Either I missed it when I first saw/posted the article, or it's since been updated to include that 'They said the individual had access to their home and might know of others who entered it.'
http://www.kgun9.com/news/local/221239821.html

I've always thought that JM had some knowledge regarding Isabel's disappearance - not that he actually abducted her but that he has information about who was involved and a possible motive. He lived in the home and probably knew the family's comings and goings, who they entertained in their home, who they socialized with outside the home, etc. It would be difficult to be a boarder and not know what went on in the household. JM made a hasty departure from Tucson following Isabel's disappearance. This doesn't necessarily indicate direct involvement but speaks to possible knowledge or information about what happened. :moo:

Gosh it's been so long since any news on this case that I've forgotten some of the basic facts. :( So just to clarify, JM was the younger/youngish? Extended fam member who had ties (or lived/lives) in FL, correct?

Yes, that would be the individual. Also some reference in long-ago threads to possible (CPS?) issues with him living in the Celis home and several drug/DUI charges. He headed back to FL at least a year ago, I believe.

They are saying on HLN that the family believes someone in the family knows something and want then to just talk to the police.

It just all sounds so casual...:dunno:

I wonder how long Becky and Sergio have entertained the notion that a certain relative has information about Isa's disappearance? Have they shared their thoughts with TPD or only with their PI? I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a bit skeptical about why this is coming out 16 months after Isabel went missing.

It makes me think they have had some sort of falling out recently with the relative in question. And the local news may have been doing some follow up pieces since it's Isabel's birthday so the parents decided to come out publicly with these statements. Sounds like more deflection of blame on their part, though.

I wonder if its a case of having a suspicion, but no proof, as is often the case in disappearances where there isn't a body. If they suspect he knows something, they might have been afraid to speak about it before now, out of fear of antagonizing him/driving him away (not necessarily in a physical sense, but in a communicative sense, and thus not be able to keep tabs on him).

Some of us seem to be on the same page in thinking that Becky and Sergio are talking about JM, but maybe that's not the case. Wasn't JM interviewed by TPD early in the case? If so, maybe he told them all he knew at the time. I don't recall that JM hired an attorney, but I suppose that could have happened in recent months when I haven't followed discussion here closely. :moo:

I actually wonder if this is all just more smoke 'n mirrors to deflect suspicion. I don't even know if there are FT detectives still assigned to the case (but may be after this article). Not sure we'd ever know who hired a lawyer... unless there were charges brought.

Interesting recent statement from the mother... 'it's just taking longer than i hoped' caught my interest because I had just been thinking about the 'drug money' connection and maybe they are paying off a debt while the child is held. Then I heard her say that, and it confirmed what I was thinking. It reminded me of the Haleigh Cummings case, Misty Croslin made a similar claim, that the child was taken as a debt collection. Made me wonder how often that actually happens. Surprisingly it does, and in major US cities. " In 2007, the Daily American said only a few cases of drug dealers abducting kids are reported each year. But the paper noted that police think the true numbers are higher, with some kidnappings not reported due to fears of drawing attention to the parents' illegal drug activity." http://voices.yahoo.com/missing-iowa-girls-possibly-latest-drug-dealer-11623436.html

Both Becky and Sergio have always expressed themselves in a nonchalant, matter-of-fact manner that is perplexing and confusing without knowing them personally. There hasn't been a sense of urgency to find Isabel - then or now.

Jane Velez-Mitchell is covering this on HLN now. There was just a clip of Becky during which she said, "I know that (Isa) is out there somewhere... It's just taking longer than I thought." :moo: This sounds like Becky is sure that Isabel will eventually come home, but Mom isn't quite sure when it will be. Odd.

<snipped> I just posted the same quote and thought that it was totally strange

Exactly!

I get the feeling that they know she's ok. May not know exactly where she is, but they may have talked to her on the phone. Follow the money... is the family making large payments? I hope LE is keeping a sharp eye on them.

There have been three effective 'working' theories around town about this case since the git-go.
1) taken in lieu of payment/debt indirectly pertaining to the parents
2) hurt, accidentally or otherwise, in the home and taken elsewhere to mend/hide the act
3) accidentally or otherwise killed in the home and dumped

A fourth floated for a bit initially about being carted away to Texas, IIRC, in a spurned lover scenario.

1 and 2, even 4 if legit, would have a money trail of some sort most likely. Unless whoever had her hadn't a care in the world financially -- or whomever has since killed her. :-( From what I understand, the finances have been (and may still be) under scrutiny, so I can't really see there being a trail there.

I find the parents shady as shady as shady comes, and the cousin ever shadier. I also have serious question marks in my brain re: the courts' (both Pima and Cochise) treatment of the cousin and a potential familial connection between a high-ranking LEO here in Tucson and Mom's family in Douglas. Although I cannot nail that one down. So aggravating. Such a beautiful little girl.

IDK where they are plastering flyers. I haven't seen a 'new' flyer in at least 6 months or longer, and most of the 'old' flyers are long gone.

Is this JV-M talking head a drunk? No offense, but her program that aired earlier re: Isabel is really disturbing in terms of her "on air presence"... Ackkkk! Not to mention it was cut short (mid-Klaas statement). Maybe I'm just cranky. I never watch these shows, and I think I now remember why.

And yes... IMO.

From the beginning, Becky and Sergio have made Isa's disappearance sound like she's on an extended trip to Disneyland so they're not particularly worried about her care or safety. In one interview, they alluded to Isabel having walked off somewhere and that she would eventually come back home! I remember thinking that they made it sound as if their daughter was a puppy who would find his way back home when he got tired, hungry, and thirsty  Bizarre.

Not sure what I think about parents saying a family member has info. I really hope that they told LE this info a long time ago and are just now talking about it publicly because they felt LE didn't follow up on it. I am happy that Isa is getting some much needed attention from media now.

I wish parents or LE would release the results of the lie detector test that parents took in the beginning. IMO the only time lie detector test results aren't released are when people fail them. Otherwise the person that took thee test and/or LE come out and share the results. For example in Adrienne Salinas case in Tempe LE came out very quickly to say that her boyfriend passed 3 lie detector tests and is not a person of interest. So I feel like one or both or the parents didn't pass.
