AZ - Man who followed teen into Phoenix restroom beaten to death by girl's father, 2 Aug. 2018

Now that we can agree on. Watching your Dad beat a guy to death would certainly be terrifying.
Makes one wonder what else she's been exposed to in her life. How awful. I would have such horrible guilt if my dad killed someone in front of me because of something I'd said.

It's not her fault this happened---her dad is the murderer, not her.

For sure!

But you don't even know who the witnesses are. Ranting about poor people has nothing to do with this case.

Right?!? Is there an income requirement for witnesses? Don't think so!!

Being threatened in a bathroom is what's terrorizing for a child. Can you imagine the fear she experienced with some guy trying to get at her?
Option 1: Sitting in a bathroom stall and some guy comes & rattles the door then goes away, allowing me to safely exit the bathroom.

Option 2: Watching my father, who is supposed to be a role model for adult stability and behavior but who has a proven record of violence, beat a complete stranger to death because of something I said.

I’ll take option 1 for my daughters every day. She would have gotten over the scare in the restroom (and I’m not saying it wasn’t scary - I’m sure it was and legitimately so), but she will never ever ever forget the images of what her Dad did to this man. He has victimized her far more than Mr. Armstrong rattling the stall door.

<munching my popcorn>

I don't do emojis - I know there is one for that.

It's been much easier to read this thread since I've figured a few things out and keep my treats to myself now. Ahem...

It matters if the witnesses are homeless? Why?
Not what I meant. The witnesses' backgrounds matter, as I have said over and over. Hmm, popcorn does sound good about now.

How do they matter?
The jury is instructed to always take the witnesses' backgrounds into account when it comes to believing them. That's why a witnesses' SM, criminal history, etc is fair game in a courtroom. It's called witness impeachment, that's why both sides try to use credible witnesses. That's why some witnesses are just never called and some are. It's not their testimony, it's their credibility. It's more important for the prosecution because it can taint the entire case in the eyes of the jury.

What is your concern about backgrounds? And why?

Why do you think these specific witnesses have issues with credibility?? Nothing about them has been released!

That is assuming that homeless people are all dishonest.

Midnight in a very very shady part of town. What were they doing there? That will be addressed.

You may also ask what a teenage girl was doing in a shady place at midnight?

Why do you say that? I don't say all homeless people are dishonest, however I know the area. They will have to account for being there. Also, they will have to be found in a year for the trial. That's a challenge when a person is transient. That's not only a concerned with the homeless, but also with people who like to be on the move. You can't force a person to stay if they don't want to stay. I don't think you can force them to keep in touch with the police, either. That would be an invasion of privacy.

We already know, they pulled off to find a bathroom. Naive, but not criminal.

Apparently it's sketchy to go to the neighborhood store at midnight?

In that area? Absolutely.

All the parties who were present at that location were, literally, present at that location all at the same time. So why is it sketchy for the witnesses to be there? The violent death which occurred that night was not perpetrated by anyone who "frequents" that area, but the guy who stopped there.

Again, the killer was not from that area, but he killed someone. His testimony is subject to so much concern--we KNOW what he's done and capable of. All we know about the witnesses is they were physically present at a location at a time. Period.
