Fewtrell last saw Bella March 12. She called the baby doe tip line in July, and then again earlier this month. No reply.

Megan Fewtrell, who said she helped Rachelle Bond parent Bella, is in court with the stuffed duck Bella slept with.

Why didn't Amoroso go to cops as soon as he heard? "we needed to spend time together as a family for what could be the last time."

Why didn't Bond say anything? "It makes sense that Rachelle Bond was held captive in that home for five months," Amoroso said.

life long friend of MM was the one who broke this case open. RB told him that MM killed baby Bella. He texted MM and MM claimed DCF had Bella. Witness was troubled by their treatment of Bella. She had been spanked, locked in a closet, etc.

RB AND MM told the friend Bella was possessed by demons. Friend confirmed that MM was into the occult. Alleged to see demons, ghosts, etc and have power to exorcise same.

Found in the search books on demonology.

When interviewed RB said late May Bella was unruly. MM said he would try to calm her. RB heard no sounds from bedroom and found MM standing over Bella on a mattress near the floor. RB tought Bella's face was swollen and face grey. When asked by RB MM said "she was a demon anyway. It was her time to die"

RB stated that MM said he or his friends would kill her if she told anyone.

Body placed in bag and into fridge.

outburst from unnamed person telling RB to rot in hell - person removed from courtroom

eventually MM told RB that they would dump her into Boston Harbor. Placed in trunk of car and drove to water, placed weights in bag dumping Bella into water.

ruled out by ME, natural - disease,

possibly died of asphyxiation. ME still working the report/case. DNA from search warrant and those DNA prelim results indicate match.

Friday, MM was interviewed. He continued to maintain that Bella was in DCF custody. He did not mention conversations with the lifelong friend.

Amoroso said he was not a part of his child’s life, but he occasionally talked to Rachelle Bond on the phone. She slurred her words when she spoke, he said, and he believed she was on drugs.

<snip>

Amoroso said that both he and his mother called complaints of neglect into DCF. The agency has confirmed that two complaints, in late 2012 and summer of 2013, came in about the girl, but both were closed within a few months. The agency did not divulge who made the complaints, and has said it was not involved with Bella after 2013.

Prosecutor: Suspect in Death of Baby Doe 'Said It Was Her Time to Die'

[...]

Assistant District Attorney David Deakin told a Dorchester District Court judge on Monday that a "lifelong friend" of McCarthy's broke the case open.

[...]

McCarthy allegedly told Bond that Bella "was a demon anyway. It was her time to die." He then allegedly threatened to kill Bond if she reported anything to police.

[...]

The friend who broke the case open told authorities he texted McCarthy, asking where Bella was after noticing a resemblance between the billboards put up across the city of Boston seeking information about Baby Doe. The friend said McCarthy claimed Bella had been taken away by child services, who twice visited Bella over the course of her lifetime but left her in Bond's custody.

"McCarthy is currently hospitalized for abscesses in his arms due to heroin use, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation, and Amoroso claimed that Bond told him she was only able to escape after his hospitalization.

Amoroso said that he met Bond after her phone call. She did not immediately tell him what had happened to Bella. Bond said she wanted to sleep by the water, so they spent the night outdoors in South Boston, and all she talked about was Bella, he said. Bond did not say the child was dead, just that Amoroso would find out everything.

It was only after they had spent about 24 hours together that she finally laid out the “horrific” details of their daughter’s death, said Amoroso. He declined to elaborate."

Bella Bond's paternal grandfather speaks out from Clearwater, Florida:

"Amoroso’s father, Anthony, 61, said his son telephoned him Friday and told him he needed to see a lawyer and possibly approach the FBI. Anthony Amoroso said he later learned Bella was dead.

“I’m shocked. I’m confused. It’s overwhelming,” he said Saturday by phone from Clearwater, Fla. “Bella was my only granddaughter. I was hoping someday soon I would have an opportunity to hold her in my arms and give her a kiss on the cheek.”

Anthony Amoroso, who never met Bella, said he was moved by how the composite image of his granddaughter was seen by millions of people worldwide while investigators searched to learn her name and the circumstances of her death.

“Wasn’t that the greatest thing to see that outpouring of humanity,” he said. “She touched a lot of people’s hearts and minds.”

In 2012, his most recent offense, Amoroso pleaded guilty in 2012 to resisting an officer with violence and larceny under $100.
Amoroso never met his daughter, though he said he had spoken to her on the phone for a brief period after she turned two and was getting better at speech. Bella often said “kitty” because she loved Hello Kitty, the anthropomorphic fictional cat. But Bond cut off contact, Amoroso told the Globe, after the pair argued over money.

From a few phone calls with Bond, Amoroso worried that she was still using drugs. He said that he and his mother called the Department of Children and Families twice to report suspicions of neglect.
When he returned to Boston a few weeks ago, Amoroso decided to look in on his daughter, he told the Globe. But when he showed up at Bond’s home, she put him off, saying their daughter was away on Cape Cod.

"When she was arrested for Bella Bond's death, she decided to blame it on Mr. McCarthy. That is simply not true," Shapiro said. "Mr. McCarthy is a recovering drug addict. He has a serious seizure disorder that requires the help of a dog who has been his constant companion for over 10 years. He is shocked and saddened by the death of Bella Bond, but he did not kill her. Miss Bond told him that DCF had taken Bella because of Miss Bond's neglect. He believed her, and that's all that he was ever told by Miss Bond."

Our Baby Bella

Tonight on Deer Island, there was a vigil to honor our baby, Bella Bond. Attending the vigil were some of the members of the State Police Detective Unit assigned to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley’s Office.

The troopers brought these two bouquets of flowers along with these two hats from the state police and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. They left the hats at at the vigil, near where she was found.

We may of finally found out your given name, but you are now a member of our family.

In her short, tumultuous life, Bella Bond loved cats, dancing to country music and the color green.

The woman, Megan Fewtrell, told reporters that Bond -- who has a long record of drug and prostitution arrests -- would leave Bella with her for two-week periods.

Fewtrell claimed she contacted police twice to ask for a well-being check on Bella and her mother after she saw the composite image of Baby Doe and thought the girl looked like Bella around the eyes.

But state police and Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley's office denied that investigators received such a tip.

"These claims are false," said Jake Wark, a spokesman for Conley.

Judge Thomas Kaplanes represented Rachelle Bond, Bella Bond’s mother, in a criminal case back in 2011, according to court documents.

Kaplanes, who was a private criminal defense attorney before taking the bench in 2013, signed off on Rachelle Bond’s guilty plea on a drug-related case, according to court documents. Bond was given one year probation and was told to attend a drug-treatment program as part of the guilty plea.

While there is a potential conflict of interest, there is no need for Kaplanes to recuse himself in this situation. Both McCarthy and Bond will have their cases moved to superior court, and to a new judge, before it can go to trial.*

Residents of the apartment building that police searched told reporters that investigators asked about a woman who used to live there.

Neighbors said they had not seen a girl who looked like the composite photo released by police since March or April. They said they were told she had been taken into custody of child welfare.
