I dont this so under threat. And it seems they always come back so.......

you certainly don't want to see a starving mountain lion coming at you. If you hadn't shot it, you may not have had the chance for a 2nd bullet.

On that note, we're not allowed to shoot any wildlife here either. We did find a bear in the road (hit by a car). Just a wee thing. Not sure what happened to the driver, but he left the scene.

When we hear wildlife we bang pots and pans and it does the trick. But there have been cases where bears have waltzed right into the front door and destroyed homes. Mountain lions eat our pets (I have 2 indoor cats obviously), and it's rare to see a domestic animal wandering out alone.

For those who live in rural areas, we are not the enemy. But we do what we have to do to protect our children.

I still doubt Sylar was carried off by an animal -- it would have left a pretty good scent trail.

JMO.

Was it hot enough at night time for him to die in the car if he was put to sleep there?

  • #463
With all the talk about wild animals, let alone the fact he was barefoot and only wearing a diaper, I'd say it is way past critical. MOO

Yikes, that sounded stupid when I went back and read what I posted.

I meant if he is to survive. He is to his absolute limit as a two year old without water. Sorry. Boy that sure looked stupid :blushing:

Wouldn't this campground almost be a perfect place if one wanted to have him meet with a "natural fate" or to accuse someone of kidnapping him? Just thinking of possibilities. MOO

I see where you are coming from but I have to ask "why"?. It doesn't look like this was a "legal" adoption. At any time Tina could have handed Sylar back to his bio mom and been done with it. She doesn't seem legally bound to take this child, even LE can't figure it all out. The bio-mom knows Tina, felt that her son was better off with her and left him with her, if Tina didn't feel she could/wanted to take care of him anymore she could have just handed him back to his mother, why take the chance and harm a child? I don't know, IMO there were ways out.

You shot and killed a mountain lion? For WHAT? As if shooting into the air, around him, etc. wouldn't have scared it off? Poor thing. Isn't that illegal BTW?

Yes, not something I wanted to do but necessary for the safety of everyone. I had a small child among other animals on my property and the Mountain Lion was not in it's right mind, that is apparent to attacking the dog on the porch and then turning to attack us after being confronted. Mountain Lions do not come out in broad daylight like this, nothing would scare the animal away we tried, it would have just came back and the next time it could have been my son, we did the animal a favor as it was just suffering and starving to death as it did not know how to hunt, and no it is not illegal.

I live in Colorado and you can shoot any type of animal that is harrassing or threating you or livestock, they give out Mnt. Lion hunting lic. here. We called proper authorities and they came and handled it all.

ETA: I am sorry if what I posted about the lion upset, or offended you I certainly did not mean for it to.

No, high fifties to low sixties is what I saw in that area. The desert cools off quick when the sun goes down and can get quite chilly feeling once you are acclimated to the hot days. JMHO.

Hey Suzi - you don't by chance live in Pine Mountain? LOL

Mel

Lol, West dessert aka Susan Powell. We have badgers out here too. Eeeek!

Yep, sure would.

I didn't think it was stupid at all! It is possible, by some miracle, that he could have found a source for water and be curled up somewhere they haven't searched. I just think it would have to be a miracle if he survived more than a few hours out there if he did indeed wander off. And I can't see him not crying once he got out too far which would've been heard. MOO

Thanks trigger. I always think of coyotes as a southwest animal. I know, I know. Poor little girls. That's something they will always remember. Like the bear that attacted our camp, most scariest thing in my life so far. No one was hurt though.

Coyotes are everywhere.

We even have lots of them in Ontario Canada.

You even see them in Toronto

What kind of snakes are out there, anyone know?

Well that's another thing. Scent dogs don't track him out of the campground. And that indicates a two legged animal which would be possible if he was wandering around and left in a car or his custodial mom handed him off. My limited knowledge is wild animals leave a drag trail. He was small though.

You're right. I'm just grasping for ideas right now. The only other thing I can think of off hand if his reported disappearance isn't legitimate is something accidental happened between 9:30pm and when he was reported missing and it's being covered up. MOO

I know rattlesnakes are prevalent in Arizona but I'm not sure about this elevation. :waitasec:

I keep wondering about a hand off myself, not sure why but just do......

The other thing I have been wondering is just where the dogs lost his scent. If he did fall in the water somewhere isnt it hard for dogs to track a scent once a person has been in the water ?

Are their trees around? Mountain lions can take their prey up a tree. However, I keep thinking how kids love water. At night the water sound can be very tempting. My unofficial knowledge of drownings is that bodies appear at around 10 days given the variances in temps and if they have been snagged on something.

Was it raining at the campground?

From the videos I saw it wasn't raining when Tina ran up to her sister. Then I saw another video where it was raining.

My first thoughts were he somehow got into the creek, however I've heard it's been searched and doesn't have a fast current.

I'm grasping as well. I don't like the "water" situation and the fact he loves water however I don't know the campgrounds so I don't know how far the water is from the campsite.
