There were 2 additional violent home invasions in Paradise Valley within the last four months. One was made public and the other was kept quiet. The quiet one was the wife of the Chairman of the Board of a large Phoenix-based company who was met at her mailbox with armed men. The woman and her husband were bound and jewelry, credit cards, art and other valuables were taken. Fortunately they were not hurt. They are also an older couple and very involved in philanthropic causes. Why our police department kept this on the down low is very questionable based now on the Shapiros' deaths.

3 Arrests Made in Shapiro Homicide Case


PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. - Sources tell us police have arrested three people in one of the valley's most shocking crimes: the murder of a Paradise Valley couple in their home.

Two independent sources close to the investigation say that three arrests have been made in connection to the murder of Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro. They were found dead from gunshot wounds in their burning home earlier this week.

The arrests bring relief to those in the community. Residents say they've been taking extra precautions ever since the crime occurred.


"He said we heard there have been three arrested and we know who the rest are," says Carolyn Sorenson, Shapiro family friend. "I am going to sleep tonight because I do feel like they're on top of it."

Neighbors: Police arrest suspects in murder of Paradise Valley couple

...Unnamed sources told 3TV reporter Mike Watkiss that Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro had been shot and that stolen evidence from the scene helped investigators trace the suspects to the murders.

Sources also confirmed that police are looking into a possible connection to a similar deadly fire at a townhome at 16th Street and Maryland Avenue last week.

The Paradise Valley Police Department has not confirmed any of that information with 3TV. Police officials said they will not be releasing any further information at this time....

PHOENIX -- Police say a deadly fire at a Phoenix townhome is being investigated as a homicide.

Phoenix firefighters responded to a fire at a townhome near 16th Street and Maryland Avenue Thursday morning and found Bruce Gaudet, 56, dead inside.

The unit was destroyed, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby townhomes.

Arson and homicide investigators worked the scene and with information obtained from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office, the investigation is now classified as a homicide, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Wellton, AZ-Maricela Sanchez, 27, appeared at the Wellton Justice court.

Sanchez faces one felony count of unlawful flight from pursuing law enforcement vehicles.

During the hearing Sanchez appeared to have mixed emotions, at times wanting to cry and later smirking with amusement.

Judge Russ Jones asked her is she supported anyone else besides herself and she mumbled.

Judge Jones asked her the same question again and she said yes. He then asked her how many people did she support, she replied the State of Arizona.

DPS authorities confirmed that Sanchez was speeding in a car that belonged to a homicide victim in Phoenix.

That same day around 9:30 a.m. Phoenix Police Department responded to an apartment fire.

Phoenix PD said Phoenix firefighters discovered the body of 56-year old Bruce Gaudet.

A friend of BG's didn't know who she was, but the suspect said:

"Married...oh well single.....separated," Sanchez said when asked by the judge what her marital status was.

Sanchez said she lives on the street, sometimes with friend and is currently unemployed.

"I don't know your honor. I need a counselor. I need rehab. I made a mess when I was 12 years old," she said.

X my heart, its right there in the article, didn't break TOS:innocent. PV hasn't confirmed regarding relation to the Shapiro's. But the other victim's home was in PPD's jurisdiction.

Here's an article from yesterday where the PPD says BG's murder might be related, the article also says rumors that the Shapiro's deaths were related to other crimes in the area are not true.

To me, this just looks like a "tough guy" (the leader I guess and person who committed the murders) and his minions (drug dependent violent thugs) - not really a gang.

Again, why was murder necessary? Why not just robbery?

Prosecutors in court documents accuse Brittnay Beinhauer of stealing property valued between $2,000 and $3,000 from Bruce Gaudet and another man on Jan. 30.

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities have formally charged five suspects in the killing of a couple in the wealthy Phoenix suburb of Paradise Valley.

Maricopa County prosecutors said Thursday that Michael Lee Crane, 31, of Mesa, is charged in a direct complaint with two counts each of first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and arson, and one count of burglary in last month's deaths of Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro.

Unfortunately, these people, even if they were only tied to Michael Crane for drug use, acted as a gang. The definition of gang is : A gang is a group of people who, through the organization, formation, and establishment of an assemblage, share a common identity. In current usage it typically denotes a criminal organization or else a criminal affiliation. These people as a gang worked together in crime. They stole from this lovely couple, but then also murdered them. I do not know if they can prove who committed the murder without confession.

It is strange to me that they stole the car, but then set it on fire. I would think leaving the car on fire away from the home was a bad idea. For one thing, it alerted the police to the home fire. For a second reason, it left another chance for someone to recognize them away from the scene of the original crime.

I am SO glad that these thugs are off the streets!! What a terrible tragedy.

A Phoenix woman arrested in connection with three homicide cases has pleaded not guilty to trafficking in stolen property and other charges.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 26-year-old Danielle Elaine Rossman entered her plea at her arraignment Wednesday. Her initial pretrial conference is scheduled for April 2.
