Doesn't the second photo look like the same distinctive pool shape as in the first photo?

If so, W Retreat & Spa (also a Starwood Hotel) in Seminyak may have been SWM & HM's first hotel on Bali from 8/4 - 8/9.

Hard to say 'cause I can't see any of the cabanas. There's also a path down to the beach that I can't see on the second photo. Maybe the first photo taken higher up?

Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia [baˈhasa.indoneˈsia]) is the official language of Indonesia. It is a standardized register of Malay, an Austronesian language which has been used as a lingua franca in the Indonesian archipelago for centuries. Most Indonesians also speak one of more than 700 indigenous languages.

Here's the tv station

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TvOne_(Indonesia)

Here's a similar video which includes: what looks like an interview with the taxi driver (w/red baseball cap); and, shows the room 616 placard with LE yellow tape.

Anyone speak the language? If so, is there anything said that hasn't been reported in English language sources? TIA

Do you see CC on the youtube player? What does it say if you hit it? On my computer, it says Portuguese subtitles.

Yes - if I choose "Subtitles/CC" I believe it's asking me if I want to see subtitles in Portuguese but I could be misunderstanding that whole option.

ETA: Choosing the option to "ON" opens a new little window where one can choose the language of their choice. Will try it a see if anything makes sense.

ETA: :dunno: Doesn't make sense to me. Maybe someone else will have some luck with it.

I think it's translating it into Portuguese. lol We could send the bat signal out to any folks who speak Portuguese. :)

I guess it really sums up HM's complete lack of reality and her expectations for how she thinks she should be treated when she complained about the police feeding her Kentucky Fried Chicken. Seriously? She just brutally killed her mother and she honestly complained that being fed KFC was racist! It really shows a lot about her and how she thinks. She surely has a harsh reality awaiting her.

I think their take on it is that drugs harm many, many people.

"Group 1 drugs are viewed by the Indonesian government as therapeutically useless with a high potential for causing addiction. Group 1 drugs merit the weightiest sentences - life imprisonment for possession, and the death penalty for convicted drug traffickers."

http://goseasia.about.com/od/indonesia/a/Drug-Laws-In-Bali-And-The-Rest-Of-Indonesia.htm

I always thought they took strong offence to drug transporting through airports because they don't want to be seen as some weak country - that all the tourist westerners feel they can take advantage of... & that it's more to do with pride for their country than anything.
Since one person isn't going to be able to smuggle that much in on their body or suitcase compared to the actual shipments hidden in concrete blocks & things. & if people are addicts, or want to try some drugs they'll find some way to take them. Marijuana cannot even kill a person - I swear to god they take it as a complete offence against their country - as if tourists just think they can casually walk even the mildest drug through their airport - hence the OTT harsh sentences for that.
Makes more sense to me ....since everyone seems to get away with more by paying bribes to get out of things there.

Someone yesterday asked about foreigners executed in Indonesia.

Wikipedia has an entry that lists the people executed in Indonesia in the Post-Suharto era. There were no executions in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011, or 2012.

Most of those executed appear to be Indonesian. Exceptions are the executions of Chaubey (from India) in 2004, Prasad (Thailand) 2004, Sirilak (Thailand) 2004, Okoye (Nigeria) 2008, Nwaliosa (Nigeria) 2008, Wilson (Malawi) 2013. Note that none of these people are from first world (read: rich tourist) countries. They are also quite likely all to be people of color.

The total number of people executed from 1999 to 2013 is 25. Their crimes are broken down into three categories: murder (16), drugs (6), terrorism (3).

It appears there can be a very long time between conviction and execution. Of the three murderers executed in 2013, one was convicted in 1991 (so 22 years from conviction to execution) and the other two were jointly convicted in 2003 (a decade from conviction to execution).

The Wikipedia article also claims that among those on death row in Indonesia are citizens of 18 different countries. Five of the countries represented (Australia, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, and the U.S.) would be seen by Indonesia as the source of rich tourists. Wikipedia also says of all foreign nationals currently on death row, all but one are there for drug offenses.

I don’t place wholesale trust in Wikipedia, but some sources and enough details are laid out that anyone who wanted to confirm the material could probably do so. See:

Interesting video about HM from the perspective of young neighbours who grew up with her and other friends. Didn't know she wanted to be an actress and move to LA.

I remembered this video with the young neighbors and wanted to see it again. Thank You Kamille.

The young neighbors grew up with Heather, and they do a good job of describing her and the situation. The other young man downtown is the only one that says Heather was nice and never had any problems, but he barely seemed to know her.

HM and TS both had such big dreams of making it as stars. Hard to believe Heather wanted to be an actress when upon arrest she couldn't fake a few basic emotions. Furrow brow, wipe near eyes, pretend sadness, something! Fake being human, at least!

I am sure that you are correct with regard to smuggling and transportation of drugs.

They are equally as harsh on their own citizens who are caught with personal amounts of drugs though. Look at Schapelle Corby's local boyfriend who was arrested last week (not at the airport) .. he is up for a possible 12 year sentence for possession of a few grams of cannabis.

And the girl we spoke about earlier in the threads who spent 10 months in jail for being found with ½ a joint in her bag (not at the airport) .. and only got that light of a sentence because she was humble and apologetic, and immediately got a top Bali lawyer.

I think it is like Russian roulette with drugs there. Maybe you can get off with a bribe to a low-level police officer and it won't reach an arrest stage. Maybe you will get 12 years or more in prison.

Smuggling at the airport is a whole different ballgame imo.

the video is excellent.

At one point in the video her friend mentions that 'problems started in middle school when HM would have lots of 'boys' over to the house that stole from Mrs M and said directly to Mrs M that HM was his.(censored......bottom (audible)censored.)..ch -- not good thing to say to a mother. Imagine calling your daughter his ho? YIKES -- she was out of control for a very long time MOO

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...U-S-socialite-mother-Bali-help-boyfriend.html

" a police commander agreed the couple had rejected KFC when it was sent in to them at their separate police station cells - he is in Denpasar and she is in South Kuta - but said police did not intend to insult them with food that black people would reject on cultural grounds.

'They are Americans. We thought we would give them some American food and they would be grateful,' said the Commander Djoko Hariutomo. 'So today they are eating rice-based local food.'

Hope they enjoy their rice. It will probably become a majority of what they will be eating. I bet they will soon grow tired of it and WISH they had KFC and McDonalds. I can't even begin to understand how they were insulted by KFC and McD. I am sure their displeasure had more to do with their lofty expectations as liking to pose as high class people used to the finest. Did they expect that meals would be catered affairs?

Just noticed this detail in the initial reports about the crime … sounds as if HM possibly agreed to using the first Bali lawyer assigned to her - and maybe agreed to searches and forensic testing, or acknowledged that items belonged to her/her mum (or whatever the investigating documents were) - while TS did not.

Mack signed investigating documents and a letter of lawyer's assignment after Wednesday's questioning while Schaefer refused, saying he wanted to wait for his lawyer to arrive from America, Sihombing said.
