Siblings fall into irrigation canal south of Phoenix

Pinal County Sheriff's Office spokesman Elias Johnson says a 6-year-old special needs child apparently fell into the canal in Maricopa Sunday afternoon and his two brothers, both age 10, slid down the steep embankment to save him.

Johnson said the boys didn't know how to swim. He says one 10-year-old was able to make it out of the canal and run home to get help, but the other 10-year-old drowned. He noted that the canals were difficult to get out of when someone falls in.

What a heartbreaking tragedy.

Sad. Both brothers who tried to help their sibling are heroes. They loved their brother enough to risk their lives and one gave his. Prayers for their families.
