Officers at Paisley are re-appealing for the assistance of the public to help trace 40-year-old Barry McCullagh, who was last seen around 5.20pm on Wednesday, 5 October.

Barry, who lives in Castlemilk was last seen near to the Royal Alexandra Hospital on Corsebar Road, Paisley.

He is described as 5 ft 9 ins in height and of medium build with short, black hair. He was wearing black and navy jogging trousers, a black jacket, and grey and white trainers.

Sergeant Will Thomson from Paisley Police Station said: “Despite a previous appeal and a number of enquiries, we have not yet been able to trace Barry. We have issued a CCTV image of him from Wednesday afternoon and I hope that people who remember seeing him will get in touch with police.

“It is totally out of character for his not to keep in contact with his family and friends and as time passes, we are becoming very concerned for his safety and wellbeing. Searches are continuing and officers are being assisted by specialist search advisors to trace him as soon as possible.

“I would urge anyone who has seen him since Wednesday afternoon, or anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact officers through 101 with reference number 3910 of 5 October.”

The mother of a man who has been missing for more than a month has made a plea on social media for taxi drivers to look out for him.

Barry McCullagh, from Castlemilk, was last seen on Corsebar Road in Paisley, near the Royal Alexandra Hospital, at around 5.20pm on October 5.

His family previously told STV News that the 40-year-old dad-of-two was admitted to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley on October 4, after he began to experience hallucinations.

He had been let out for a cigarette when he disappeared the next day.

On Sunday, Barry’s mother made a plea on social media for taxi drivers to keep an eye out for him – and if they are approached by him, to bring him home.

Posting on Facebook, Liz McCullagh wrote: “Our son Barry McCullagh has now been missing since October 5 outside the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he was a patient and was getting treated for mental health issues.

“Went out for a smoke around 5.25pm on that day unsupervised and didn’t return so if anyone has seen him, or befriend him, or know his whereabouts please contact the Paisley police station or any of our family on Facebook of his whereabouts and we will come and get him.”

She asked local taxi drivers on Bonfire Night, a night her son “loved”, to keep an eye out for Barry.

“To all taxi drivers, if you are approached by someone who looks like my son, he will be dirty looking, unshaven and his hair will be needing a haircut and his clothes will be smelly,” she wrote “Please let him in your taxi if approached and bring him to Ballantay Road, Castlemilk, and we will pay this end no problem as he has no money and no phone.

“No jacket at the time of his disappearance so please help to bring our son home to his family and his two sons.”

Family's agony over disappearance of Castlemilk man Barry McCullagh

The distraught family of a Glasgow man missing for six weeks say their lives have been torn apart as they desperately try to find answers to explain his disappearance.

His sister Stacey has told how family members are now conducting their own daily searches for the 41-year-old - and believe that someone holds key information on his whereabouts.

It’s the second tragedy to hit the family in a short space of time after sibling Brian, 42, passed away last month - just 13 days after his brother vanished.

Stacey, 38, exclusively told the Glasgow Times: “We are heartbroken. We just want Barry to come home safe and well.

"Someone must know something. It’s impossible for a person to just vanish from the face of the earth without any trace.

“We lost our brother Brian after his health suddenly deteriorated. He passed away less than two weeks after Barry's disappearance.

"We need him home so that we can grieve together as a family. We never imagined we’d be in this situation and we are all struggling to cope.

“I can’t eat or sleep for worrying that something awful has happened to him or where he could be. I don’t know if he’s lying somewhere injured or in a vulnerable state. The uncertainty is tearing me apart.

“Every time the phone rings we are hoping it’s him or someone with good news. It’s getting harder and harder for us to stay positive as the days and weeks go by."

The family of a man who disappeared in Paisley may turn their search to Saltcoats after a medium suggested he could have gone to his childhood haunts.

Barry McCullagh went missing from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the town on Wednesday, October 5, days after he suffered a seizure and began hallucinating.

Yesterday, his heartbroken family marked 100 days of anguish at not knowing what has happened to their beloved son, brother and father.

Barry was last seen on CCTV walking along Lounsdale Road outside the Lord Lounsdale pub around 5.33pm on October 5.

The 41-year-old – who had not been in his right mind at the time of his disappearance – was allowed out of the RAH at 5.20pm to have a cigarette but never returned.

He has since missed the passing of his brother Brian and the birth of his nephew Luca.

His sister Stacey told the Paisley Daily Express: “Going into the new year, we are just hoping that we hear something. It’s the not knowing that is the worst.

“My mum and I went to see a medium who came through and said he went to Troon.

“That was just before Christmas. I have been looking into that because Troon and Saltcoats, when we were younger, that is where we used to go for holidays.

“It holds a lot of happy memories for us. My mum has told the police about the reading.”

Stacey added: “She said he is still not of sound mind so that might explain it.

“I have added a Saltcoats community page on Facebook and we want to go down when the weather is a bit better to put posters up.”
