"Elkin said he has appointed a local Indonesian attorney to take the case and has aides on the island doing investigative work to help in her defence. Neither Heather nor Schaefer have yet been charged.
He said he has scrapped immediate plans to go to Bali because sources on the ground there have told him that he could be detained himself because of allegations he made that Heather had been sexually assaulted while in prison.
'It was completely my intention to go,' he said. 'But when my sources started telling me the authorities had the intention of detaining me I changed my mind."

This is all my own opinion, and is meant to express my impatience with this attorney. If this is for free publicity, I have to question who would want to put their life in this guy's hands.

I was trying to understand the PLAN that these two had. My impression is that they decided to murder mom and take off with the credit cards and money (if there was access to bank accounts). The plan was on track with the boyfriend arriving towards the end of the vacation, murdering mom, putting her into the suitcase, taking the luggage to a taxi, and then everything went wrong. They needed their passports and access to whatever else was in the safety deposit box. Without the passports, they couldn't leave the country. I have to wonder why they didn't take the taxi anyway and put the suitcase in a river, or the jungle ... somewhere that it could not be found.

What stopped them from leaving the hotel with the luggage at that point ... other than to sneak out the back way? Why didn't they simply take the taxi to another hotel, claim that there was an argument so they left ... explain that they couldn't get their passports because mom was controlling, apply for new passports, hide the suitcase, and carry on? What they did is put mom in a suitcase and pretty much deliver her to the police. Surely they knew that the taxi driver would eventually look in the suitcase, or take it to the police.

I'm doing the same thing trying to figure out how it was a premeditated plan. It's not like all Sheila's money and estate would immediately go to Heather within a few weeks, even if the murder was committed by an armed gang. Surely, even these two immature brains knew that getting their hands on the big money would take a long time.

TS was talking about not coming back to the US, and HM was after getting some money, but the use of some credit cards, travelers checks, and trying to tap into Sheila's accounts is a silly plan to get real money, SWM's estate, without getting caught. I keep asking myself why they would want to do this in a foreign place, and certainly why the plan was so poorly thought out that they got caught so fast. Plus, HM is pregnant...why would she want to move out of the country with TS away from the familiar? A girl usually needs her mother when she's pregnant, but HM wants the money as per her own words. I could go round and round, on and on, and I do it so much I'm dizzy. Just trying to see how this was a premeditated plan.

I find what everyone has to say here so valuable in trying to understand this case. If these two had a plan then all I'm saying is it makes little sense to me.

She smokes with her right hand so I'm guessing she's right handed. Can't find the pic of TS smoking but he had a rubber bracelet on his left arm so I'm guessing right handed for him as well.

FWIW, I don't see anything planned about the murder at all. I believe there was a heated out of control argument which culminated with someone hitting Sheila in the head/face with a heavy object, and some really stupid moves in the ensuing panic after she died, but I don't see this as being premeditated at all. Callous and cold hearted in dealing with the aftermath, yeah I see that. I don't think HM was particularly upset about what happened as far as the loss of her mother was concerned. I think she automatically went into self preservation mode. I guess they both did.

We need Gitana in here to decipher this. Left in trust with no beneficiary but with the intent to provide for a minor child? Who is no longer a minor? And her brother as executor. So what will his role in all this be? Will he turn it all over to the niece who was involved in the death of his sister for her defense? Will Mr Elkin be jumping in there on HM's behalf to get the money for her?

HM was supposedly nearly two months pregnant and TS presumably showed up, half way around the world, for a little visit and as a possible surprise to SWM = HM & TS must have had some kind of plan. JMO

??? Did HM & TS plan on telling SWM they were expecting a child, getting married on Bali and immediately going on their honeymoon expecting SWM's blessings and a "here honey, take my credit card"??

But, SWM responded with an "oh NO" and a "NOT what it do", finger snap-snap, and all heck broke out???

Hm, I always interpreted that as being a broken fingernail on the victim's left hand, since the context was defensive wounds.

Hmm...I don't know. I took that as being another "defensive" type injury to SWM. But I see what you mean about scars to her forearms and someone's fingernail. Just not sure they'd be talking about found evidence at he same time as autopsy results. Unless they are suggesting the fingernail was found embedded in SWM's arm?

Did we ever determine when the first time TS mentioned going to Bali was? Was it after SWM and HM had already left? It must have been a sudden idea for him because he paid $200 to expedite his passport. Would that be a 48hr turn around? I really don't think he planned on going to Bali until after HM had already arrived there.

He posted on Aug. 5 that he'd spent $200 to expedite just to have it not "be here". IMO he expected to leave Aug. 4 but couldn't w/o the passport, so he had to delay and leave after HM and her mother.
