoid situations like this.
