Sachak is doing his best to make DM sound broke IMO. Late payments and unpaid expenses etc. Unpaid income tax which is the business that is to pay the government the employees income tax cpp and EI likely in this case monthly. As well I imagine that HST hasn't been filed either.

I'm not quite seeing it that way. He's showing that DM was travelling the world, adding luxury upgrades to his future condo, providing money and other perks to JV, etc. Whenever he brings up the late payments, he also suggests that it was actually JV who owed money to DM.

Help me understand why DM's lawyer would want to make him sound broke? I don't necessarily agree that's what he is doing, but how would this be in his best interest?

Any guesses on what's going on with this hose thing? I'm pretty lost with Villata in general.

Poor drainage behind Riverside. Lawyer suggests Millard wanted to know how much water accumulated there. Asked Villada to run hose 10 hours.

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 45s46 seconds ago
Villada says the reason he ran the hose for 10 hours in Millard's backyard was because his boss wanted to see how water would accumulate

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 22s23 seconds ago
The yard had recently been landscapes and Millard wanted to see how much water would pool there

He shut it off around 6pm. Sachak asks if he recalls seeing water there. He doesn't recall. Says it was asphalt/gravel there. #Bosma

Sachak now asking about #Millard request to run water hoses for 10 hours in yard at Riverside. Jury saw photo of this. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 15s15 seconds ago
It comes out of the hose and goes somewhere, Sachak says--I'm just asking was there an accumulation, pool of water there or not? #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 12s12 seconds ago
Villada ran the hose. Didn't notice if water had accumulated.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 10s11 seconds ago
Villada doesn't remember seeing any water accumulated after hose ran all day (as requested by DM). #Bosma

Sachak now asking about a hose that was left running at the Maple Gate property. The water was running there for ten hours at Millard's behest.
by Adam Carter 10:50 AM

Sachak says this was to see if water would accumulate there.
by Adam Carter 10:51 AM

Man.. that's a whole lot less sinister than most of us thought.

Strange that MB would send a bonus cheque to LW_2, but not settle the outstanding invoices for Villata homes. After all, she was managing DM's business affairs after his arrest.

Is it possible that it was determined that JV owed DM more than DM owed JV? I wonder if we are going to find out if JV ever fully paid DM (or MB) back for the trip to Columbia?

Sounds awfully selfish that you can do all these upgrades and not pay your employees pay check on time. I wonder how much of the unpaid expenses were related to this project. By the sounds of things JV is on the hook for DM's upgrades.

"Do you recall when you shut it off if there was water there?" Sachak asks.
by Adam Carter 10:52 AM

Villata says he doesn't remember seeing water accumulate there.

Villada says he doesn't remember seeing water accumulate in the yard. The hoses ran to patch of asphalt & gravel

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 33s34 seconds ago
Hoses were draining into the low part of the yard. Villada agrees DM specified points to put the hoses. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 15s16 seconds ago
S: DM said he'd be back by end of day to see where water was pooling. V: I don't remember that. #Bosma

I agree. I feel sorry for JV being used like that.

Villada made a statement to police after Millard's arrest. He's provided with a copy of that statement to help refresh his memory. #Bosma

Villada given copy of his police statement transcript to refresh his memory. #Bosma

I really think the defense is just trying to drag their feet a bit. With some potentially explosive witnesses with what could be very damning evidence coming up, why not spend extra time on a witness who really doesn't have much to add when it actually comes to TB.

Sachak, known for verbosity, says he's searching for words. "I have a brain cramp." #Bosma

I am familiar with the expression "brain fart"....thinking that is what he meant to say about his morning's cross......brilliant.

I don't think Sachak was the author of this book...

This testimony is in response to the Crown asking him last week and bringing up the hoses that were left running. No reason was really given for it.
by Adam Carter 10:55 AM

Sachak asking Villata to review one of his police statements to refresh his memory.
by Adam Carter 11:01 AM

"There's no reason you would lie to the police?" Sachak says. "I have no reason to lie to the police," Villata responds.

You would think the judge might say something about that, eh. :gaah:

So how is all this personal work JV was doing for DM a MillardAir payroll expense? Can you do that? Put a personal contractor on the payroll of your company? I guess he was put on there when the hangar was built and JV started doing the interior work? Had nothing whatsoever to do with DM trying to help him out, just with DM figuring out a way to keep paying him on the MillardAir dime to continue to do work on his properties.

Has your boss ever loaned you $9.5K interest free? Sent you on an all expense paid trim to Mexico? Paid your debt to H&R Block? Probably not.

They are just pecking at his credibility. If he is not truthful about some things, what makes us believe he is truthful about others. Classic defense tactic. Not sure what they are trying to get us not to believe about the days around the murder though. And of course just deflecting anything that makes their client look bad.

Tweets are all over the place. Sachak said the hoses were to see if water would accumulate. JV said Dellen didn't say that. Didn't tell him why.

As far as taxes... DM paid him by cash and cheque, but JV wasn't on the books so no T4 was given and taxes and CPP were not paid. JV would have had to claim the income as self employed and owed taxes on that. Putting him on the books at MillardAir would solve that problem.
