Found Safe AZ - Donald Pesterfield, 82, Mesa, 24 Dec 2017

PHOENIX — A Silver Alert was issued for Donald Pesterfield late Sunday by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Pesterfield was last seen on Saturday around 6:30 p.m. when he dropped off his wife at the Mesa Gateway Airport. He called his wife and told her he was lost and hasn’t been heard from or seen since.

Pesterfield is driving a dark grey 2007 Chevy Silverado four-door truck with a tan cover and Oregon license plate 764CTG. He is not answering his phone and it last pinged in the area of Bishop, Calif. around 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

In the early stages of Alzheimers, Pesterfield has a heart that goes into AFIB and he does not have his medication with him.

He is bald with some grey hair. He was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt, shorts and a blue baseball cap.

His family is very concerned for his welfare.

This is frightening. Why is he driving if he has early stages Alzheimer’s?! Where did he sleep Saturday night?

My grandpa disappeared one day and when he finally came back the next day, he said he forgot where he was. We were frantic. When we saw how many miles were on his car we were even more upset. We finally realized he had driven from Orange County CA to Las Vegas and back. Needless to say, his keys were taken away that day. It was too dangerous.

I wish families would take keys away at the FIRST signs of dementia. As a nurse, I've dealt with several cases of loved ones driving with dementia- it never ends well. In one case, it cost an innocent nurse on her way home from work her life.

We took my dad's early on. He was mad- but it had to be done.

Thats quite a trip for someone with Alzheimers and a heart issue! Does he know someone in Bishop, CA? Is there anything he might be interested in? An event or something? Or did he end up there because he was lost and on the wrong highway? I hope he wasn't carjacked

It looks like Bishop is right on Hwy 10, so he wouldn't have even had to leave the interstate except for gas. Hwy 10 is a main freeway in and out of Phoenix.

I agree 100%! I wish they would have taken away my grandpa’s keys sooner, but it wasn’t my decision. I was kind of pissed off that it took him taking a road trip to Vegas for my parents to do anything.

I will be at the Vegas airport- the only place I have EVER won $$ in that town. I was cleaning out my purse, and dropped my change into a slot machine. Won $30!
