BELIZE - Alison MacKenzie, 43, tourist, from AZ, Rendezvous Caye, 18 Jan 2020

Wonder why they would say it’s dangerous to be out walking around other than falling in the ocean and disappearing? I mean do they have pirates that go to the islands and kidnap people and disappear them? Just wondering. JMO

Common sense. Fall on something in the dark. Cut your leg open. Bleed out. Pirates? Rum runners. Drug runners.
Ya know? Who knows? Just be careful.
Not victim bashing.

It's pretty hard to imagine any kind of scenario in which she was assaulted. There were just too many people around and the island is too small. It's such a puzzle.

I agree, this is a puzzle. It's not as if there are woods nearby to search. Such a small island and the fact that Alison's sister said that she was afraid of water is indeed a mystery.

They may never know what happened and that only adds to their great loss.

My heart goes out to Alison's loved ones. May they hold one another close during this tragic and deeply saddening time.

I don't know but this might cause the tour company to lose $$$.
Pretty sure they don't want the death/disappearance of one of their clients. Makes them look bad.

FBI Offers Assistance in Alison Mackenzie Missing Case

[FBI Offers Assistance in Alison Mackenzie Missing Case]
The search for missing 43 year old American National, Alison MacKenzie, continues as she has been missing for four days. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has offered their assistance to Belizean authorities in the investigation of Mackenzie’s disappearance. Today, when we caught up with Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, he indicated that Belizean authorities welcome the help.

The FBI has offered help and Belize has accepted.
New to me was the police commissioner stating that there are watchman on the island and they have info that they are not releasing right now

This looks like a really fun thing to do pretty inexpensively but it obviously has the potential for danger and a higher level of personal responsibility than some people seem to realize. I can't imagine someone just deciding to up and do Ambien one night but it wouldn't be a good place to get drunk for the first time, which I CAN imagine someone doing.

Great article from a local News channel. Click on ‘American Woman Disappears on Rendevous Caye’ and it will take you mid page to the article. Video interviews too.

Voice of: Jodie Dixon
"Yes, because my sister didn't typically drink. We've been around each other our whole entire life and she was not a drinker. I don't know, she was on a cruise on vacation and to my knowledge I talk to the company and they serve like a run punch or something. At the end of the day I don't know. I wasn't there. It's not typical, like it doesn't say to me oh gosh she was drinking, it's just I don't know. I will say it's not like her to be intoxicated. Maybe have a drink, but to be intoxicated, I've never seen her drunk in my life. When I talk to Raggamuffin Tours there was a woman that I spoke to on the phone her name was Charlie and she told me that the captain of the tour was the last person to see my sister - that she was walking on the beach after everybody had gone to bed, which is not unusual. She is absolutely love the beach. She was afraid to swim in the ocean, but she loved the beach and and this is what the tour lady told me, not the police and not Paige - she said that the captain walker her back over to her tent and told her that she shouldnt be out at night and he made sure she got back in her tent, so and that was suposedly like 2:30 in the morning. So a report about 10pm at night is confusing to me."

I’d be flying out there to talk to the captain. JMO

I wonder how well-lit that sandbox is at night, especially along the shoreline…anybody found any nighttime photos?
i wonder that too.

The tour operators did state there was a bathroom on shore and on boat. Found at the link in quote.

“On Rendezvous Caye passengers are encouraged to use the shower facilities on the boat and there is a toilet on the island.”

There are actually more options for sleeping besides tents. See link below.

Probably a shower located on the boat for a quick “rinse” not a full fledged wash your hair warm shower. Possibly a water tank that holds only so much water. I think one of the reviews complained about a lack of water for showering.

Perhaps a porta potty? Guess it would need to be pumped out with that many passengers.

I am so glad that the F.B.I. is involved and I would imagine there will be a lengthy interview with the captain.

What concerned me about the "toilet on the island" is that they need to "flush the toilet with the bucket of water from the ocean." Sounds a little risky to be getting a bucket of water from the ocean at night.

Also, I've seen it mentioned a few times that there is a "caretaker" on the island.

Here is a quote from a tourist who stayed on the island in a tent:

"At the end of the day we arrived at Randezvous Caye, which was our first overnight stop. A tiny strip of sand, with a few huts and not much more. The island, even though uninhabited, does have some facilities ( like the toilet ), and there’s a caretaker there as well. We got a quick tutorial on how to pitch the tent, which were our sleeping quarters for the night. And most importantly how to flush the toilet with the bucket of water from the ocean."

I can't believe how close some of the tents are to the water.

At 00.32 of the video from ABC news, the island is smaller than I thought.

American woman vanishes while on vacation in Belize

There seem to be sand bars surrounding the island

3 Days Later – Alison MacKenzie is Still Missing! | Channel5Belize.com
“She was just coming there because our father passed away last year and then our step-father passed away two months ago. So, she was just going there to try to get a break from life here. “

It is probably so surreal & ethereal there at night. I can only imagine.
Because of her loss, grief, erratic behavior ....did she just check out?
Enough time passed ...and the water carried her away?

Her mother's words in this news article are heartbreaking to read.

Excerpt from: US tourist disappears off Rendezvous Caye | Amandala Newspaper

"In an interview with Corozal Daily News, Cherie MacKenzie said that they are trying to find the other tourists who were on the tour, but so far, finding them is proving challenging.
Cherie said that the island is small, spanning about 2 acres, with 10 palm trees."

"MacKenzie’s family is devastated, and Alison’s two daughters are inconsolable."

"Cherie said that regardless of the state in which her daughter is found, she wants her daughter back."

E.T.A. In my opinion, the F.B.I. will be able to locate most of the other tourists to interview. Hopefully this leads to some important information.

Just reading about this, sounds awful to me. Sleeping in a tent on a beach with a bunch of strangers? On a small rock island? Going on a boat, where you use a bucket of sea water to flush the toilet? Well, I suppose it was adventurous.

I will say, that what I do on vacation, is definitely not the same stuff that I do when I am at home. So, whatever her sister says Alison does or doesn't do at home, I would accept that maybe Alison drinks, or acts completely differently while on vacation.

Yes, I was questioning this myself in my last thoughts.
The entire 6 boxes creeped me out. And that pic panning out. Looked idyllic then turned to chills. Skeletons walking around. Raggedy clothes. No, no Ambien. No place for me.

I still... just.. who has time/capacity to write 6 random (some very positive) reviews from a trip in which your LIFE PARTNER disappears/dies mysteriously? I’m just beside myself wondering how this man brought himself to so casually recommend places from this traumatizing trip.. so many red flags started flying around for me on page one. Moo
