Rumours are still circulating that the accused may be returned to the US ....

See below.

I've never heard of anyone being returned to their home land from Indonesia to stand trial ... I think it would be resisted heavily by the local police there, if the National Police tried to pull a stunt like that.

Boy, if that did happen, could you imagine the floodgate that would open? Australia would sure as heck start pushing hard to have our people brought home for trial (particularly as we do not have the death penalty here, and some of our people in jail there have death penalty sentences) ... after all, we have an extradition treaty and neighbouring/regional relationship with Indonesia ... the US don't even have that. It would be seen as quite outrageous, I think.

It has never happened and never will. Requests don't equal action.

9 years old and Heather couldn't sit still. Is it possible she could have had ADD or ADHD that went untreated and therefore turned into a Behavioral Issue? Or isn't that possible?

Or she could just be an out of control brat. Spoiled kids keep pushing because they are desperate for boundaries. However, ADHD is linked to the possibility of later bi polar disorder. I learned that in connection with some of my cases.

This is all just so crazy. The police reports show ALOT of discord but man when viewing Heather's videos she seems absolutely normal. Some enjoyable. The videos with her mom seem happy, not Heather giggling viciously, but instead as though it was funny bc her mom said the f word lol. The videos with her friends seem normal. Even the ones of Heather by herself cussing seem normal. Lots of kids do that. So why the night and day in Heather when it came to her mother? Why is it her mom that's the person she lashed out on whenever something didn't go right? Is it bc of it being such a vicious cycle?

Mom had "her" money. Mom tried to control her behavior. Her friends didn't.

I'm confused, this article says gloom the previous article says sorority house.. Which is it? Jmo

ciao

After reading both I think it's a horrible place but not as bad as other prisons in Asia. I think they actually try to make it liveable and not torture. But this is a third world country. She will be bathing with a bucket, sleeping dormitory style on the floor, squeezed in between other women, learning Indonesian, likely not using tampons or toilet paper, not having good food or tv or a cell phone, etc. She will survive on Indonesian DVDs, a totally foreign culture, guards who demand respect and obedience, plain, basic Indonesian rice dishes, un bottled water (hello diarrhea), no beach trips, no clubbing, no anti-depressants, no twitter, vine, or facebook, no dog to cuddle with, no college to go to, no nice soft bed, clean bathroom with a real toilet and hot water, no alcohol, pot, or Xanax to help her deal, no mother to bail her out - just awful.

She's facing a huge shock.

I guess it would depend on the company she were in, Nightwatch. Heather will share a dorm with a dozen others and also share the bathroom and laundry facilities. There's no washing machines and driers, it's scrub by hand. Not that she'll have lots to wash - it's all sarongs and flip flops. The inmates are responsible for their own actions just like they would be at home. There's no one to pick up after a spoiled child, nor cleaners to do the chores. One woman's level of cleanliness is different from another. It is in the tropics so it will be hot all the time with just a wet season and a not wet season. Hot and humid. I've lived in the region in the past.

Heather will learn pretty fast, that tantrums won't get any favours. She might even get to 'grow up'. As I said in the beginning of this thread, it will be the boredom of the routine that wears the inmates down - especially with long sentences and Heather will get a long sentence. There will be no risk of her being put in front of a firing squad, never fear.

Jail time is about rehabilitation, rather than retribution in that culture. I know it is a totally different mindset for someone from the US to imagine. From what I have observed over many years, the Balinese people are gentle, yet firm with very strong family values. They will treat Heather as an extended member of 'the family' under their conditions and their rules; their boundaries. She'll get 'the parent' her personality needed - IMO.

One game of tennis a week is for exercise and release of tension for the men - probably saves on medical costs in the long run. There's no pleasure to be had.

Here's a taste of what it took to get an Aussie girl out after 9 years. She has to live out her 20 year sentence (less pardoned years) in Bali living with her sister who is married to a Balinese.
...the promise that Mercedes and Wayan will help Corby with her "morale'' and "oversee her education as a responsible citizen'' is seen as an important part of Corby's parole bid.

I'm guessing Sheila figured out when TS showed up that she (stolen) paid for his ticket.

Where have any of you found good comments (ESP. From locals) about the family? I mean, aside from here? I'm glad I found this web page... I love picking apart mysteries like this case.

:welcome:

The following Oak Park site seems to have quite a few people, claiming to be local, commenting on the case:

Looks like they decided to disable reader comments... A least on the most recent article.

You know what just occured to me?

Heather brutally murdered the ONLY person that would have gotten her out of this mess.

Just so senseless the way this violence against Sheila escalated. What was this poor mother thinking as she was being beaten to death?

I'm May be different if the U.S could argue the crime planning originated in the U.S?

I don't know why that should have an effect though. Drug mules carry drugs through Bali fairly frequently apparently. If they are caught, they are prosecuted and jailed in Bali, even though their crimes were planned and originated in another country (usually Brazil/South America, they say).

The Bali Nine - 9 Aussie lads who were caught, prosecuted and sentenced in Bali - were trying to smuggle heroin out of Bali, the heroin and plan for its transportation supposedly originated in another country.

Bali is an ideal transit point because the bosses are able to switch runners, ensuring those trafficking to Australia or other Asian countries don't have South American stamps in their passports, which creates extra scrutiny.

Some 2.9 million people visited the island last year, nearly equal to its population.

This allows traffickers to slip in and out of Bali, carrying windsurfers, backpacks, surfboards, kite sails and hang gliders stuffed with cocaine, surrounded by real tourists with the same gear.

I wonder if they are going to try and say it was self defense after Sheila attacked HM?

Jumping off your post. I don't think those two had drugs, alcohol perhaps. Heather had flown in two days before S arrived iirc. They had to get through security and searches so no smuggling of drugs there. Where was there time to go out in a strange city to ask about and buy drugs before they killed Mrs Mack?

Maybe they could have taken drugs before they left US, idk. Soaussie can you help? How easy is it to buy drugs around the area of the hotel? Just don't think drugs are the excuse here she had been beating on her mother for years. Jmo

ciao

I don't really know how easy it is to buy drugs on the street there. My brother who lives there, and his wife and community, are very down on drugs, and don't give the impression that they are readily available. Poorer local people try to sell fake drugs to the tourists, apparently.

This tourist blog says the guy could not find a joint the whole time he was in Bali.

But this FB site about the book Hotel Kerobokan (and other articles) say that drugs are rife in Kerobokan prison .. so where do those drugs come from?

Just want to add, Schapelle Corby was jailed in Bali for trying to bring 4kg of pot into Bali. Makes me wonder about the availability there.

Bali is tropical, which means that cannabis grown there is low in THC, therefore not strong, and not very desirable. The argument is that Schapelle Corby smuggled in cannabis grown in South Australia (dry climate, high THC - highly desirable). The plastic that it was wrapped in was shaped exactly like the boogie-board bag it was contained in, making it almost completely improbable that it was planted on her in an airport.

According to this report, the American atty hasn't left yet for Bali:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/08/21/us-indonesia-crime-idUSKBN0GL19V20140821

"The couple's police-appointed lawyer, Haposan Sihombing, said he spoke with Elkin on Wednesday and the American lawyer had not yet confirmed he would be travelling to Indonesia.

Sihombing said Mack had refused to talk to him.

"I again tried to explain to Heather that under Indonesian law, if Michael Elkin does come, he could not act as her lawyer," Sihombing told Reuters.

"I told her this is being uncooperative. You must not be secretive and be open about this."

Asked if Mack was sure Elkin would come, Haposan said: "She is sure he will come and has said that Elkin advised her to give no statement until he arrives."

Mack and Schaefer have been placed on suicide watch and the two have not been allowed to see each other, despite repeated requests from Mack."

The last paragraph above should say HELLO Heather you're in jail you will never talk to S again. Maybe she wanted to go over that gang attacked us story. Smh jmo

I wonder if Sheila’s brother is the executor of her estate, and as such has control over her money and how it is distributed.
Sheila probably made someone else the facilitator of any monies to go toward HM’s care and welfare – imo - particularly with her stormy relationship with her daughter and her daughter’s immaturity.

Attorney Michael D Elkin may be finding that no-one is going to fund his trip to Bali or foot his legal bills.

He sure is taking a looonnng time to rush to his client's side. It has been 10 days since their arrest ...... :waiting:

And she was apparently standing up when attacked.

Has it been discussed why she was also naked? Or at least how she became naked before being stuffed in the suitcase?

Considering he was the executor of JM's will, I would think that he probably also is the executor of his sister's. I also wonder just what arrangement SWM may have made in regards to her estate and her only child.

I also think this lawyer, who jumped on to this case after the first phone call from HM, without considering the fact that she may have no means to pay him, may be reconsidering whether he wants to foot the bill to travel to Bali without knowing if he'll be repaid for his efforts.

I think she was actually half-naked - somehow the 'half' has been dropped by some MSM.

Possibly she was ready for bed when she was attacked ... maybe she just slept in a nightie with nothing under it? It is quite hot and humid in Bali.

The 62-year-old's half-naked body was found on Tuesday in a blood-stained suitcase in the boot of a taxi in front of the five-star St Regis hotel in the upscale Nusa Dua resort area.

America doesn't want Heather Mack back here to stand trial, at least I don't- take Amanda Knox back while you're at it too!!!

Since I never smoked pot in my life, and never wanted to try to; I don't know much about it. But I do know that now in Washington State and Oregon, which are both near the water (Pacific Ocean) and gets tons of rain each year off and on, its both legalized now and very popular stuff, especially in Oregon, which is rife with ex hippies from the 1960s who went back to live and retire there or never left there.

So perhaps, it doesn't really have much to do with watering or humidity after all??

I suppose that's possible, just wearing a nightgown/shirt of some sort. I wonder why they've released so much information on TS's movements, caught on video surveillance that night/morning and not HM's movements. They would know from the security videos which room HM was in at the time of the murder and at what time she emerged from that room.

So are we to assume that after the arrival of TS, HM still chose to stay in the room she was sharing with her mother, even after the argument in the lobby? And at some point in the early morning hours TS moved from his room to their room. I guess the question is, was that in a pre planned/premeditated move to kill SWM or was he summoned after an altercation? I wonder if there will be any deleted text information between the two of them that night? Either a plan, or a panicked text for help?
