On 04 February 1990 around 3.50pm, the body of an unknown man was found by a lockkeeper in Lanaken, in the Briegden-Neerharen link canal, near the loading quay of the KNP on the left bank. At that time, the man was believed to have been dead for no more than 1 week.
The man was 40–50 years old and 1m68 tall. He was of normal build and had black hair, a full mustache, brown eyes and a round face. He had a tattoo with the inscription ‘Jeannine’ on the inside of his left wrist. Teeth are missing in both upper and lower jaw.

The man wore a blue jumper with light blue checks, a khaki-coloured shirt labelled ‘Jean Rive’ size 38, a grey/brown/yellow anorak, unbranded, size 176, blue cotton trousers of the brand ‘Veste’, grey/blue pants, blue socks with white checks on the inside of the foot and black moccasins size 42.

In his trouser pockets stuck: 2x 5 Belgian francs -1 x 1 Belgian franc, a packet of ‘Johnson’ brand tobacco - a packet of red ‘Rizla’ cigarette leaves and a light blue lighter. He also carried a white handkerchief with red and blue borders. The man's clothing was intact.

Official post with a video, pictures of the clothing and reconstruction of the face.

Sketch and clay sculpt

Nice bust. Not cartoonish or alien looking. I wonder why they didn't give him head hair, though? Some people who use clay sculpt it, others put on a wig.

Really good detail, though.

The picture of the tattoo at the link, it doesn't look like it's professionally done. Done by himself or a friend, or in prison, maybe. A poke job. My cousin has a black bar on his ankle. He tattooed his first girlfriend's name there when he was a teenager, probably using pen ink or something. Had to get it covered up when the relationship didn't last. That the name is still there means that maybe, it's this guy's sister, mother, kid, etc. The kind of relationship that lasts.

MOO

According to the site, the tattoo says Jeanine. I was unable to zoom the picture for some reason.

Tattoo here. Reads "Jeannine", but it doesn't seem like it was done professionally indeed.

Here is a video the police put out about the case (turn on closed captions and auto translate).

He looks a lot like Uri Tevel who went missing in 1988. Both shorter and small framed, big moustace, middle eastern appearance. Also I searched 'Jeannine Tevel' by chance and there was a lady who registered a business in Jan 89. All the addresses associated with both cases are within a few hundred km of eachother.

edit, I guess we aren't allowed to reference Unidentified Wiki?

Yes, indeed! I've already submitted him to the Federal Police as a potential match.
