Phoenix police are looking for a woman after an infant boy was found dead at a Phoenix McDonald’s. Investigators released surveillance video of her on Monday afternoon. It shows her walking through the fast-food restaurant near 33rd Avenue and Indian School Road on Sunday afternoon. She tries to open a door and then walks back through the eating area and then out of sight from the camera. Investigators are calling her a person of interest. In the video, she’s wearing a black Calvin Klein shirt, black pants and sandals.

Police were called out to the McDonald’s around 2 p.m. on Sunday. They found the newborn inside the bathroom. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Phoenix Police Sgt. Philip Krynsky says detectives are actively working to investigate, and there are no suspects in custody. The autopsy results of the infant are pending, police said.

Police believe there are witnesses who left the McDonald’s before police got there. Anyone with information is asked to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish speakers. Please watch and see if you recognize her or if you were at that Mc Donalds yesterday afternoon between 12 and 2pm.

I’ve been trying to decipher the words on the second line of her t-shirt but my eyes suck. Her outfit reminds me of a hairstylist though.

Nice catch… thanks!
Good going for thinking up something that "sleuthing" could contribute to helping solve the case. It looked unreadable to me too, but luckily some searching online revealed a very similar shirt. I imagine it's the kind of leg work the authorities may not have the time for. Hopefully they find out what happened. And I hope it was merely a tragedy and some very poor judgment rather than something more sinister.

I am hoping that it was some sort of accident where the mom didn’t know what to do after the fact. I pray they find mom soon and will post any news I hear. Really the best thing we can do is try to spread the word and get as many people as possible to look at the security cam video.

I wonder if she gave birth in the bathroom?

First she goes up to the door but it's closed. It doesn't look like she is carrying something in her arms. She walks back, maybe to ask to use the bathroom/key and walks back...still nothing that looks like she is carrying a baby. The door is open now. It's hard to see if she is pregnant....she has a toddling walk though IMO. Djeez.... she must have been in labor.........how long did it take between her entering and exiting the bathroom and what about body fluids....(sorry) She could also have carried the baby somehow under her shirt...What a sad case.

I wonder if she gave birth in the bathroom?

My first thought…a youngster with a concealed pregnancy. I always feel sorry for someone in this situation…particularly when their picture is published, as they must have been in a desperate situation, for this to have happened.

I know a crime has been committed, however…….

In the UK, appeals are made for the mother of an abandoned/deceased newborn to come forward “as she may be in need of medical attention”

Here is just one example
Body of newborn baby found in Morrisons car park as police search for mum

( Clipped from this article, to highlight language used. Bracketed words I’ve added)
Police are urgently trying to trace the find the mum of the tiny baby ( found deceased) discovered at the store car park in Bilston, West Midlands, on Sunday….they (the police) are "extremely concerned" for the welfare of the baby’s mum, and are urgently appealing for her or anyone who knows who she is to come forward.

Police had launched a frantic search for the baby's mum amid fears she could require medical attention. They have since confirmed she has been found and taken to hospital.”

and from another similar case…

“This woman has been taken immediately to hospital where she'll receive the expert medical attention and professional support she needs.”

All MOO as I am guessing the circumstances in this particular case.

Agree with @Bethan, at any age she needs both physical & emotional care....

So just to understand. The baby was 25 weeks old...so this was a natural abortion of a not fully carried baby? What does jurisdiction say about that in America....I'm kind of confused...sorry.

If it was a spontaneous abortion, the mother could still be charged with improper treatment of a dead body. A natural miscarriage isn’t a crime. She didn’t look like she was showing much in the video, so a miscarriage makes sense.

Thank you for the info. Kind of like tempering with a body?

A few decades ago I earned a degree in Human Development.

26 weeks, born in a hospital, is generally survivable for the infant AFAIK.

25 weeks, in the Ladies? Don't know about that....

25-26 weeks is survivable (75%- 90%) with NICU care and months of support beginning at the moment of birth. That gestation born outside a hospital - survivable in some circumstances but more likely to have long-term possibly catastrophic consequences. If the actual birth weight is 1# - highly unlikely to have a good outcome born outside a hospital. Here's an article with some of the consequences lists- but keep in mind these are hospital births with critical care services available.
