OMG. The poor parents. I pray for them. It's not always, "Like father, like son," you know?

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2011/01/11/sot.loughner.neighbor.kgun?hpt=T2

Thanks for the link. According to the neighbor, the whole family has always been reclusive. I think he described the father as like a "mountain man" apparently meaning they preferred to live in isolation from others. :waitasec:

IMO, that's not a healthy environment in which to raise your child. Makes you wonder if the parents ignored the growing signs of mental illness in their son. MOO

He also said the parents are despondent, crying non-stop, etc. It sounds like they need some medical attention or counseling, but apparently don't want it.

Regardless of what the Loughners' son just did, it sounds very much like this couple is in crisis and in incredible shock. I understand that they've reached out to the neighbor who described them as very reclusive and not typically wanting to talk to anyone. I worry greatly about their mental health safety right now as it really doesn't sound as if they have a support system and I'm not hearing much about family. Does anyone know if they are getting some sort of support or help? Until we know more, I'm considering these folks victims too.

Forgive me if this has been posted but does anyone know if Loughner has always attended public school. I know he went to high school but what about the younger grades. I'm wondering if he might have been home schooled or not encouraged (for whatever reason) to socialize when he was young.

You're right, Missizzy, the parents need some crisis counseling. I hope its offered and they accept it. Tucson seems like a caring community, there's probably plenty of professionals who can offer them some counseling.

I do feel sorry for the parents, at this point their damned if they do and damned if they don't! I always felt bad for Jeffrey Dahmar's father!

I truelly do feel for these people, but from all reports it sounds like Jared had issues before he turned 18.(alcohol overdose in 11th grade),did they get him help? Also sounds like they imposed their isolationist lifestyle on him as a child, not letting him play with neighborhood children. I'd love to know about his life before high school. There is so much more we need to know to understand how Jared got to this point.
