A little more about tommy exx:

http://www.tommyexx.com/about-tommy-exx.html

"Tommy "Exx" Schaefer was born July 13th, 1993, to an African American mother, raised by a single parent as the white father left after birth. He was raised on the south side of Chicago but in high school moved to Oak Park, west of downtown. Standing at 6'4, Tommy Exx was a baller in high school and was your prototypical ''hip hop head'' his entire life. His describes Kanye West, Mos Def, Eminem and Biggie Smalls as his biggest influences.. He received a full ride from Northern Illinois University and attended one year there, which he describes his time there as "difficult and disappointing" due to the let down of not being able to afford his lifelong dream of attending Tulane University, which is one of the reasons he reverted to writing. Shortly after transferring to study Music Business at Colombia College in Chicago, Tommy Exx dropped out to solely focus on hip hop."

My understanding is that there was no money left for Heather. Heather might have been really angry about that.

"The Mack family’s 2001 complaint against the cruise line became a wrongful death lawsuit after James Mack’s 2006 death. And it ended in a $1.5 million settlement in 2011, court records show.
...

Sheila von Wiese-Mack netted $340,667 after legal fees for her share of the 2011 settlement, according to court records. Another $500,000 went to James Mack’s estate.

But von Wiese-Mack was the executor of that estate. And in June 2011, a judge authorized von Wiese-Mack to pay herself the remaining $500,000 as the estate’s “sole beneficiary.”

I really wonder how this happened. Could this be the reason she made sure to keep record of all the calls to the house? Did she have to prove that her daughter was mentally unstable? Is it that easy to break a Will? Can an attorney chime in? TIA

Was HM's twitter account always locked? I wonder who locked it?

In most of the pictures they have of her in custody, it seems she still has her phone. If she has service/WiFi, I'm sure she did it herself.

So ... when TS ultimately checked into the St. Regis, who provided credit card or agreed to pay for his room 616???

Is there even a room 616? 50 shy of a 666! :hills:

See these would be easy enough details to come by if the crime had been committed here...or at least I think the US press would try their darndest to get this information. Could TS/HM have held a room using a credit card online? Did the people at the front desk then want to swipe a credit card when he checked in? I know in many of these resorts you have to have a reservation to pass the main gate...or prove you're a guest by giving a room number. Otherwise, it's very difficult to make it to the main entrance (lobby). So how did he make it past security? Did he call HM to get it straightened out? Is that when she had to come clean to her mother about everything? Is that why they were all down in the lobby so late?
It's frustrating to have to wait for someone to release this information to satisy our inquiring minds.

A wise man told me once, for every unkind word or action a person suffers, while in an abusive relationship, that it takes one hundred nice/kinder things to make up for that one nasty word or deed.

After spending time on the OakPark site and viewing HMs vines, I am greatly disturbed by Shelia's foul language and improperly placed laughter regarding reactions to her daughter. I cannot imagine calling my precious daughter a b****, or a wh***, or low class. Now, I am unsure which one made the other one crazy.

There were four vines posted by HM that I found unsettling. One was hash tagged #meanmom. The saddest vine for me was when her mom enters the bedroom in the morning to ask HM if she has "picked up" in the bathroom. Heather had already done so; however, her mom makes an eerie almost wicked laughter. In one vine, Heather speaks about the colleges she likes and in one she is wearing a Yale sweatshirt. I am of the opinion that with proper encouragement, Heather would have not dropped out of high school and would have attended college perhaps even an Ivy League University. Perhaps some of her acting out was due to the chaos and confusion of living with a loved one who drank far too frequently and excessively.

I do not believe TS passport was in the hotel's safety box but I've been wrong before. I do believe TS was still deeply mourning the loss of his girlfriend appx eight weeks earlier and was searching for love and stability. Both HM & TS were deeply troubled youths. Their meeting was a keg of gun powder ready to blow.

About the twitter acct, I was engrossed in the Dr. Taleka Patrick's missing case at WSs. WSs would go to the parking lot in the evenings and read her tweets. Evidently there is a tool available that allowed them to find her deleted tweets.

O/T - The following article talks about a March of this year murder that happened in Jakarta. The article describes what sounds like many eerie similarities to the Bali Suitcase Murder. Will be interesting to see how the "lovebirds" case/trial progresses to see if it foreshadows what will happen in the Bali Suitcase Murder.

Woman accused of Bali suitcase murder had troubled family life in Chicago
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/22/bali-suitcase-murder-troubled-family-life-chicago

Thank You. I value reading a news article like this one that gives me more of a peek into the dynamics of the lives of the people involved. For a moment there, I felt like I was in the basement of the estate sale looking at all the James Mack musical scores.

From this article:
"Heather Mack dropped out of high school two years early and lived in two different facilities for minors in the county’s juvenile court system who suffer from mental health problems."

Too bad they couldn't help her mental problems.

I wonder what length of time she was there?

I'm going to disagree about two things:

I don't think Sheila was referring to HM when she said those things. It also looked like they were on vacation in a hotel room. Maybe the glass was water and Sheila was jet lagged? Or took ambien? I didn't feel certain she was drinking wine and/or drunk.

Also, I don't think TS and the deceased girl were really dating or close, definitely that she was not the "love of his life" (maybe in his mind)? I looked at her obit and the comments and different web pages about her death and I read her dad's eulogy/comments from her funeral and TS is mentioned nowhere, not even in all the people her dad was thanking at the funeral. Oh wait, there was ONE comment mentioning Tommy and it was written by his mother.

He got pregnant a new girl 2-3 months after the "love of his life" died? Sorry, I'm not buying at all that the girl's death had any negative impact on him. I can find no evidence that they were in a serious relationship.

All I know is this vacation was a bad idea from the start. I wish mother and daughter went to some therapy resort to work out their differences. They needed a third-party therapist to help them through their issues, and it wasn't going to be TS with his own selfish agenda.

Mother and daughter both went to Bali with agendas they were going to push on one another. Look at the Timeline, they were both arguing and making enough of a scene within days of arriving. It was suppose to be a vacation to enjoy, resolve differences, and strengthen their bond, but they both may have been clinging to their agendas and battles over control. It may not have been premeditation, but the mother and daughter battle had reached a fever pitch by the time TS showed up.

I wish it turned out different, but only sorrow came from this vacation.

"The attorney for Heather Mack, a former OPRF High School student who awaits trial in a Bali jail for murder, has had limited access to her Chicago-based attorney, according to a news release."
"The release also noted that for reasons he is unable to disclose, Elkin and his staff are still in the U.S., "coordinating with experts around the world, with respect to Heather's representation and health concerns.""

They may not grant him a visa. He isnt going there on vacation.

ETA: I wonder if it is finally dawning on her that she is going on trial in Indonesia for murdering her mother.

Is the middle initial of the attorney D? If so, there's a site called avvo with reviews of his services of 50% family-50% criminal cases and a good rating. Earlier, someone mentioned they thought he was mainly a divorce/family attorney.

Thank you for that post, DeDee.

I too have wondered about the dynamics between Sheila and Heather - as in, it takes two people to establish a relationship this deeply dysfunctional.

And when I read all of the police reports I started to wonder about Sheila, as many of the 'missing persons reports' are filed a couple of hours after she hasn't seen Heather. Day after day. It seemed odd to me. And in one case, iirc, Heather was at school the whole time - she hadn't gone anywhere.

I wondered what LE made of this woman always calling them saying her daughter was missing, only to have her turn up a few hours later. But maybe that was a condition of her living with her mum and not in juvenile detention? That would explain some of that behaviour.

Obviously though, no matter what Sheila did, it in no way condones Heather killing her!!

Can I just say that if the Balinese people read this, they will be deeply offended. (bbm) Because the tacit implication in this statement by her US attorney is that Balinese legal representatives are NOT trustworthy or knowledgeable :

She is not speaking to police, said her Chicago attorney Michael Elkin, because he has not yet been able to secure her an Indonesian counsel.

“It’s not easy to find a trusted, well-versed and knowledgeable individual,” he said. Elkin said Mack did not have counsel at the last time he spoke to her, which was early on Tuesday morning.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/22/bali-suitcase-murder-troubled-family-life-chicago

Again, this doesn't bode well for her as respect is very important in the Balinese culture and legal system.
