Perhaps he actually last saw her in July and is just mistaken?

This is a difficult case to make sense of, though.
Maybe it was pre-meditated? He planted the fridge/items in July but waited until August to murder her & hide her body? Just a thought...

Was she reported missing? How awful for her kids though :(

The girl with tattoos...wow. It actually didn't take long.
I get the feeling her Most Recent Boyfriend was a bad bad dude. I'm curious about how this happened, their relationship and why this happened.

I hesitate to pin it on him with absolute certainty, because after all we are trusting the word of the Mexican government. I won't speculate the details either, but it's safe to say that their relationship was not going well and was possibly over, since her family said that they were recently split... I don't know if they had enough time to get back together or not.

Update:
No updates. I didn't think autopsies took this long, but maybe they're not releasing the results until Blevins returns from his sabbatical. Is extradition really this difficult (we're talking August, not a few weeks), or is it possible that the Mexico City police released him and then lost track of him?

Are articles (PDF or JPG, which includes the URL) from sites like Newspapers.com allowed? Interesting find about the suspect.

Yes, newspapers.com is a fine source to use :)

Looks like this isn't his first brush with the law.

In July of 2016, he allegedly (I don't know if he was convicted) shot at a woman with a sawed-off shotgun. The bullets went through her car and leg, luckily (presumably) missing her femoral artery. He was charged with:

1) Malicious wounding (certified to grand jury);
2) Shooting at a vehicle (dismissed);
3) Use of a firearm in commission of a felony (dismissed);
4) Use of a sawed-off shotgun (dismissed); and
5) Reckless handling of a firearm (certified to grand jury).

The victim wasn't Hughes; the age is off. But the age is correct for Blevins, as is the town.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say they lost this guy in Mexico. Maybe suicide or an OD. Haven't seen any updates for almost 3 weeks. Not even an obit for the victim. Hope the kids are doing ok.

Blevins is currently being held in a California correctional facility and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey, officials said.

I was hoping this would make more sense of the timeline, but it doesn't.

July 2024: Pick-up w/ fridge caught on surveillance; CB flees to Mexico.

August 2024: CB surrenders in Mexico City and charged with desecrating human remains that HAVEN'T BEEN FOUND YET; said remains later seen alive in court. (None of that ever made sense to me, but that's how it was reported.)

September-November 2024: At some point, CB flees Mexico and somehow gets a job in San Diego.

December 2024: Hiker finds remains in a fridge in the middle of the woods while taking out some "personal items"; police release renderings of tattoos in hopes of identifying remains CB was charged with desecrating four months earlier; CB begins extended New Year's holiday.

January 2025: CB caught and jailed in San Diego, charged with murder.

But... Whatever. Whatever the series of events after the tragedy, the last one is all that matters.

A lot more details to understand in this case.
And as usual, with the DailyM, more decent pictures...

Finally an obit released within the last couple weeks. They still haven't been able to schedule a funeral or burial.

Sad...
