Beds & Bedrooms Revisited-Cummings MH

I have seen it said here, by many posters (I can't remember who said it and that's not important to my point anyway) that when someone lies there is always a bit of truth in it. I have to respectfully disagree. There might be, but most of the time there's not.

However, after listening to many suspects (who were later convicted of a crime) give interviews it is when they go into too much detail...it is when they take what should be a simple straight forward answer and apply such attention to detail to that part of their story or the details of that part of the story drift and change...that's a pretty good indication that the suspect or POI is not telling the truth.

That they have something to hide about that particular portion of their story. KWIM?

So that is one of the reasons I have concluded that the beds story is made up. It's not factual. Can I call it a lie, without gettin' in trouble? :)

A poster here (I don't remember which one has a tagline) it is a quote by Judge Judy but it's applicable here I think, it something along these lines:

"When something doesn't make sense, it's usually because it's not true".

Amen Judy.

That is not correct. The toddler mattress on the floor has been identified as Haleigh's bed from day one. The entire "reason" that Ron got the three bedroom MH was a farce to try to show that he had a room for each child. The three bedrooms were not used for the children. The bedframe in Haleigh's room should have held the toddler mattress on the floor of the master bedroom. It has always been portrayed that Jr. slept in the same bed as Ron and his underaged girlfriend.

I see two possible scenarios to explain the mattress on the floor seen on the walk through.

1) Jr's mattress was placed in the master bedroom to show the placement of HaLeigh's mattress for the benefit of those viewing the televised walk through.

2) PCSO, FDLE, and the FBI are lacking in investigative skills and showed complete incompetence by not taking into evidence the mattress and bedding where a child was reportedly abducted from.

The way this case has played out over the past 7 months makes it understandable why people may believe that scenario number 2 is a possibility, but I am holding out hope that scenario 1 is the more logical explanation.

Well if LE didnt take Haleighs mattress and bedding then they are totally incompetent IMO. I realize toddler mattress are plastic but there are seams etc and a way to test for different things even on plastic.

I was also putting it together that Crystal had stated the childrens beds were in a separate room - so to me that meant each had their own beds.

:) @ LaLaw. I know you are just asking a question in general no worries hun.

As for any of her clothes that may not be visible within the closet. They might be elsewhere in the room? Drawer? or elsewhere?

If she had a mattress on her bed I would suggest having a look under there also, LOL...just because of my kids and the massive amounts of carp they manage to cram under there...I'm just kiddin' with you :)

Hi, Kat!

Somehow I do not think the saphire blue little flower girl dress would be in a drawer. Nor the rose colored one.

There was not a mattress in her room, Kat. There was just the bedframe. Haleigh's little mattress was on the master bedroom floor, remember? Well, I suppose I cannot say for sure it was Haleigh's mattress at all. Could have been Jr.'s. For some reason, I just have the feeling that Haleigh's clothes (for the most part) were packed and taken from that home. It is just something I feel.

Oh, I know the capacity of underneath a childs/teens bed from having raised 3! LOL.

Is it possible that they were renting the other bedroom(s) out. I know young people that do this, have a three br, use 2 and rent the 3rd out. They need the extra money and they have kids too. I think it's a really bad idea but it helps them out. I imagine that the neighbors would have told on them by now if they were doing this.

I think the kids liked sleeping in the same room with the "grown-ups" because they are little children. I bet that some nights MC and both kids went to sleep in the big bed, sometimes the kids were on mattresses on the floor or were moved to their own beds when RC got home.

The house tour did not include Jr.'s room, the mattress on the floor was Jr.'s, it was placed there to show the relation to Haleigh's mattress to the bed that night. I think it was GGM that said it "well, that's Jr.s bed" - meaning mattress when pointing to it. I got that right away. Of course, LE took the mattress that the child vanished from. They aren't idiots.

Sounds to me like both of these poor children have sleeping problems. I can certainly see why they do. This was a chaotic, to say the least, household, IMO.

I think TN and GGMA just stuffed all the junk that was laying around into Jr's room. They were in a hurry to get the place ready for the show. I understand they were paid for the tour. They kept the camera crew out of the boy's room because it was full of clutter...just speculating.

I imagine they have their ways of taking samples without having to take apart the whole thing and they could use ultraviolet light or whatever that CSI thingy is that detects traces of bodily fluids.

Right thats why I am pretty sure LE took Haleighs mattress and after reading Dots post with regards to it being stated that it was Jrs mattress on the floor in one of the walk thrus - it pretty much confirms that they did take her mattress.

http://www.examiner.com/x-1168-Crime-Examiner~y2009m3d7-Video--Inside-Haleigh-Cummings-home

About a minute into the video:
The reporter: "The little girl's tiny mattress is just a few feet away from the bed that Misty Croslin slept the night Haleigh disappeared.".
AS says ""Misty slept there and Junior slept against the wall over there."

I thought she meant that Jr. slept against the wall in Misty's bed but if she means that Jr. slept on that toddler mattress near the door then it's yet another story of where everyone slept. :waitasec:

I think they maybe should have taken all the mattresses. Or maybe not, they may all be irrelevant if nobody slept anywhere.

Maybe they were still sleeping in the masterbed room, b.c RC & MC hadn't lived at that MH very long and the children were not probably not use to sleeping in their own rooms yet.

I had this problem with my son, when i had shared a room with him at my parents house, then he became a toddler and we shared my bed, big huge mistake, anyways, when he was 2 1/2 i moved out, into a two bed two bath apt, and it took my son a good three to four weeks to sleep through the night in his own bed.

We already know that HC was afraid of the dark.

I agree and think this as well, I have taken the most straight forward approach to an explanation in why the kids were sleeping in the Master Bdrm too dotseyes.

I admit my reasoning is based on the experience of having raised seven children, and it might not be the reason these children slept in the Master Bdrm.

It's the path of least resistance... LOL.

Instead of fuss and argue with a child at bedtime, just let them climb into any bed they wish. I can even understand letting them fall asleep to a movie ~ although I never did that because I was an older mother with the youngest four~ and knew that the movie would prolong the nightynight time LOL.

I also understand that MC was not the children's Mother but as a Mom (and my Husband when he was home) I (we) had let children sleep with us up until the age of about 3 or 4. Depending on their personality on how long they felt they needed to be that close to us. We never thought twice about it. Yes they had their own beds too.

I'm wondering when the last Family Services visit(before Haleigh's disappearance) was, and at that time was there a walk-through of the MH, with the appropriate number of beds?

I'm only concerned with IF a bed/mattress was missing since her disappearance.

Has Fla. Family Services addressed that publicly at all?

Sounds reasonable to me.
When I saw the tour, I was surprised how neat the place look. Nothing out of place, no toys or anything to indicate two little kids lived there.

Hi Kimmer:

ITA! I also thought it was odd that she chose to go to the bathroom outside of the masterbed room, when there was a bathroom staring her in the face. (in the same room)

If there was a leak or something in the bathroom that was joined with their bedroom that's a possibility. My two stepsons use the bathroom connected to our bedroom because we had the house leveled and it made a pipe connected to the toilet start leaking, we can't fix it until the house settles in three weeks

The mattress could be in the master bedroom because HC was scared to sleep in her own room. (i'll use my house as an example again) one of my step sons had strep throat and stayed with his dad while they other one came to our house so he wouldn't get sick. They share a room (like HC and JR did) but when our oldest was with us he was scared to sleep in the room by himself so we took his mattress off his bed and put it in our floor for him to sleep on while he was there. I'm 21 and my fiancee is 26, so we're young but if he's scared neither one of us are going to leave him in a room by himself to be scared.

IMO

That's hard to do, especially with two young kids. Even if they haven't been in the MH long. The first thing our boys did when we moved was pull out every single toy they could get their hands on and had them strung out all over their new playroom before we even had our beds put together. I don't know how many times I've organized their toys and they still seem to be all over the floor, on the couch, lego men are lined up in random places like counters and I found a Hulk action figure inside my pillowcase for protection one night.

But did you see the stack of dirty dishes in the sink and all the dirty clothes tied up and on top of the washer and drier. I would imagine Misty had not done her chores that night nor the previous 3 days and it looks like Ron didn't do any either. Dirty house does not indicate guilt, because 89% of American would be in the suspect pool.
ETA the other 11% need an attorney because they hired a maid to clean up and are pressumed innocent.

I truely think when DCPS came to check on the family, that everyone had a bed/mattress in all 3 bedrooms.........so why was their none in Haleighs room?
To me the bed next to the master bed looked like a youth mattress....like JR's??

and the blanket on the window always bothered me, where is it?
Did LE find it? Was it gone also?

Is the red blanket on the bed the one that was taken from the window?

Also Ron states to TM that the bed was made- but remember that Mistys blanket that was covering the bed was in the van that "they took" ..well if the bed was made why wouldn't Ron notice that the covering had been replaced and mention this.
