So attempting to put some of this story together, can anyone tell me if I've got this correct?

On Dec 8th, LM and EJ break up and she takes the baby and tells him he will never see the baby again. LM applies legally for a custody hearing which is scheduled for Dec 28th. EJ gets in contact with TPS about adoption of Gabriel. EJ met TPS 8 months ago (before or after Gabriel's birth?) and has talked to LM of putting Gabriel up for adoption as early as 3 weeks after his birth. Sometime in Dec TPS contacts LM about signing adoption papers and he refuses. Dec 18th EJ takes off on her "trip". Dec 27th she calls and texts LM that the baby is dead. Dec 29th and 30th, EJ deliberately updates and logs into Myspace. Dec 31st, one day after her arrest, TPS leaves her a message on Myspace most likely as if she doesn't know what is going on.

My take on this is that TPS is unstable, has money, and has been grooming EJ about adopting the baby from day one. I'm sure she's brainwashed EJ into believing that this is the best thing for Gabriel and has offered up a good sum of money as well for EJ to "start a new life". I believe TPS is behind this, financed the trip to Texas and Florida, and knows where the baby is, most likely someone related to her picked him up in Texas. MOO

The Smiths told CBS5 they are confident little Gabriel is alive. They were in contact with Elizabeth Johnson up until she was arrested, and they could hear Gabriel through the phone in the background.

"I heard the baby babble... I heard the baby cry, " Smith said.

They even received text messaged disputing the threats Elizabeth made about hurting Gabriel.

"Immediately after she sent him the text that said she killed the baby, she sent us a text saying that she did that to get back at the father and that the baby was fine," said Jack Smith.

The Smiths spent significant time getting to know Gabriel and have several pictures with the boy in their home, playing with their own four-year-old daughter.

They say they didn't involve the father, Logan McQueary in the adoption procedures because Elizabeth Johnson told them he was abusive.

"As soon as she got away from Logan and we had the baby, and he was not a part of her life, all of the sudden she had a bright cheery attitude about herself," said Tammi Smith.

But at an emotional press conference Monday, McQueary told CBS5 that after Gabriel disappeared, the Smiths tried to strong-arm him into giving up his child.

"When Gabriel disappeared, they said to me basically if you really care about your son and you want him back and you want Elizabeth to bring him back, than you'll sign the paperwork and she'll bring him back," said Logan McQueary.

The Smiths said they were only passing along the messages they were getting from Elizabeth. They also say they are cooperating fully with the investigation and no longer believe the adoption is possible.

"Now the father is so deeply into this that his ego would never allow him to sign papers," said Smith

But they still may have a role to play. The Smiths believe Elizabeth Johnson will tell them Gabriel's location Tuesday.

"She wants to talk to me tomorrow at 2 o'clock to see if I will help her with attorneys to gain custody of Gabriel. If she hurt the baby, I don't think she would be trying to get custody," Tammi Smith said.

I nominate this case for having characters equally crazy to the Caylee Anthony case.

God protect the precious babies from all of them.

I don't think she's an aunt. She met Eliz in an airport a few months ago.

If the father had visiation rights and the mother took the child and prevented visiation, even before the hearing in which cusotdy was switched, the child could have been considered abducted because the dad had custodial rights of some sort.

They had joint custody. I think that's part of it.

Any recounting of this story is accurate only as of the minute of posting. Everybody involved seems to have a different story, and they change at the drop of a hat.

What a rollercoaster! It's like a really, really, really bad soap opera.

And meanwhile this precious baby is missing and we don't even know if he's okay (okay physically - this has to affect him negatively emotionally along with everything else the poor little thing has been through in his short life.)

This is ridiculous. Lock her up, no visitors, no calls, no bean dip until she freaking tells. How hard is that? She'll break, she's still a princess.

Sounds like a lot of backtracking going on here now that the jig is up. They probably wanted LE to believe that the baby was dead and that EJ had left the country so that they'd stop looking for Gabriel alive. That car may even have been abandoned in Mexico to make LE think EJ was hiding out there.

Now they have to figure out a way to produce a live Gabriel without LE charging them. No surprise that they'll be helping EJ with lawyers and such. This whole charade (and I pray that it is one) is going to cost them a few bucks before it's over. MOO

Tempe police Sgt. Steve Carbajal said Johnson left Arizona with her son, Gabriel, on December 18.

"Everybody knew where she was and that was OK," Carbajal said. "She just wanted to get away for a while and then these series of events happened where it was a concern for the father that she would not show up for a hearing. His fears were confirmed."

McQueary was awarded sole custody of the infant when Elizabeth did not show up in court December 28.

"She wanted me out of the house and we talked and split up," said McQueary. "I gave him a kiss and put him in his bed, and that was the last time I saw him."

In a press conference Monday, McQueary said he received text messages from Gabriel's mother saying she had killed the child.

"She basically said, 'there's no way in Hell you're ever seeing your son again,'" he said.

"Is she saying these things to hurt the father or would she actually hurt her own baby?" said Carbajal. "We don't know yet. We're hoping the baby is in good condition and will be returned safely."

Yeah...sounds right...however, no matter who "groomed" this mother, let's not let her off the hook so easily..

I think she is an unfit and unstable...I feel that this sweet baby should have been taken off her right from the start...

I pray he is ok, that she did give him up for adoption....maybe a miracle like Shannon, the baby in the box...but even if there is a "miracle" let's not let the birth mother off the hook

I for one am sick of hearing about people who commit crimes when they are "mentally ill" or "had a bad childhood" or "postpartum depression" or whatever whatever....boo hoo hoo...

if you have problems...get help, take your meds...a lot of people have problems and live good lives

I would like to see the excuses stop...no "real" mother would give up their baby like this, for money, to play games, just got "sick" of them...no person would be "powerful" enough to make them do that....these are women who should not have had a kid in the first place IMHO ...and should have no more kids and have their kids taken from them if hopefully still alive

I also feel that social services have gone too far to "keep the family together"..."give them a chance"...this is not working

sad to say a lot of the "cases" we see on these boards the poor kids are "known" to the state workers, or the family is known to the state

So plan B is for them to try to help EJ get full custody so they can adopt ( or rather "buy" IMO) Gabriel from her then? And they'll drag LM's name through the mud in the process? Why didn't they just try to do that in the first place? :waitasec: MOO

This TS seems like a real piece of work. She meets a single mother (or quite possibly a very pregnant single woman) in an airport and inserts herself into this girl's life by calling herself an "aunt"? Within 8 months of meeting her? And offers to adopt her baby? Where is EJ's real family? Her parents, real aunts and uncles? I'm sure there's a story there too since her myspace says she's from "nowhere".

But no matter what her back story is and no matter what "brainwashing" she may have been put through by TS, I'm not trying to give EJ a pass. She's an adult...and she knows better. She should be charged appropriately for whatever her role is in this.

And LE would be wise to keep TS far away from her if possible if they want the real truth to possibly come out here. But I suppose they just want them all to turn up a healthy and very much alive Gabriel.

Exactly, NMK. She said she didn't want him with foster parents, but she had no problems tossing him over to a woman she met in an airport and didn't even know. Doesn't hold water. Mom is a just a spiteful b***h with an out of control violent anger problem who doesn't want her baby - but wants to use him as a pawn. That just doesn't wash.
