So we've got HM dropping out of school a couple of years ago and staying in a hotel with her mother's credit card in July. So...what was she doing the other 2 years? No job I assume? Then we've got reports saying that her mother had to talk her into going on the trip 3 weeks prior while she was living in a hotel. So it sounds to me that the hotel reports are from the same time since 3 weeks prior would have been the same time in July as TS's birthday. I wouldn't exactly say she was "living in the hotel" but it appears that she took off from home around the time of TS's birthday and stayed in one for a few days until SWM got word where she was by checking her credit card. So are we to assume she went to the hotel, talked HM into coming back home and going on the trip with her and also pressed charges on TS? Blaming him for being a bad influence on her daughter? Or did she just send the police over there to deal with it? In which case both would have been kicked out for non payment of the room and HM would have had no other choice than to go back home if TS didn't offer for her to stay at his home. Not to mention I'm sure the trip was already booked so perhaps HM wanted to go on the trip and was promising TS that she'd get him a plane ticket to go as well.

Shouldn't HM & TS try to help themselves by confessing all and begging for mercy??? TIA

Just dawned on me that I've been assuming Heather was in the room with her mother on the 3rd floor. She could've been in Rm 616. No one has said where she was when TS was seen going down to the 3rd floor room and then lugging the suitcase upstairs. Have they? She asked if they're sure she's a perp.

Guess she's wondering what to say now that the "overtaken by gang" story didn't work.
She wants and needs to talk to TS, and stick with TS, if only she could see him.
This might indicate she's not ready to throw him under the bus just yet.
She definitely needs to find out exactly what LE has on her before she can spin another story.
She's not making a statement. She is waiting for that US attorney.
This girl still believes there's some way out of this.

BTW, on the other topic, I remember some article stating Sheila, in an email to a friend, said she was consumed to just find out that Heather was not attending or had been skipping school, I believe this was in 2013. (yes, this girl reminds me of Casey Anthony in many ways) What's Heather been doing in her freedom time if not working a regular job? Where was she getting money living in a hotel?

Went over some of those 86 calls, and the Police Reports again. According to a report way towards the bottom, dated May 27, 2013 , Heather was still going to school.
Also, I see, unauthorized by mother credit card use happened before. Isn't there any way to stop a child from using your credit card without permission?

We know that CCTV caught TS lugging the suitcase from the Sheila's room & ending up in room 616 - but there's no mention of HM caught on tape going to TS's room, thus she probably was in the same room as Sheila.

I've also been curious about, and have questioned earlier, why the media only seems to be getting information in regards to TS's movements and activities that night/morning. I also wonder where HM was during his movements and how the two of them ended up in the lobby together the next day to check out. From what I read, TS lugged the suitcase up to his room, changed clothes (and likely showered) and then called for a luggage cart to take his luggage down to the lobby. But I believe the suitcase with SWM in it was put on the bottom and other suitcases were put on top. I believe there were a few others in the cab as well. His and HM's? Where were all of SWM's belongings, assuming the suitcase she was in was hers? And how did all the suitcases get up to his room in order for him to stack them on the luggage cart? Was HM in his room when the bellboy showed up? If not, did they have a prearranged meet time in the lobby? I think there is much more on surveillance than has been let out in the media. Just wondering what the strategy is with regards to keeping HM's movements under wraps.

If they know anything about US justice, that's the last thing they would do. I'm sure they are not familiar with the system in Indonesia. I understand from our Australian posters that this would be the best course of action for them in the long run based on Indonesian justice, admit to a terrible accident during a fight, say they panicked and show a lot of remorse for what they eventually did during their panic, but there is no way they would know that. As far as they know, an American lawyer told them not to say anything until he gets there, which is the norm in the US. He is still not there. Not sure at this point whether HM or TS are ever going to be told one way or another if he ever will be or be allowed to speak with him again if he does not show up in person. Even if he does, are they required to allow them to speak with him?

I wonder if HM had a "pick me" escort business going on on the side like TS???

BBM - Just guessing ...

Since LE already have TS' fingerprints on murder weapon/suitcase, have his movements w/the silver suitcase on CCTV and have paraded him out in orange jumpsuit and cuffs, I think LE have since put the squeeze on HM. JMO

I think LE needs more info to understand/have proof/hear confession of her exact actions/involvement. So they are slowing making her life more uncomfortable from eating decent fast food to rice & ?; to isolation/suicide watch - probably regularly disrupting her sleep; to limited/no contact w/US attny; no contact at all w/TS; LE probably cut out the limited TV privileges; etc

I think LE have also been reinforcing the squeeze w/the release of very selective info printed in local/Jakarta English newspaper which they allow her to read; etc

All JMO

ETA: 'This is a transition period for her.' said the chief of police. :giggle:

I'm sure it will be transitional. Heather might learn for the first time that if she hits people, they are going to hit her back until she knows better than to do it again. If she has a tantrum, she will probably be put in isolation until she controls her temper. All the things her mother taught her in a gentle way, she's now going to learn the hard way.

I personally hope it takes no less than several hundred lessons

My dear Mother used to tell me she was always right in all her warnings of what not to do.
Years later...Darn if she was, in fact, always right. She loved me. How I miss her now.

But let me add, there was definitely a time we drove each other crazy. No hitting or suitcases were involved.

She's also transitioning from KFC to rice...

I figure she's probably getting plenty of vegetables and fruits. I'd guess there's lots of fish there too.
However, rice is a staple. Hope she likes rice, or do I hope that.

Being curious, I ran a search for Bali foods. The site I found makes me think there are some tasty dishes there.

What's funny is at the very end of the article it says, "Bali offers you plenty of Mexican, Continental and Italian cuisines too, in addition to the McDonalds, KFCs."

I'm trying to understand the money trail. The lawsuit was filed in 2001. It was settled in 2006, the same year that James Mack died. In 2005 and 2006, he was probably anticipating the settlement, and took out mortgages on the property for $384,000. Sheila received $340,000 in the Will, but that was not enough to cover the mortgage debt. If she and her husband had taken almost $400,000 out of the value of the property in two years, they were probably living the high life for those two years. Five years later, 2011, she was paid the remaining $500,000 from the estate as the sole beneficiary.

If the spending habits of 2005-06 continued through 2007-08, then the house would have been fully mortgaged two years after his death. The $340,000 in the Will would have covered another two years of living with those same spending habits, taking them to 2010. At that time, the house value and the $340,000 would be gone. In 2011, the remaining $500,000 was given to Sheila. In 2013 the house was sold and an apartment was purchased (probably with a mortgage). With spending habits of $150-200k annually, I doubt that there was much left of the estate in 2014. It's also possible that Sheila cut back her expenses, but given the hotel in Bali (rooms from $500-$8000 per night), I doubt it.

"Around $500,000 of the money went to her husband's estate and was designated for their daughter through an earlier will. But in 2011, a judge allowed Ms von Weise-Mack to pay herself the $500,000 as the estate's 'sole beneficiary', meaning the money did not go to her daughter and suspected killer, Heather Mack."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2730590/Police-Room-disagreement-preceded-Bali-killing.html

"But in June 2011, a judge authorized von Wiese-Mack, the executor of her husband’s estate, to pay herself the remaining $500,000 as the estate’s “sole beneficiary.” ... Two years after the settlement, a pair of banks released outstanding mortgages totaling $384,000 on the upscale Oak Park home von Wiese-Mack shared with her daughter. The mortgages were taken out in 2005 and 2006, before James Mack died. ... Von Wiese-Mack eventually sold the Oak Park home last year for $650,000, Cook County records show, and moved to a Chicago high-rise."

"Sheila von Wiese-Mack immediately netted $340,667 after legal fees for her share of the settlement, according to court records. But another $500,000 went to James Mack’s estate."

It's been reported that Sheila used points for her stay at the St. Regis. She may have had to use credit cards to cover daily expenses. I know it may seem strange, but maybe that was her way to cut back.

There is lots of good local food in Bali ... but not in jail. HM and TS are not in prison yet, but I doubt anyone is going all out to provide them with a well-rounded diet which includes fruits and veg and fish. My guess is that they will be eating rice with perhaps a little bok choy in it - something picked up/dropped off from a local vendor. Same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is not a wealthy country with lots of money to spend on meals for inmates .. or trained staff to cook for them.

When you look at pics of prisoners there, they are all thin, no Big Bubbas there. I'm sure a healthy diet of illegal drugs and rice keeps them skinny. Except for the ones that have family to bring them food.

The fast food initially offered was probably to befriend them imo .. get them talking. But that didn't work, so I can't see any nicities being offered at all now.

And it will only get worse, if they don't have cash to spend or family to provide for them ....

He's just spent one year in Kerobokan prison, eating handfuls of rice at meal times, and bunking down shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of Indonesians on concrete floors
http://www.news.com.au/travel/trave...of-a-bali-prison/story-fnizu68q-1226682658853

The untreated water is fetched from a dilapidated well in the prison compound. Corby's family says the jail food is inedible. It comes around on a big cart - a bucket of rice which her family says regularly contains stones, dirt and sticks, and a pot of some kind of stew. The pot is encrusted with drying and rotting food." - Herald Sun
http://www.schapelle.net/kerobokan.html

While cash-rich prisoners lived it up, penniless ones existed in squalor with not even enough room to stretch out for sleep, and pebble-hard rice to eat, Bonella recounted in her book.

Hi SouthAussie! You're right. As I continued my searches about Bali prison food, I found some disgusting reports of rotting foods and unsanitary practices. Me, germ phobias and fussy eater here. There is no doubt in my mind, I would absolutely hate it. I'll pass on the Lawar too.

Lawar traditionally chop up strips of turtle or mango or coconut, add various spices and mix it with uncooked blood, so that it is red.

Thinking about the tv show "Orange the New Black" and the episode when Piper still a newbie happens to complain to Red, fellow prisoner and the head of the kitchen, about the food. Nobody dares serve her any food after that until Red finally says so. Love that tv series.

Hi Curious Me :seeya: We don't get that TV show here ... will have to Google it. :)

Many do get Bali Belly though .. when visiting Bali ... yep, there is even a name for it, it is so prevalent.

Other names for traveller’s diarrhoea include Montezuma's revenge, Bali belly and the Rangoon runs.
The risk of traveller’s diarrhoea is higher where sanitation and hygiene standards are poor, such as in the developing nations of Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
