GUILTY Belize - Superintendent Henry Jemmott, shot/body in sea, San Pedro Town, 28 May 2021 *arrest*

After being shot, he allegedly fell on top of her.
This hasn’t been confirmed by LE as being the case and to my knowledge is just speculation from locals and media
I personally think that we should all wait to find out more about the circumstances surrounding the sorry saga because it certainly raises more questions than answers currently and until we hear more, I think we should wait before speculating. There are too many unknowns on both sides atm , victim and suspect and I would like to see an independent post mortem be conducted before the victim is buried or cremated to ensure the full circumstances of his death because having his service weapon when on personal leave and taking it out is highly unusual but after reading an earlier post on this thread about the corruption of the Govt and LE in Belize being rampant, I want to see what the evidence is to ensure the victim is given the treatment he deserves but then so should the victim as that’s the only way to obtain a true and just conviction. I have a couple more theories but I will sit on my hands and await further evidence to be released
All JMOO

What kind of investigation do they do there? How close was the gun when it was fired? Shot angle? Toxicology on both parties? Blood spatter on the dock and her clothes? Cell phone messages?
Exactly
That is what I would want to know

I wonder if we will ever hear anything from LE or the prosecution about what happened.

What if he was suicidal and she tried to take the gun away from him and it went off.

BBM. I dont think that that is unusual. I think US LE carry their weapons with them. Remember the policeman who killed the young man and wounded his parents while he was off duty in Walmart?

What if he was suicidal and she tried to take the gun away from him and it went off.
If that happened you would think that would have been her explanation. But all that's being reported is the drinking/massage/accidental discharge when handing him the gun scenario. JMO.

This is a small island.

On one hand, you have a very popular local man who has risen up the ranks to an influential and much respected position. He has had a partner for 14 years, several children, and large extended family on this small island.

But recently, he has had family issues and been transferred off the island. A bit of a mystery...

On the other hand, you have the partner of the son of the islands most powerful family, long time benefactors, job creators...almost local royalty.

But she leaves “her” apartment after curfew to drink for hours, maybe do drugs with this high ranking police officer. Then, somehow, after she massages his neck, she fires his gun and kills him. Lots of mystery here.

I wonder if we will ever know the truth of this.

There may be two reputations, two families to protect.

Maybe she will get no prison time...but she will leave the island...and her partner, and all his worldly goods...and never return. Her children will stay with their father...

Maybe that will be the agreed punishment that buries the real story...

just my opinions and musings...

I was thinking maybe she was so under the influence of something, drink, drugs whatever that she couldn't remember clearly what happened.

I'm not saying she was pressured but maybe she just wanted the questioning to stop up so she thought of what "might" have happned because an answer was demanded of her.

Maybe she really was too drunk or something to know for sure how it happened.

An explanation from a totally alert person can be quite different to one who is under the influence of drink, or drugs.

We know that if it was us then we would know for sure what happened.
In some situations people can be too drink or drug affected to remember anything much. if at all.
That's when some people admit to things and it's later found they didn't do it.

If that happened you would think that would have been her explanation. But all that's being reported is the drinking/massage/accidental discharge when handing him the gun scenario. JMO.

Her living arrangements are strange too. Wasn’t the ‘partner” in the apartment with her after curfew? Where does he sleep? Where are her children?

Why did she call the deceased so late to ask him to discuss her security? Couldn’t it wait till the next day? Why did this business meeting take hours? Why did they decide to leave her apartment and go sit on a dock?

Am wondering about cocaine charge versus manslaughter with a fine?

Why did Jasmine give in to the manslaughter charge?

This is an incredibly posh island. Inhabited by very, very rich people who probably only arrive and depart by private jet. The capital city is much poorer. And doesnt feel safe . IMO

Drugs are a big issue, Belize being a transport post via air or sea via the big producers from further south. Authorities, including police have been caught in raids.

I am not very far from Belize, have been twice to evaluate projects there.

The big problems are drug trafficking and money laundering.

Drug trafficking brings a longer sentence than manslaughter with negligence. Indeed if you Google that you will find sentences of 17 years etc for drug trafficking.

You will also find cases of police collaboration in drug transport.

All of this happens, especially if you are loaded with cash and maybe have some unscruplent accountants, some huge projects.

Agreed, plus she is reportedly 32 years old, her children would be young.

Plus minor detail, there is no visible lighting on the jetty. What were they doing there?

I know I asked this before. Still don't get it.

Having recently traveled to San Pedro, I have to strongly disagree on this point. There are people of all walks of life on the island, and even most expat homes aren't private jet nice by any means.

In 2010, the median price of a 4-bedroom home was $279,000 USD. https://www.globalpropertyguide.com.../belizes-property-market-is-recovering-127010

If her children are young and her partner is a billionaire of aristocratic stock, she probably has a nanny or a house girl.

While the mother of the rich British man's grandchildren was found next to a gun and a dead man, where was that rich British man's son? Why was he not with her?

It's starting to look so convenient that the mother is tucked away in prison for a shocking accidental murder while the father of her children is where ???

Of course, nothing worse than murder and a big finger pointing towards money to make it better.

Something is wrong with this picture, and it isn't about an "affair" between a really fat man and an elegant woman.

Don’t read into this too much. The islands have a totally different perspective on life. Most of you are trying to understand this situation as if it happened in Nebraska. It didn’t. If you’ve ever traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean, you would understand the life. Much like we could not understand how Madeline McCann’s parents left the children to sleep without a sitter, or a Danish woman left a child in a pram outside a New York cafe while she visited with friends, this shooting was not an aberration. I believe it was most likely an accident. But the sequence of events leading up to the fatal shot, are everyday occurrences. The culture is so different from US, Canadian and perhaps even British life, that it just doesn’t seem real. But it is real. Laid back laissez faire attitude with mixed races, proliferation of drugs, and rampant corruption is the rule in Belize as well as many other countries, especially island countries in the Caribbean. It is not the exception. Order, discipline and structure are uncommon. That’s why they are so incredibly poor. It’s all stolen at each level by everyone who can put their hands on any part of the money before it trickles down to where the needs are the greatest. It like the old Soviet system. If you lived behind the Iron Curtain before it fell, you would understand this culture. In Vegas, the house keeps about 4% of the money that crosses the tables. 96% is returned to customers as winnings. The odds are reversed in Belize, the Caribbean or Soviet Russia and it’s satellites.
Her treatment, the magistrate rulings, his family’s “outcry” of the crime, is all a big production. She was jailed so it looks good in the news. The magistrate has ruled against bail because he’s probably waiting for some form of payola and he did not receive it in time or in a sufficient amount. He sent her to the mainland so that those officials could also partake in the corruption rewards, and accept a bribe to continue the work. The family will receive hush money, especially that sister. On paper, she’ll be fined $10,000.00. Don’t believe that’s all she’ll pay. It will be a million or more that’s spread around everywhere to keep her from going to jail, from losing her marriage and her children. Lord Ashcroft is worth as much as the ENTIRE GNP of Belize. She is related to him, and believe me, the family will be paying royally for this incident. They’re keeping DM from accepting comments on the articles. I’m sure they are keeping others from reporting the truth, as well. It’s all part of the fabric of life there. It’ll all be ok after everyone has been compensated.

An official funeral will take place on June 12th at Jemmott’s hometown of Dangriga in Stann Creek. He leaves behind five children, his fiancé, family, and a host of friends across the country.

If Hartin is found guilty of Manslaughter by Negligence, it will be at the judge’s discretion to determine her sentence. It is possible that a fine could be negotiated in place of jail time
Charged with Manslaughter, Jasmine Hartin remanded to Belize Central Prison after shooting death of top cop - The San Pedro Sun
