As per passport (IMO this is the hotel's photocopy - shows the two room numbers):

Interesting to note that it appears the hotel cancelled out the room she was staying in with her mother and changed it to the room that TS was staying in? So neither of them had any business being in Sheila's room if HM had officially changed rooms at the reception desk? Maybe SWM didn't secure that room for TS, maybe he did have a credit card of his own to hold the room but no credit left on it to pay for the room?

Cheers PrimeSuspect - I remember that case and thinking that the guy had basically gotten away with murder. To me he came across as facetious...but not to go to far O/T I was just wondering if there were any other cases? I guess it would be difficult in many regards to the conviction without all of the evidence, etc. Then there would be the possibility of contamination if taken by another country that doesn't follow the same processes, etc. The defence lawyers would have too much to play with in that regard.

Still wondering if Gary Giordano would be charged and prosecuted for the murder of Robyn Gardner if more evidence were to come to light that he planned to kill her in Aruba. Not sure what is happening with the lawsuit against him by Amex regarding the insurance he took out on her. Wondering if that case will shake anything loose?

Is it possible HM and TS feel they're not in serious trouble yet because they haven't been "charged?" Do they believe they can wait out this "suspicion" and be released for lack of evidence? Sounds like they may have gotten some unfortunate legal advice!

It's awfully quiet over there ... I hope someone is talking! JMO

* * *

I've got to imagine the Indonesian assigned attny and the US consulate representative each told both HM & TS how the Indonesian judicial system worked and gave their best advice as to how HM & TS should proceed.

Whether or not HM & TS listened/believed/etc what they were told is an entirely different issue - from what we've read about HM, it seems she didn't believe rules applied to her and TS sounded racially confused/angry ...

ETA: ... and, further, to the exclusion of common sense, personal responsibility and hindering critical thinking. JMO

Just as with the K*F*C racially charged debacle brought on by HM, TS and/or Attny E, I don't think the Bali LE nor the firing squad care one iota about the color of his/their skin. JMO and squat, squat! :guitar:  :rocker:

I agree with your summary - I dont think she realized a lot of things.
From the planning of her boyfriend coming to Bali and him staying in the same Hotel - to the murder, the disposal of the body, and the escape plan which was ludicrous, the accusations of sexual assault and having needle marks without her knowledge, to the KFC shun and demanding not to speak until she has her US Lawyer/representative present...
When this does hit home to her, I wouldn't be surprised if she blames everyone else but herself - has an excuse for everything that has happened (and especially everything that has happened to her) then tries the innocent girl act, throws some sweetness around, acting dumb, while trying to throw her boyfriend under the bus, work out how to 'buy' her way out of there and work the system and the people in it.

I think (as you said) she doesn't believe the rules apply to her.

It must be sour hour - best for me to go :offtobed:

Well funny her destiny was in Bali as she can spend the next 50 years thinking the rules don't apply to her while living in her hamster tubes.

I can't help but wonder if they are aware of how extensive the surveillance and security systems apparently are at this high end hotel and that their every move, including hiding suitcases in the gardens, has likely been caught on video. Everything but the actual murder itself.

Although they may understand this now, they know there is nothing they can say that would make any sense about the movements caught on tape that would make them appear innocent, especially if they cant corroborate their stories. There is nothing to explain the movements other than the truth, which westerners just don't give up when they are guilty and being interrogated by LE. They always remain silent and take their chances with a jury unless its 100 percent certain there will be a conviction, after seeing all the evidence against them. Then they plea deal for a lesser sentence. I think our system needs an overhaul. And I think these two just can't comprehend the difference between our system and theirs.

I'm interested in how the pregnancy played into all of this. Is the baby his? Was it planned? Was it some sort of leverage against Sheila? Was she going to get rid of it when she got back? Did Sheila want her to get rid of it? We will never know I suppose. I hope he gets a DNA test.

All good questions. I'd add another: Was the baby some sort of leverage against Tommy? Heather would not be the first besotted teenager to think a baby would cement her relationship with a man.

BTW, I think the hidden blunt is behind his right ear. That is my guess anyway.

I keep wondering about who owned the taxi and how it must have impacted them by having the car impounded as evidence.

Anybody hear anything lately?

Funny how quiet it's been since the US attorney shut up. Seems like he just "slunk" away.
In his great concern and worry for HM, possibly he did more than cause a media flurry?
I guess it's too much to ask that he send any of his own personal money for her to get good water.

How I'd love to hear some updates on how the jail thing is going for her and TS.

I'm finding zip, zilch, nada. I'd also like to know how the "transition" is going for them.

Haven't seen anything for a while from this end of the world .. but we're keeping our eyes open watching and waiting. It has been 3½ weeks since the arrest .. charges should happen soonish .. though sometimes it seems to take up to 2 months to get to court for that.

Only news out of Bali for us is a surfer who is missing there (Peter Maynard) - and another surfer (Geoff Moase, a surfboard maker) who has died in a surfing incident there. Both experienced middle-age surfers. No-one knows what happened to the first guy .. he is just missing, one of his surfboards is missing, and one set of surf clothes is missing. We also lost another surfer there last month, a teacher, Peter Luke.

This is the huge surf they go there for.

Here is a case of an American charged with murder of his American wife while on honeymoon in Australia. This case was big news in Australia at the time, Watson was able to return to America on the proviso if found guilty there, he would not receive the death penalty.

Gabe Watson, 34, served 18 months in an Australian jail after pleading guilty to failing to do enough to help his 26-year-old wife during the dive.

He was tried for murder in Birmingham, Alabama, because that was where the couple married and prosecutors say he plotted Tina's death.

Alabama authorities agreed to waive the death penalty in order to get Australian authorities to release Watson back to the United States, meaning he would have faced a maximum lifetime prison sentence had he been convicted.

Yup. That's the one and only case I know of. I think the authorities were so insencensed that Australia pretty much allowed him to get away with murder (1.5) year sentence, ultimately, for manslaughter), that they decided they'd have to act I keep him ffrom getting away with it. but the judge here dismissed the charges and he got away with it again.

I keep wondering about who owned the taxi and how it must have impacted them by having the car impounded as evidence.

You are a particularly sensitive and kind person to think about this man and how this case has affected him. The ripple affects are huge. I never gave that poor man a thought.

I think Mr Big Mouth shut up once he realised he won't be getting any money for counsel and also when he realised that his moronic comments were only serving to hurt Heather further. He was most likely advised by a local lawyer there to shut up.

I agree that Gabe Watson got away with it...as much as our law enforcement might do a good job at solving crimes, this case and another I am aware of where it is obvious they have gotten away with murder have astounded me. I also find that we have inadequate sentencing for serious crime and repeat offenders but that is a whole other argument for another day.

I also honestly don't think we are going to hear all that much about HM and TS unless they either decide to talk or go to trial. We didn't hear all that much (other than our own media sensationalism) about Schapelle until her eventual trial. There was a lot of coverage about her as she was waiting for trial in our media - some scathing media reports criticising Bali which didn't help, not to mention her loud mouth family making it worse for her as well but I don't remember there being all that much on the Bali side. I could be wrong about this though.
