I cannot believe I have not heard of this case before now but I just have read every post here. As someone who is trained in childcare and child psychology and someone who has lost a child, I am unbelievably disgusted at these monsters and what they have put these kids trough. Oh my g*od. Words fail me right now. I wonder though why the child who is now 18 wants to see her hum? Maybe for answers who knows.... Has there a trial date been set???

God bless them. These people are lower than scum, pure evil monsters.

I can find no updates on this case. I still think of these young ladies and hope they are in a much better, happier and more loving home.

"Allegations in the new child abuse charges include unreasonable confinement, emotional damage and being struck with a spoon and a stick, the County Attorney's Office said in a statement. A grand jury indicted the couple on Jan. 15 but the indictments were not made public until Friday."

Sophia Richter took the witness stand Tuesday as her trial draws to a close. She is standing trial with her husband, Fernando, on charges including child abuse, kidnapping and domestic violence. Closing arguments were pushed back to Wednesday.

Sophia Richter says the girls ate well, including lots of fruit, and they were allowed to leave their rooms.

A jury convicted an Arizona couple of kidnapping and child abuse on Friday after a trial in which their three daughters described being beaten and held in prison-like conditions, deprived of sleep and subjected to bizarre rituals.

The girls' mother, Sophia Richter, 34, and stepfather Fernando Richter, 36, could face decades in prison after being found guilty at the Pima County Superior Court in Tucson.

They were both convicted of three kidnapping counts that carry a sentence of up to 12-1/2 years in prison, two of which must be served consecutively because the victims were under 15. No date was set for sentencing.

From last month:

http://www.trivalleycentral.com/cas...cle_85edbd84-9dc0-11e5-a906-2f219b591c33.html

Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles is moving forward with local charges against Sophia and Fernando Richter, who were convicted Friday on three counts of kidnapping and three counts of child abuse each in the case of Sophia Richter’s daughters...

A jury found that the couple locked up the three sisters for nearly two years. Most of that time was spent in a Pinal County house just north of Catalina, though the family moved to Tucson about four months before the girls escaped...

During the course of the investigation by Tucson police officers, authorities also alleged that sexual abuse occurred at the Pinal County home. It was unclear whether sexual abuse was discussed during the Tucson trial.

The Pinal County Attorney’s Office still plans to prosecute a couple for abusing their own children despite the lengthy prison terms they received after being convicted of similar charges in Pima County...

Earlier this month, Fernando Richter was sentenced to 58 years in prison while Sophia Richter received a 20-year prison term. Both were credited with the 835 days they were in jail awaiting trial. This is basically a life sentence for Fernando Richter, who will be 92 when he is eligible to be released.

New trial likely for Tucson woman whose child abuse conviction was overturned

Pima County prosecutors are prepared to retry a Tucson woman whose conviction on child abuse charges was overturned by the Arizona Supreme Court.

Deputy Pima County Attorney Alan Goodwin acknowledged that the high court said Sophia Richter was denied the right at her first trial to claim she acted "under duress'' when she played a role in abusing her three children. That included locking them in the house for months at a time and feeding them what one of the girls said was spoiled food.

Based on that conclusion, the justices overturned her conviction and the 20-year prison term.

Sophia Richter pleaded guilty and was sentenced ten years probation, seven years on the kidnapping charges, and ten on the child abuse charges.

Tucson mother accused of imprisoning her children sentenced

A jury found stepfather Fernando Richter and mother Sophia guilty of child abuse in 2016, finding that they kept Sophia's three daughters imprisoned for years. They were tried together and Fernando Richter was sentenced to 58 years in prison, with Sophia Richter receiving a 20-year sentence. A judge eventually tossed out Sophia Richter's conviction.

In October, a judge reduced bail for Sophia Richter after all three of her daughters testified on behalf of her.
