i think once the Bali trial is done, then the Illinois or US prosecutors can work charges against her and/or WW can sue HM for the wrongful death of Sheila. Hopefully charges in the US can effectively deny her the right to inherit but if not the wrongful death lawsuit might just take all that money away from HM. Not sure how baby Stella will play into this.

I think HM will get 9 months, most of which will have already been served by the time the verdict comes down. TS will probably get about 6 years or less (can't remember what the lowest charge and penalty is for an accident during an argument  )

HM will return to the U.S. but the evidence in this case will not. Therefore there is nothing that any US LE agency can do to touch her regarding the death of her mother. The only proof of what happened will be conveniently disposed of in Indonesia thanks to a $150,000 "lawyer fee". Do you really think they're going to turn over those phones and the surveillance video to the FBI if they let her off of premeditated murder?

HM knows this IMO and is already trying to rewrite history on this case via her connection to the news women in Chicago she is corresponding with. She will deny everything that has been printed about her and this case and cite lack of evidence for her reason. She'll claim she was being set up, the texts didn't exist and neither did the surveillance footage. Plus the corrupt Bali reporters were printing lies. This is not at all they way they made it out to be doncha know?

IF HM gets off with a short prison penalty, would she likely have a parole period where she would have to remain on Bali, similar to the Aussie Shappel (sp?)? TIA

I think HM will be out by year's end. If she's found guilty of anything, it will be for the charge that carries a 9-month penalty - and she might get off with time served. With such a light sentence, I don't think she'll be put on parole. Leeza Ormsby wasn't (drugs, ten month sentence).

I think TS will get 6-10 years.

HM could probably stay on in Bali indefinitely by extending her tourist visa every 60 days - assuming the authorities would let her. They very well may if she's only convicted of a minor offense - and has the money and the connection, Soenardi, to grease the appropriate palms. I can't see US authorities trying to extradite her for possible prosecution, particularly when, as Kamille noted, the evidence is currently in Bali and will likely be returned to HM on release.

I'm not sure she'll be in trouble when she comes back. SS can and should make her pay back the benefits she illegally collected when she wasn't in school, but that's minor. If she's not convicted of her mother's death (and she won't be), then I don't see how the 'slayer statute' can be used to prevent her from accessing her trust. WW could bring a civil suit (like the Browns did against OJ Simpson) - but the evidence is in Bali and legally hopelessly tainted - unless the FBI agent got something that would hold up in court, and I'm skeptical of that.

I think TS is stuck with whatever he gets. He hasn't got the money for an appeal and once HM is free, the trustee is going to be able to keep closer tabs on her spending. She's just not going to be able to 'hide' the kind of money it would take to fund a corrupt appeal for TS.

Bugbear, I think the $150K cap was only for Soenardi's fees. Favia's money grab was denied because technically, she's got nothing to do with HM or TS, she's representing Stella, and right now, Stella doesn't have any money of her own to pay Favia. Poor Favia. Almost $100K has also gone to Scifo, the attorney who's handling HM's trust fund requests. No idea what is going on with Elkin, but HM originally agreed to pay him $150K - and that figure did not include the fees of her Bali attorney.

Gracehatter, you posed the question: what do you think?

They will appear next week with the Prosecution addressing the Defense statements made this week. One that came to mind and I had wondered was that the Judges were told to disregard the text messages as they could be manipulated? That was a pretty good indication it was premeditated, I am curious as to how the Prosecution plays out next week. It will have a great impact closing up on this trial. :jail:

Depending on the quality of the reporting, we may have an indication of how well Soenardi has paid the prosecution.

So basically AS will spend a couple of hours in court giving his version of things after having read the indictment and spoken with his client. Then the prosecution tells their side based on the indictment. Then it goes to the judges for a final verdict. All told, AS put in about 20 hours worth of "work". For that a US judge has released $119,000 so far.

Shameful :notgood:

Okay …. I’ll be the optimistic one.

Heather will get at least 6-10 years. Blind Nelly can see that she did nothing to help her mother, was not afraid of the ‘murderer’, assisted the murderer (even if it was ‘only’ helping to stuff her mother in a suitcase and conceal her death), failed to report the crime, could easily have saved Sheila from ‘harming’ her unborn child by removing herself from the situation and alerting authorities.

Still too many things she is glaringly guilty of to be able to completely circumvent the legal system. After all, they do not want to be seen as obviously having taken bribes.

Tommy … well, he’ll avoid the firing squad … with 15-20 years slotted in for enjoyment in Kerobokan.

And Ary-Ray will say “I think I will advise them not to appeal, because they were very lucky to not have received the death penalty”, and trot off to buy himself a new house (or maybe even a real office somewhere).

"She squeezed my neck for about 20 to 30 seconds so I couldn't see because my eyes were watering," Mr Schaefer said on Thursday, describing through an interpreter the moments leading up to the murder.

"She wanted to reach for a bowl but I reached it before she did. I couldn't see so I just swung it."

So, how did he know she wanted to reach for a bowl if he couldn't see? :waitasec:

Maybe Heather was yelling "Watch out Tommy, she's reaching for a bowl, to your left, to your left, no further ... "

He said that the victim insulted him using a racial slur and described her daughter as a prostitute who liked a black man.
He said the situation got heated when von Wiese-Mack asked her daughter for an abortion or to kill the unborn baby. Schaefer said that led to a quarrel in which von Wiese-Mack strangled him hard for about 30 seconds.

This is his self-defense story now. Heather is going to keep claiming she wasn't even in the room, but she's going to back up his story. It was Sheila who attacked, and she was as strong as Hercules. Tommy almost lost his life. Sheila said all those racial remarks and was going to kill their baby. How gullible are those Judges? TS might not even get 10-15 yrs. if it they believe it was self-defense!

The real shame will be to not allow those premeditation texts in to prove they wanted Sheila dead way before this event. They had plans. This is crucial to the case. :sigh:

I agree with others saying HM could get off with time served, and TS get off light. There's corruption and bribery that can make this happen.

Sure, and it's insulting because these two are so obviously pro life.

I wonder how much the Indonesian cultural mores will play a part in the judgement following this trial.

Sheila called Tommy names and wanted Heather to get rid of the baby – it is shameful in Indonesia to be an unwed mother, and have a daughter who got herself pregnant when not married.

Sheila reacted violently to Tommy – an Indonesian mother would be very angry if some bloke got her daughter pregnant without having married her first.

Heather is carrying a ‘🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬’ child – this will not get her the sympathy that she wants.

It could be seen as understandable that Sheila was angry, and that the stupid kids should have taken her wrath, begged for her forgiveness …. not murdered her.

These are reasons why I wonder just how lightly Heather will get off. The court has to be seen to be doing the right thing, even if it is not fully doing the right thing ($$$).
(That is what past cases seem to have shown in their unequal justice system.)

At least, that is what I am hoping. :please:

Heather Mack Sobs as Boyfriend Testifies About Killing Her Mother :therethere:

Did someone hear or see some sobbing on that video?? Comments are piling up under this article.

http://www.people.com/article/heather-mack-breaks-down-boyfriends-testimony

Doesn't appear as though anyone outside of Chicago and here is aware of the money distributed to AS. I think these people commenting on these articles are in for a surprise when they see how little these two get in terms of punishment.

Neither the media nor posters on other sites seem to pay attention to TS's travel.

He arrived in Bali less than 48 hours before the Macks were scheduled to fly back to the US.

Really?

He flew all the way to Bali just so he could be there when HM told SWM about the baby?

When he knew they would be back in Chicago two days later?

Before I sleep tonight, I am going to pray very hard that there will be justice for Sheila. I will also pray that HM and TS will be punished and serve their remaining days here on Earth in an Indonesian prison cell. I just can't fathom anything less.

I'm wondering what HM's c-section is all about. I realize it's not an exact science, but it's two weeks before her anticipated birth date (assuming she told the truth to her doctors). I'm convinced she's working with Soenardi to schedule it for the optimum time, but I'm not sure why. It was originally going to take place last Friday, but now it's looking like the beginning of this week.

Did she just want to avoid the courtroom and even the prison after TS made his confession? Something else?

Well I'm going right ahead and be snarky, imo if there is no medical reason then she's afraid of labor and she can buy an extra day or two in the hospital. We have an obgyn in the family and you'd be surprised how often there are requests for c-sections. Sometimes on special dates (one lady timed her pregnancies so all three of her children's birthdays are on the same day). If there is no emergency try for regular delivery. I hope she gets a big fat vertical scar. I zip past the pictures now I just can't stand looking at her. Jmo

ciao
