Baltimore, MD - Container Ship Strikes Francis Scott Key Bridge - Mass Casualty Situation

  • #61
I guess the true extent of this disaster won’t be known for quite a few hours yet - possibly not until loved ones realise that somebody is missing.

There are likely traffic cams that capture licence plates, so I expect they will know fairly quickly the number of vehicles that are unaccounted for and to whom they are registered.

Yeah I think they've got a good idea how many vehicles went in. The question will be how many occupants were in each, plus there seems to be confusion about the number of workers who were on the road crew doing repairs on the bridge. I hope the works payroll will be able to clear the latter up quickly.

Port of baltimore is closed.
You sure? I thought it was open for truck traffic.
The shipping lanes are closed but the POB is not closed ,you just can barely make to there. However its a fast paced live breaking news event and we might get any news until officials start complaining about the internet detectives, the media ,you tubers , conspiracy and and the opposing political agenda's .
IMO .

An unclassified Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency report said the container ship Dali "lost propulsion" as it was leaving port and warned Maryland officials of a possible collision.

The crew notified officials that they had lost control, the report said.

"The vessel notified MD Department of Transportation (MDOT) that they had lost control of the vessel and an allision with the bridge was possible," the report said. "The vessel struck the bridge causing a complete collapse."

The owners and managers of the cargo ship Dali, a Singapore-flagged vessel, said all crew members had been accounted for following the crash.

“All crew members, including the two pilots have been accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries,” Synergy Marine Group said in a statement.

It's being reported that roads are closed. I don't know that trucks could get through right now.

Truck traffic?

It was reported on the news that the port was closed.
If cargo ships can’t get there whats to pickup?

Initial reports indicate that at least a dozen cars hit the 47 degree water in addition to a 20 or so construction workers who were working on the bridge at the time. The workers were pouring concrete on to the bridge at the time of crash.

I believe this is could be the container ship that struck the bridge:

The current position of DALI is at US East Coast reported 0 min ago by AIS. The vessel is en route to BALTIMORE-COLOMBO, and expected to arrive there on Apr 22, 11:30. The vessel DALI (IMO 9697428, MMSI 563004200) is a Container Ship built in 2015 (9 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Singapore.

thanks for this. The itinerary lets us see where it has been and where it was going....

and why was the port call such a long period?? Longer than any other of it port calls.

Until they get that bridge out of the river these will be canceled or routed to another location.

There’s a carnival cruise out now, not sure where it will return to.

I first thought of the Big Bayou Canot railway bridge disaster.

Though that one was down to human error and flawed bridge design.

The lights going on and off makes me think this was a mechanical failure, possibly with an electrical fire. I do hope that it wasn't completely avoidable.

Yes!
Those cars might have dash cams as well . I hope anyway,

I have been on that bridge but its been a while so I cant remember how the toll lanes operate ,but as a person who has been caught up in Maryland toll issues / VA/DC got pictures of other peoples cars ,with not my tags but my everything else . So I would not rely on that system to properly verify those plates without another way to confirm that persons plates are that person. Otherwise it could be awful for people who are waiting for answers to get incorrect ones.

Yeah, it isn't just about the road being cut, it's about the tonnes of twisted steel blocking access across the entire width of the harbour. It's not going to be safe for any shipping, or even small boats, until that is meticulously mapped and cleared, piece by piece. It's a monumental task facing the people of Baltimore.

You don’t stop to pay, it’s EZ-pass now. Or tag reader if no EZ-pass.
So yes they should know who went south but not sure about going north as tag reader would be on north side.

Chadonne Grant, an overnight security officer at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, said Tuesday morning that the hospital had admitted several patients involved with the collapse. She didn’t know how many — “not a lot” — but said they were brought in by helicopter about 2:30 a.m. or 3 a.m.
