I know people have different personalities and not all people are Type A like myself, BUT I would give ONE pissed off yet controlled interview (because I know its necessary) to tell the media that I did NOT have anything to do with my daughter's disappearance and that I (or my family) did NOT kill her and do not know who did... and then I would tell the media I would NOT ever answer that question again. If someone did ask me, i would tell them to refer to THAT interview and then move on to the next reporter....
Could you imagine having to explain over and over again that you didn't kill your child? I can't imagine an innocent person staying so calm when the question was asked over and over again. But, that's just me and the personalities I'm used to being around.

If you have a land-line phone, all phone calls can be forwarded to a cell phone. There is no reason for anyone to sit around waiting for a phone call AS long as they have a cell phone.

This is 2012, not 1950's when we sat and waited and waited, and waited until answering machines were invented. :)

Remember the family discussing how difficult it was for them to be in the house because "everything is Isabel." With hope for her return, wouldn't that be comforting?

But yet another red flag went down, IMO, when Sergio inserted the tidbit: "but we check our phone messages" (referring to the home phone line). Wow! They would leave their phone line unmanned while their daughter is missing and supposedly abducted? That's just crazy.

I thought that someone from LE would be monitoring incoming calls if their land line is often used.

That's not what Sergio said.

I think I am going to watch or try to find interviews from other parents in a similar situation as this. Just for comparison.

Did Sergio clearly state "checking his land line phone?"

They have only been interviewed by the media twice, right??? No doubt LE has asked this question of them, maybe numerous times, but the media has only been able to interview them two times. Wouldn't any parent want the world to know that there is a kidnapper on the loose, please look for my child everywhere. I would be very vocal that I had NOTHING to do with my child being missing (and I am a very shy and timid woman) but for my child I would whatever it would take.

I do kind of understand where she is coming from, if she goes back to work, back to the normal daily routine without Isa being back home, she will feel like she has given up hope or given up on finding her and bringing her back home.

I understand that and really kind of expect it, it will take time to recover emotionally and right now she's wanting to focus on bringing Isabel home and not in whatever she does at her job. It was not the returning to work part, just the phone calls part that I found strange.

Why bring up the ability to promptly answer phone calls as the reason to stay off work if in reality you're not answering your phone?

Anyway, imo it settles the ransom issue. It sounds like they're not waiting for the phone to ring so that the abductors can give their ransom demands.

I think it's part personality, part shock. They seem, IMO to be shocked and overwhelmed by everything that is going on. It's clear in their interviews that they are still tryng to process "Why" this happened or "How" this happened. Why Isa? They are questioning themselves "What did we do to make Isa a target?"

IMO, questioning yourself as to what you could have done or how you could have prevented her from becoming a target is an appropriate response.

I agree. I would do the same. I like to think that I would be understanding of LE's need to investigate me and that I'd cooperate with them and facilitate them in that without being rude, impatient, grudging, bitter, etc. But the media would be, I think, a different matter. ETA, I very much agree with posts 740&742 from Katydid and Donjeta.

The phone thing was odd to me because Becky said that she doesn't want to go to work because she feels like she's giving up on Isabel, that she needs to be home ready to answer the detectives' phone calls.

But then (Sergio?) said that most of the time they don't answer their phone, they just check their messages.

*shrug*
I do understand that she may not feel up to returning to work yet but the two answers combined make no sense. If it was so important to get all the police calls straight away you'd think she'd answer the phone. She could check her messages after returning to her work just as easily.

I don't know where she works but presumably the detectives could call her there on her office phone or her cell phone if it was something urgent.

Maybe they're just screening their calls, or they may check voicemails as they come in. I know many people who do that, just don't answer the phone if they don't want to be bothered. I can imagine the calls that come in during a situation like this, many of them from reporters. I don't blame them at all for not answering the phone every time it rings.

Hi! What about drainage ditches, gutters or storm runoffs? I know Tucson doesn't get a lot of rain, but where does the water flow? An arroyo? Have you had any rain lately? Thanks.

I have heard that they were searching the washes. I certainly hope they have. The washes sometimes go under quite long tunnels, there is one such tunnel very close to the Celis house that goes under Craycroft, cuts across the northeast corner of the Williams Centre (still underground) goes under Broadway and finally just north of the Target on Broadway. Its at least a quarter of a mile underground, quite possibly longer. I used to bike that wash as a kid, you can see the entrance to the tunnel just to the southwest of the apartment complex immediately to the south of the church...

Watch any of the Diena Thompson interviews with regards to her daugher Somer Thompson. Diena was in everyone's face for her daughter.

Search where? Where do you start looking when she could be anywhere? I believe they're drilling down into forensics and other evidence, thus the lack of physical searches. The sense of urgency to find Isabel alive is gone.
sbm

Kyron could be anywhere... why search?
They searched relentlessly for Kyron.

Just because a missing child "could be anywhere" doesn't mean you don't search.
That's like saying "we will just wait till the perp tells us where she is... otherwise it's too much work."

It is important to note that although the family did give their first interview to NBC, there was no "exclusive video."

KGUN9 News has confirmed, however, that NBC News has been paying for the Celis family to stay at the hotel.

During the press conference, the Celis's denied that they were directly compensated for Thursday's exclusive appearance on The Today Show or for the exclusive video of Isabel that they provided to NBC.

The family released that same video to Tucson media later Thursday.

At two weeks since Isabel went missing I seriously doubt ransom demands beginning now. Therefore the only need to have a phone nearby would be updates from LE. Unfortunately since both parents are in the medical field that may not be possible at all times.

Okay he does there but why wouldnt that be his answer the first time he was asked that question? Also when he does say it there, he kinda laughs with it, then says that is the best answer I can come up with. Why does he need to come up with an answer, it just kinda makes it sound to me like he had to think of a appropriate answer that people would be okay with. Becky seems 100% sincere in her belief that she nor Sergio has anything to do with it or anything to hide. I think she could be mistaken on whether he does or not.

Then when they are asked, what would you say if Isa could hear you. I don't know but I think it is just how Sergio seems to always make his voice crack when he thinks it is an appropriate thing to do.

IIRC, he was asked what he would have to say to people who think he is responsible for Isa's disappearance. He said all he could tell them was, 'you're wrong'. I fail to see why that is such an odd answer, or why it's odd that it's the only thing he could come up with so quickly. The man's daughter was taken, he's distraught. And how on earth can one make their voice crack? That would be a neat trick to use on my hubby if I could learn to do that.

Can't we just accept that their emotions are real? They're going through the worst nightmare a parent can face. Just for the sake of a little human compassion, let's try to put aside the nit-picking and focus on finding this little girl.

Seems like the family must know about Marc K. since the brother of Mom was on NG...wonder if they have asked his group to contact LE to see about helping out in some way?

Of course, there is always prayer...:(

If Isa's abductor targeted her because he wanted a child of his own, he would likely choose a child whose nationality is the same as his so he can make it appear as if she is his biological child.

Isa would believe him if he told her he is a distant uncle she's never met before.

If he intends to raise Isa and be a good father to her, then there is a good chance she is alive and hasn't been molested or sexually assaulted by him.

I happened to have to run an errand at the hospital Becky works at yesterday, there are fliers for zumba classes which the money to do the classes will be donated to Becky and Sergio directly, according to the fliers. There will be, if I remember correctly from the flier, 3 or 4 classes a week, with a donation of atleast $5.00 to participate. Not that this has anything to do with anything, just throwing it out there.

There were fliers of Isa all over the hospital, a few on each door, fliers on windows. I seen and should have grabbed a copy of the donation, fundraiser fliers I seen for the family. The TMC crew is definitely helping the family out all they can.

I'm glad to know that TMC is spreading the word about Isabel and offering the Zumba classes to raise money. I hope the money is going towards to efforts to locate the little girl. The parents specifically mentioned that they are not receiving any of the monies and that the donations are put right back into the "find Isabel" fund. :moo:
