Sheila von Wiese Mack of Lake Shore drive, widow of James L Mack, composer, had a daughter at age 43, she said in this 2013 interview here. I believe Sheila was born in 1952, so that would make the age of the teenage daughter she talks about, 19 years old now.

This lady has a high profile and an even higher profile circle of acquaintances, it seems.

Interview starts pg 5.

There is a framed photograph behind Shelia. The wooden frame has the word "Dolphin" at the top. Could it be her daughter, Heather, in the photo with the two dolphins?

Shelia broke her hand fighting off her attacker(s). How very frightening for her.

They escaped an horrific attack where her mother was murdered .. then went to another hotel and had a snooze?! Pfft .....

Yup. They didn't REALLY think that one through.......:gaah:

Surveillance cameras later recorded Von Weise Mack and Schaffer arguing in the hotel lobby.

The morning after that argument, Lois and Schaffer checked out of the hotel and took a large suitcase out to a taxi stand. The pair then went back into the hotel and snuck out through the back of the resort.

Both were questioned but refused to talk until being joined by attorneys.

"The body was wrapped in a hotel bedsheet and tied up with duct tape," said Inspector Djoko, according to The Daily Mail. "There were blood stains all over the sheet." :(

Is it understood Mrs Mack was a member of the Caxton Club, a historical and literary society based in Chicago. In an interview last year with the club’s magazine, Mrs Mack said that after leaving university, where she had studied political science, she had worked for Senator Kennedy as a researcher.

She later returned to college to complete a PhD at the University of Chicago under the direction of the novelist Saul Bellow, who died in 2005. “It was an extraordinary time,” she told the magazine. “We studied the books Bellow wanted to study, which included the authors Joyce, Fitzgerald, Dickens, and Balzac. Of course, I also read all of his own books, but we never discussed them.”

Mrs Mack was married to the composer and arranger James Mack. He died in 2006. He had worked on more than 60 albums for artists including Nancy Wilson and Jerry Butler.

Not finding anything so far. Reading comments on FB, says police were often called to their home? I haven't seen that in MSM yet, must have missed it.

ETA: Ah, found it:

Neighbors also say they saw police at the house often after James Mack died to deal with domestic issues.

Bit more info. Sheila had left Oak Park.

'The victim, who moved from Oak Park to Chicago's Gold Coast in 2012, was found half-naked with wounds to her head, police said.'

And it sounds as though something may have been building up?

In an interview published last year, Sheila von Wiese-Mack also talked about having her daughter at age 43 and doing her best to be at home with her teenager during the evenings...

Records show von Wiese-Mack recently lived in Oak Park. Officials at Oak Park-River Forest High School confirmed both Mack and Schaefer were graduates of the school. Heather Mack graduated this year; Tommy Schaefer graduated in 2011, according to the school...

The neighbor said there were constant screaming matches at the home, and that the mother and daughter would regularly call the police on each other. The fighting at the home was serious enough to sometimes end with physical injuries, the neighbor said. Von Wiese-Mack sold the house in May 2013, the neighbor said. Near the end, the neighbor said, police visited the home once or twice a month.

Sheila's interview is on Page 7:

I'm thinking that the young people use other social media now and facebook is passe. I did find some stuff about the boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer. If you google "tommyexx" you will find his Instagram with a photo of Heather. Heather is on Instagram as well, but her profile is set to private. Here is Tommy's website. He is apparently a musician of some sort.

Wondering also if there were drugs involved here {kids} not Mom.

It's a bit bizarre that the young couple thought they would get away with this. I don't understand why they didn't just get out of Bali ASAP - and why they didn't dump the suitcase somewhere rather than leaving it in the possession of a taxi driver to buy themselves more time.

Maybe they totally freaked out and panicked - because I'm not seeing a whole lot of rational thought going into their 'getaway' plan.

".....“At least four or five of us would say to kick her out. She was hanging out with a bad crowd,” Bacharach told NBC News. “But Sheila always took her back. [Heather] could be as charming and self-effacingly sweet one minute, and then a vicious little monster the next.”....."

Just sickening. Sounds like Sheila kept forgiving her daughter until it was too late.
People talk about "tough love" ; but it's harder to implement than it sounds.
What a terrible way to die.
Lock them up and throw away the key !
:moo:

Rest in gentle peace, Sheila --- you did not deserve this !

"...'She tried to hope when it came [to Heather],' Mr Bacharach told NBC News. 'That was my friend's most outstanding characteristic...."

Police called on domestic situation, 86 times?? Wow.

WTH? --86? How can it happen so many times without someone being locked up for awhile?
