I can tell you Crown Craig Fraser was pressing Schlatman hard. Schlatman was calm. #Bosma

Crown asked SS why he didn't ask where Tim Bosma was. Says he never thought DM could be involved in something like that. #Bosma

And really, that's a perfectly normal reaction. I mean, who in the world automatically assumes someone they've known for years would be capable of such a horrific thing? Unless the person has a known history of violence or abuse, no one. You see it all the time in after-the-fact interviews with people who knew the accused and it always takes people by surprise that someone THEY knew, as well as they thought they knew them, was actually capable of doing something so unthinkable.

I don't think so. The whole quote:He's pretending he wants to do the right thing and take the truck back to the (fictional place he got it) but knows he'd get caught up in the ensuing investigation.Keep in mind it's pretty clear he's lying to SS in these texts, with the pretense being that he accidentally bought a stolen truck whose owner is missing. His 'concern about how it's going to play out' is meant to counter SS's suggestion that he do the right thing.
Of course we know he's lying. He would probably lie on the stand if they had him testify.

Agreed 100%. I also don't think it took SS long to catch on either, that this is exactly what DM was doing.

I agree.....what I'm having a hard time reconciling is how SS continued to work for DM until long after his arrest......did he truly believe DM had nothing to do with it? didn't care that his boss was an "alleged" murderer? Thoughts?

This was discussed with LW as well since she continued to work for DM. SS may be a bit different as it seems he went on to work for MB....

Yeah, this is the piece of info I glommed onto--that MB seemingly started renting out the hangar to actual airplanes. So SS cleaned out/ebay'd all the toys, then kept the place clean for normal use.

We can argue that he was just doing it to be a good guy to help out MB, OR that he still felt a sense of weird loyalty to DM (or maybe believed he was innocent for a while).

Also, when you've been in a certain workplace for a while, especially a 'non standard' one, the prospect of going out and getting a real job at a 'normal' workplace can be scary.

I wish we knew a bit more context of their conversations before the text from DM about "I can't stop thinking about what that family's going through."

Like did that just come out randomly? Had their been a conversation about it prior in person?

The texts about the power washer made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Are we to understand that DM asked where the power washer was on the 7th and SS told him that he had it?

Did SS take it back on the 7th? I don't think so.

Did DM acquire a power washer some other way?

Think AC is mixing his dates up today....I believe this was sent May 8 according to other reporters

Shannon Martin ‏@ShannonMartinTV 4m4 minutes ago Toronto, Ontario
5:42 a.m. May 8. Millard texts Mechanic: Do you have the power washer? Then, can't seen to find it at the hangar #Bosma

ETA - apologies to AC on this one....he is also reporting this as happening on May 8

On May 8 at 5:42 a.m., Millard texts Schlatman "Do you have the power washer?"

While we can all ask....why would ppl keep working...not say anything ect. Let remember that both SS and LW and even AJ to an extent (getting workplace approved credit for work not related to practical experience required for his retraining program) were likely getting paid very well to do not much, low stress and had the freedom to come and go when needed. DM knew his business was not on the up and up and likely paid accordingly. When faced with the...I think my boss just did this....scenario, one is also going to think....what does this mean in terms of feeding my family ect. Not sure where SS is working now but chances are he had a hard time finding employment that matched what he had with DM....one tends to look the other way if the pay is over compensation for the skills at hand.

If SS was the person DM asked CN to talk to about changing his testimony do we think that the Crown would bring that up and tell the Jury here and now?

A lot of us suspected that it was SS that DM was talking about.

If the Crown doesn't bring it up here then I am assuming that it was someone else.

Thoughts? Am I on the right track or am I heading down a path I don't need to take?

Who was DMs roommate at the time? Maybe it was AM?

I just noticed lots of typos in my tweets today. I'm out of practice I guess after a week off.

The way I understood the tweets & texts:

DM texted SS early on the 8th and asked him if he had it. He replied that he did but DM never answered back. When SS went into the work after having the 7th off, he took the pressure washer with him to the hangar.

That was Thursday morning. When and where DM used a pressure washer on the truck hasn't been made clear, since the truck was gone by Friday morning.

Maybe true for SS, since he had actual skills. But I'm really not sure. It seems DM really was a cheapskate in some ways. And wasn't that other guy (Hussey) only making $12/hour?

Have to wonder what WM thought about DM bringing home his own mechanic like it was just some Mexican street dog he found. Seems incredible that WM agreed to have the guy on the payroll for the sole purpose of supporting DM's hobbies.

Was it AJ that mentioned Colombian workers during his testimony? Clearly it isn't a factor in the case or the Crown would have brought this up by now. But I have to admit...I am curious what Colombian workers were doing at the hanger, related or not. It's a head scratcher. MOO

IIRC it's been stated when DM was arrested his mother took over the operations of the hangar and SS remained on the payroll. I don't have a clue how much he was making but at this point he was no longer working for DM, he was working for MB. And for a lot of people, a job is a job. Who knows, maybe he even got a raise? I don't think I could continue employment there but that's me.

Whenever this gets brought up, I assume they are referring to day-laborers (not sure if it works the same up there?) who were around doing menial stuff/construction. I really don't think it's a 'thing'.

As for Jennings, he usually worked a six-hour day. There was another guy who would sometimes help Shane with cars and some Colombian contractors that worked for Millard doing construction, but after they left it was just Dell, Shane and Jennings.

I'm sure with everything going on with her son..she was completely stressed and in shock. I cannot remember what age she would be, but this would be alot for someone to take on. She not only had to deal with her son being arrested but the finances and the hangar. I would have had a nervous breakdown I think if this were my son. Especially if he was a "good son" as DP put it. I imagine she approached SS and asked for his help...he may have felt obligated to support her. IMO
