Oh my! I must have looked at the creek every weekday for a decade getting on the 294N
I recall that 294, 90, 190 area being pretty dark at night. Lots of tall reeds there too. It's possible no one saw this car go off the road and the vehicle wasn't reported until daylight.

IMO, sadly we are not going to get happy news. Waiting on MSM for confirmation

So sorry to hear this - I have driven that SO many times (I used to work in a field office on Devon Road). I'm guessing that would be Willow Creek. (screenshot of closeup of map attached). Des Plaines · Maine Township, IL My condolences to his wife and family.

So incredibly sad. This wasn't the answer anyone was hoping for, but at least he's been found.

Praying for his family and friends.

Ben was a very smart and professional guy at work. I will miss his energy. He was going home, I'm sure. Let's drive slower, this can happen to anyone.

100% He was trying to get on the 294N to get home. I live in Crystal Lake, and although I could take back roads to that area north towards Wisconsin, it will always be faster taking the expressway. Esp at night. God bless you, and his friends and family. I know I will be thinking of him every time I am on that off ramp.

So is the Impreza also missing? If so, check bodies of water near where the phone last pinged.
@ErinC... I have read every post and you were spot on from the get-go! I never would have thought "bodies of water" (something I'd not usually associate with a highway) and yet you did. Was it the phone going instantly to e-mail, the rain or is this something that has occurred at similar exits (77B) at night?
Heartbreaking for his beautiful family... there are never the right words to say.

I've enlarged the attached google map photo of the interchange where I believe from the sheriff's report, his car was found. I added markings in magenta to show how the ramp flows going eastbound on 90 to take the offramp and then around to go north on 294 and how easy it would be to miss the turn and go into the water. You wouldn't have to be impaired, just a moments inattention or distraction. Such a loss.

This is so very sad. And… a creek? It looks like such a small body of water, I’m just surprised this was the result of an accident there. But we don’t know if he was trapped, or if it was the impact, etc etc. I’m so sorry to see this outcome.

We just drove past this intersection tonight :( It made me so sad going past it and seeing it on the map. We were out driving Wednesday night around that time, a little earlier though, but it was raining HARD the whole evening. I’m surprised there isn’t a guard rail or anything there but from the satellite images above, it looked like it may not be the first time this has happened- it looked like there were some other tire tracks.

It's plain old pattern recognition. I live close-ish to where Tony Luzio (he has a thread on here if you feel like searching) was found in a retention pond in his car, almost ten years after going missing. This case actually reminds me of Tony A LOT as it's thought that Tony missed a turn in the dark, which I'm guessing is similar to what happened here. There have been several similar cases on here but I don't recall names atm. I really, really would have preferred to be wrong, I must say :( ETA: I also live in a college town and we had a really sad case a few years back, where a pair of students were speeding, flipped and landed in a creek very similar to this one, with a similar outcome. Watching speed in the dark and in inclement weather is SO important.

Heavy rain, in the dark, going fast on a freeway, after a glass or two, all make it increasingly difficult to navigate turns :(

I was hoping you were wrong too- nothing personal
