The glass looks like it is actually one of those plastic "glasses" you can still get at the diners that are still stuck in the 70s. They have a bumpy texture. Usually red or amber.

If she is, then because she disappeared with $28,000 she may be an exception to the general rule that Alcala did his killing mainly out of some sort of sexually fuelled narcissistic rage. When Mary went missing Alcala was most likely working out how to go on the run in a more permanent manner... a supply of cash would certainly help with that. Did the police find a stash of cash anywhere in Alcala's stuff?
