But I mean if I was a young girl on the run, spewing lies about being beaten by boyfriend and with a baby also being abused by Daddy then how would I find such a safehouse as EJ did? How did she get hooked up and who did the hooking? My best guess is TPS. But again, how the h3ll did she find the hook up?

By running around and telling everyone she meets that her bf beats her, or threw her and the baby out of the house...or insert whatever excuse. Run that through the shelters, cry hard, maybe even duck into a few churches...(for true underground, the churches can usually set you up.)
She might have stumbled on one by accident that way or it was set up by TPS.
Between her baby hoarding and missionary work, it wouldn't surprise me much to find out she was involved with some type of underground women's or children's group.

It does sound like these underground orgs have sales people bringing in business, so to speak. Predators and leaches are what they are.

If you watch the good morning america segment, TPS says that the extortion type comments were made in reference to what EJ said.
That if Logan signed the papers, she would come home with Gabriel and then she would sign.
The Smiths allegedly tried to make it clear that this would only be to get Gabriel back, as if it was done under duress, it isn't legally binding.

She still isn't right. Did anyone notice her running off at the mouth, and having to ask the reporter what the question was? She's in her own world.

It also, by TPS's statements, was not a guardianship as she earlier said, just babysitting for a few days.

~sigh.

What?!? Where were these papers that LM had to sign to get his baby back? Did TPS just happen to have them with her even though EJ was travelling across the country at the time?

And she's now claiming she was babysitting but had some kind of "guardianship" papers in her posessesion when she was BABYSITTING to show to a detective who was checking the situation out? How many people sign over guardianship to your babysitters? How many babysitters require this for you to leave your child with them for maybe a week when you go on vacation or out of town for business? This is truly unbelievable.

IF she did hand the baby off to someone why have they not come foward?
Everybody is trying to locate this child.

Because the giving and the receiving are both illegal.

I could tell the Smiths were toned down a bit in this interview, no allegations of the dad being abusive. I did pick up on the part where Tammi tries to explain the message she gave to Logan, "sign the papers and she will bring him back". It really doesn't matter if she got the message from EJ and was just the messenger. You just don't send messages like that, it's criminal. She is trying to distance herself, IMO. Too late.

And literally life saving for the people that truly enter an underground program because they need it.

ETA: I don't believe for one minute that there was any underground organization. Unless it was some sort of really creepy underground, smuggle-your-stolen-baby-across-the-country-after-giving-you-the-worst-cover-story-ever group.

But I really hate this woman for what she is doing to the public perception of true underground rescue.

Good Morning America Video

Interview with the Smiths
at 4:30

This is a long video

Thanks BeanE for posting this link.
I just got done watching and am about to watch it again. My first impression of TS and JS was JS seemed very fidgety (sp?). I know when people are guilty or at least know more than they are saying often fidget.

Did anyone else notice that? What are your opinions about it? Am I reading too much into it?

Exactly. Maybe it's time to drop him off anonomously in the stealth of night on the steps of the local sherriffs office.

The Smith's have already lost the horse race, So why not tell LE what they know?

If they know where Gabe is WHY not tell the police and stop this whole mess.

I still think this is a phantom couple we are dealing with.

It sure does sound like she's claiming to be just a babysitter and backpeddling on paper claims that were probably illegal to begin with. Too late. That horse left that barn a long time ago.

Maybe the idea of this whole thing is based on the underground concept, no one really knowing where the next drop off point is.
Maybe EJ and TPS really don't know anymore where he is. TPS set it up, EJ handed him over, and the "couple" disappeared with him until whoever decides it's safe for him to resurface...

I still have a horrible feeling this will end in a dead baby. Even if he isn't yet.

Why was a detective at their home when Gabriel was handed over for "babysitting"??

Yes, Jack seemed very uncomfortable to me. I thought either he is camera shy or he is not comfortable with the subject matter at all. He is the one who stated at first the situation with EJ felt strange to him. I think he's been pulled into this whole thing by his overeager to have a baby wife.

Exactly. IMO, the detective was probably there over a custodial dispute. I bet the papers shown to the detective had dad's signatire and who knows what else forged.

ITA. If they had Gabe hidden somewhere, then why not stop the whole thing, come clean and try to minimize their "guilt" in the whole deal by saying what they have been saying: "We thought the father was abusive, we agreed to give Gabe a better home, etc."

Unless, as you said iluvmua, either Gabe went to another couple entirely, or what if someone else is holding Gabe for the Smiths right now? But if so, wouldn't THOSE people be afraid and come forward?

I'm guessing it was just a friend of the Smiths they had there to make an impression on EJ how "legal" this was. Kind of an intimidation factor. MOO!

He did look uncomfortable. Very stiff. She looked like she was enjoying the interview way to much. She was smiling an awful lot which leads me to believe she knows where he is. If she was attached to the baby, she would be sick with worry as well. She knows.

they are throwing the detective thing in there to lend credibility to their impossible tale!

exactly! Where is the concern and the fear that we SHOULD see? We don't see it from the mother and we don't see it from Smith. Laughing and giggling and her flippant attitude ring bells.

We see it CLEARLY from the birthfather. (ETA: I saw fear, tears, worry, etc in his GMA interview)

O/T we are about to get ANOTHER snowstorm in Kansas!
