There is speculation from day one about abuse... and then all info was shut off. I'm not saying the father was abusing the son at that moment however I have to wonder what possibly could have set off such a young person. We are all wondering and I'm speculation.

Thank you for the clarification of one charge for now. I still wonder though - there is much we don't know.

So, he hit Mr. Romans four times, from a distance but missed when he was practically standing over him? There are so many questions about this case....

May have been adrenaline. It happens.

The autopsy had not been done at that time. Maybe he shot and the bullet passed through the knit hat he had on and struck the door or only grazed his skull. Many scenarios why it could have struck the door and lodged into the bottom frame of the door.

YW.

True. Even the boy's attorney doesn't know. He commented yesterday iirc that he didn't know if it wasn't to gain a tactical advantage.

So he seems shocked by it too but suspicious of the DAs reasoning.

Hi
How do the police think it happened and how his father died?

suzanne

You mean about the bullet being lodged in the metal door? That is what they believe. That a shot was fired with Mr. Romans' head right up against the door. May be a shot where the bullet passed through and struck the door or a miss shot. They will be able to learn which one from the autopsy. The officer who testified when he saw the body of Romans they did not removed his knit cap but he did see blood on the back of his head, irrc.

They have it all measured out so they will be able to know exactly where Romans laid in correlation to the door and the bullet hole.

Would it have been getting dusk dark by 5 pm in AZ? I know it gets real dark here by 6 at night.

I would think the ME will say they both died from multiple gunshot wounds.

I am not sure there was speculation. Even the PC and the boys own attorney said they have uncovered no abuses.

Now the PC did say that angle would be checked out and that is SOP when a murder has occurred and it involved family members. They would be derelict in their duties if they didn't check it out whether it existed or not.

There's a difference in an 8 yr old gaining access to a gun and accidentally shooting someone and what this 8 yr old did. He reloaded a weapon to fire 10 times into two individuals - without remorse. IMO even if a gun had not been in the house, this boy would have found a way to harm his father.
I agree, Trino. I wonder if we'll ever know "why" he felt the need to kill these 2 men?

  • #828
As far as what caused the murders, he just had a visit with Mama. Maybe he wanted to live with her, now he is going to get his way probably. Mr. Romans was a witness.

Given the age of his parents, I'd say that the liklihood of prenatal exposure to alcohol is high. I found this:

"Impulse control has NOTHING to do with knowing the rules or understanding the consequences when rules are broken. Impulse control is a neurological function of the frontal lobe, which is damaged by prenatal exposure to alcohol. The frontal lobe, when it functions properly, controls inhibitions and judgment."

http://www.come-over.to/FAS/ImpulseControl.htm

Even if alcohol exposure was not a factor, children's brains do not finish making all of the neurological connections necessary to reliably control impulses until much later than 8 years old. I have read that our brains are still developing these connections until our early twenties.

Susan
Tnx for the link TGIRecovered. The fact that "the frontal lobe, when it functions properly, controls inhibitions and judgment" might mean he needs more intensive testing of his brain. Can you imagine what the development of the frontal lobe of this child is at 8 years old when a 21 year old's brain is not even fully developed?

Okay, ty. Haven't been following all the info or news about this. What happened to this little guy? How could this have happened?

I'm NOT blaming video games but it certainly desensitizes people. was he ever allowed to play those violent murder games? I don't even know what they're called. But those that you can hire a hooker and kill her too?

Unless this child has massive brain trauma or defect, what happened? My gosh.

Abuse by his father? His father still had his work overalls on, jacket, boots, hard hat and even his goggles on when murdered going up the stairs in his home. They can pull one of the charges and hold it to a later date. IMO the father's case is the tighter one. They will go with Romans first because this boy had no bond with this man.

This is the same thing that happened in the Darlie Routier case. They pulled the murder charge on her youngest son even though they knew she had murdered them both. They held it in case she was found not guilty on the first murder charge or had received a lighter sentence than life. When she got death there was no need to go forward.

They can try him anytime at a later day that they wish because there is no time limitations on murder charges being refiled. The DA made it very clear that his motion was bolded with WITHOUT PREJUDICE which means he is letting them know he can refile at anytime he chooses. If he had discovered a legitimate reason for the murder he would have filed motion to dismiss and would have bolded WITH PREJUDICE which means he doesn't ever intend to file charges again.

IMO, he is not going to try the two murders together in juvenile court knowing that he will get the same punishment as if he had only killed one.

Wonder who drives home with goggles and hardhat on??????????:waitasec:

LOL I see lots of construction guys and gals going home with their hardhats on. I imagine he probably still had his safety glasses on and the officers calls them "goggles" up there in AZ.

:waitasec: After seeing the Good Morning America interview this morning with biological mom, I am so confused by the case. Here's why:

- he's too well-spoken for an 8 year old
- he claims he only fired the gun twice
- he was interrogated without counsel/parents
- his answers sound like he is trying to please the officers

I am sure we'll have a lot more info, but I am still not convinced here.

He definitely is well spoken. It shows that he is a very engaging person and knows how to have a conversation with anyone.

But I have known some children who were the only child living in the home where there are only adults and they do seem to be more mature than others.

I can certainly understand that. lol I live in the deep South.....here, it is as common as apple pie. :)

I have even seen them in the stores shopping after work, still in their full construction gear.

It was around 50 degrees that day, iirc, so maybe he didn't want to take his stuff off until they got home. Or maybe he just shucked all of it off in one designated place everyday so that it would all be there to put back on the next morning.
