The jury is instructed to always take the witnesses' backgrounds into account when it comes to believing them. That's why a witnesses' SM, criminal history, etc is fair game in a courtroom. It's called witness impeachment, that's why both sides try to use credible witnesses. That's why some witnesses are just never called and some are. It's not their testimony, it's their credibility. It's more important for the prosecution because it can taint the entire case in the eyes of the jury.

Why do you say that? I don't say all homeless people are dishonest, however I know the area. They will have to account for being there. Also, they will have to be found in a year for the trial. That's a challenge when a person is transient. That's not only a concerned with the homeless, but also with people who like to be on the move. You can't force a person to stay if they don't want to stay. I don't think you can force them to keep in touch with the police, either. That would be an invasion of privacy.
