That phone number for Jorge Mendoza Orantes is if you call North America from Mexico. That is how one would dial (709) 937-5335. The area code is for Newfoundland & Labrador in Canada. I wonder if the authorities tried to get a hold of him. Probably so but he was probably an undocumented worker also

Here is a link to the company. I am trying to find a similar shirt to post.

The North Carolina link could possibly be that NC is a common migration route for migrant farm workers. A common route is Florida, then North Carolina, then Michigan. Could have stopped by Southport on the way to mid-NC. I did find that Brunswick County (County Southport is in) used to be rich in Tobacco farming but that declined recently.
