People, put your kids in BRIGHT colors when camping!!

Amen. We have been camping regularly [several times a year if the weather is good] since we married--- camped pregnant, with infants, toddlers and now little boys. This is important information for everyone to know!!

"The search for missing 5 year old Jerold is still active and ongoing with ground and air resources. There is limited radio/phone communication in the area and we are working on that as well. There has been an outpouring of offers from people throughout Arizona and nearby communities offering to assist. We want to express our gratitude for the offers, but at this time we are not in need of additional searchers. If we need additional resources, we will certainly reach out"

I doubt it has to do with custody but I understand why someone might think it has to do with polygamists. The area and the photo of the child might give clues. He is wearing a button up long sleeved shirt in the photo, while camping, which is highly unusual for everyone except FLDS. Lot of them in Arizona. Also, that's a large number of people camping.

But it certainly is all speculation and not helpful for these poor people.

The little boy behind him in the turquoise-ish shirt (the one sitting on what seems to be one of those fold up camping chairs with the black and/or silver narrow legs) is also wearing a collared button shirt.

The clothing (on kids camping), the large family group, and being from Colorado City does make that seem like a very plausible scenario.

There has, apparently, been a generous amount of offers by citizens to assist in the search or Jerold Williams, the five-year-old missing since yesterday. With several agencies already on scene, however, the Coconino County Sheriff’s office is requesting that the public only call in any known information to 928-226-5012.

They're saying they unauthorized groups might erase clues and hinder the search of authorities looking for Jerold.

Is there a FB page for the search?

eta: I've also only seen the one picture of him. Is that unusual?

I'd guess since they're camping they are probably limited to what they have on hand, which seem likely to be just what they may have on their phones, so they probably don't have a ton of choices.

It may also be that this is also the most recent one (as it definitely looks like they are camping in that photo given the tents and camping chairs visible)

Me too. I think a kid that age could easily survive a night out. And is old enough to know to try to signal or call out to searchers. And since there's so much deer in the area, predators should not be a major concern. I think he wandered and got lost.

Do we know if they're searching today? And how?

Individuals assisting with this search operation include Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies, 2 Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue ground search teams, Arizona Highway Patrol Officers, Arizona Game and Fish Law Enforcement Officers, US Forest Service Fire Crews, 2 search helicopters equipped with night vision equipment from the Nellis US Air Force Base, the Bureau of Land Management and 2 search dogs and their handlers who are also members of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit. During the night time hours the area where Jerold was believed to be missing from was searched by responders on foot and in vehicles driving on dirt roads.

I can't find the post now (maybe downstairs??), but I thought I saw someone asking if they were using FLIR or night vision

Seems so...so that's good!

Yes. And look to the left of the boy. Looks like the colorful folds of an FLDS ladies' dress.

If that's the case, we are not going to see much family interaction with the media. It also further explains the 4 hour gap before calling LE. These are not people trustful of Gentiles. They are used to taking care of things on their own.

we had massive thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in this area tonight from 6 - 10pm

BBM - That's what I was thinking too.

Unfortunate the weather has been stormy.

When we started camping with our kids, we always put them in a blaze orange hat or the little plastic blaze orange vests for hunters and gave them each a little LED flashlight with a carabiner clip. They can be had at any Walmart type store for under $5 each. We tell our kids if they are ever lost, find a cozy spot, put your hat/vest out in plain view close to where you are at, grab a stick, and do not move until someone finds you!

That sounds good advice for "big kids" (like me :D) too!

I don't find the 4 hours alarming. If there were as many as 20 folk there I can imagine they might have wanted to start their own search, especially as they seem to be from a community that is quite insular. Then maybe it took a while on wet, unsealed tracks to make it back to the highway and to the north or south to pick up a signal. And I really don't judge the parents/group for the delay as maybe Jerold has a history of wandering off and exploring...

I think the orange and green in the background of the photo could be one of those large canvas tents that the scouts used to use. They've all but been replaced by dome tents now.

I suspect the some degree of ties to the FLDS is VERY likely.

The last name is rather useless given it's so common, but Jerold isn't a common first name at all, and there are a couple (adult) Jerold Williams tied to Colorado City.

It sure looks like they may well be related to little Jerold based on ages or that he was named after them. Based on ages of the adult Jerold Williams one being father or grandfather or even uncle wouldn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

The elder Jerold Williams in Colorado City / Hildale used to be high up in the FLDS and has been involved in number of cases recently.

He had left CC and was heading up another FLDS compound in Pringle, SD until he was forced out. He's recently been served eviction papers:

From a few months ago:

Hildale and Colorado City are home to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jerold Williams, who used to be a FLDS bishop in Pringle, S.D., and has since been booted from the group, said on Friday that he has been told his home in Colorado City has been served an eviction notice.

Members of his family continue to live there, though they refuse to have contact with him since he was booted from the FLDS by its president, Warren Jeffs.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/1913388-155/utah-polygamous-trust-racking-up-about

This is an older site referencing when he was the FLDS bishop in Pringle.

As with the other FLDS communities, the residents at the Pringle compound are isolated, secretive and keep to themselves. Neighbors originally said that only one man, named Jerold (Williams), spoke for the estimated 60 people living here.

More on Pringle from back when Jerold Williams was in charge http://www.sltrib.com/ci_3681544

And more:

"Warren is on the FBI's Most Wanted List for good reason. He and his top lieutenants (one of whom is Jerold N. Williams, the man who controls the Farmer Road FLDS compound for Warren) have defrauded federal, state and local governments of millions of dollars. They have defrauded their own followers of an even greater amount," Krakauer said.

and more http://www.religionnewsblog.com/142...ly-flds-settle-into-south-dakotas-black-hills

Marriage record:

Jerold Nathan Williams and Gloria Elizabeth Williams. For Time and all Eternity. Witnesses: Wendell Nielsen and Isaac S. Jeffs. 12:40 p.m.

The other Jerold (N) Williams Jr. (27) from Hildale (so essentially Colorado City) just died a few months ago in CA but was buried back in CC. He could easily be the age of a father of a 5 year old - especially of someone at least raised very in/near the FLDS community (who tend to marry and have kids young).

http://www.altavistamortuary.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=1584582

And that Jerold has some arrests back in Utah last year, as well as in 2010

http://politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/post/87240079143/speaking-of-which and http://archive.thespectrum.com/article/20140129/NEWS01/301290010/Arrests and http://www.utahsright.com/chargesprofile.php?id=4596023

And there appears to be one other possibly relevant CC tied Jerold Williams in his mid-late 30's. He also could easily have a 5 year old.

If little Jerold isn't the son/grandson/nephew of the above Jerolds, I'd guess he may have been named after the elder one.

That sounds good advice for "big kids" (like me :D) too!

I think if anyone ever finds themselves truly lost, it's always best to stay in one place, especially in a large area. Easier to find a stationary target! This big kid carries a small fire starting kit, a handful of first aid supplies, and an extra pair of socks and gloves when I go out anywhere I can get lost on top of all the little kid things. If I'm going to be lost, I'm going to be warm with dry socks.

Some like to attack parents right away without trying to understand. There was no cell reception there.

There were 20 people. 19 could have been searching while 1 went to an area with signal to call. Four hours is not reasonable to wait. It's just not.

Not another child.... At a camp site.. Seems to be a few of them now with missing children..

Who would wait 4 hours to call the sheriff or police? I know if my great nephew was missing. I wouldn't be waiting no 4 hours to call the sheriff, I would be on the cell right now and the whole search and rescue at my feet until my nephew is found. Since there isn't much water there, how can these people camp? especially in improved area. Is there any water there like water holes? I know they have a few in Indiana.

I was going to say something, but I choose to let it be for now.
