I don't know if I could ever be the one to vote for the DP, but I have to say, when it comes to killing a police officer...it should be a given. JMO

Bernina,
I haven't followed this case, except the closings. I just can't compare him to Arias, who was not on drugs, and joyfully slaughtered a human being. Anthony's life meant everything to his family and Bryan was a real loser so he definitely deserves LWOP but I am not sure, based on his attorneys closing argument, that I could give him the DP. I guess you shouldn't compare one case with another. Don't get mad at me.

I sure wouldn't want to be in LE, in this day and time. Lack of respect for authority, law and life. The jurors know far more than I do. I just want them to be okay with their decision, no matter how long it takes. Maybe they went to lunch because they have made their decision already. :)

I've been following this case pretty much from the beginning...just cause it's in Arizona and I know the area down there in Glendale. I get more interested in cases that are in my own "turf" so to speak. Because I was born and raised here, I kinda have a clue on what the locals think about these cases. (The Arias case was nuts, anyone I ran into up here was hell bent on DP and was positive some bleeding heart, non-Natives were the reason why she didn't get a unanimous vote for DP:gaah:)

There REALLY is a lot in common with this case and Arias, as far as the reasons for delays. Right before the case started, many of us went through minute entries of hearings and it was like going back to Arias all over again.

Bottom line is Hulsey shot Holly in the face, just pulled his gun and shot..........and all Holly was doing was an "officer assist" for a traffic stop with 3 occupants.

What's really something is that Hulsey wasn't killed. But in my opinion, far more suspects are taken "alive" in Arizona compared to other states. Had an incident recently up here in Paulden that actually made it to the State news, 3 suspected gang members shooting at a vehicle beside them, LE (sheriffs) went in pursuit, suspects shot at LE, ended up on a road that stopped at a cliff. "floorlaugh: All 3 arrested. And this was happening in a rural community development, out down a main highway 100 mph(hwy 89) into another rural community just outside the Chino Valley city limits.

I really think it should automatically be DP. JMO. Don't know if it would give criminals the incentive NOT to kill LE, but it might be a start. LE works for very little pay, to put their lives at risk everyday. I think many should be compensated far more than they are and have more benefits, but it is what it is.

Oh! I am so sorry. So all Anthony did was show up to do his job and he gets shooting the face? Yeah, Hulsey will likely get the DP.

First he handed off his meth kit to a girl in the backseat, and then he was asked to step out of the car, started arguing about his man purse (which he was told he could hold onto, iirc) and then whipped out his gun and shot Officer Holly in the face, then took off running while still shooting. The first responding officer (Goitia) managed to get under cover when the shooting started and returned fire, no one else was injured even though at least 13 shots were fired, except Hulsey who took a bullet in the leg or knee.

I do hope they have a verdict and are ready to end this finally for the Holly family, friends and supporters.

I know that, for the members of this jury, they are having to make the most important decision about the life of another. Should the person live or die? Would a life in prison be a punishment worse than death?

Many who think they can pronounce a death penalty may find it not so easy at all.

See you all tomorrow. Let's hope they make a unanimous decision and not hang as with JA. That is punishment for us all to go through it all again.

Took a look at the docket/minute entries, the last one posted (for 8/21) has this section, about the unasked jury questions:

On the bottom schedule, this was added:

9/2/2014 10:30 Trial
9/3/2014 10:30 Trial

Just in case no verdict tomorrow, I suppose.

I don't get this. If the questions before lunch were inappropriate, the witness should have been held over until after lunch. If I were on the jury, I wouldn't like that. Didn't Dr. Cunningham testify for the defense?
