In the statement, Villata says "No, he just told me to buy two hoses and run them in such direction in the backyard and leave it running for the whole day Friday morning."
by Adam Carter 11:03 AM

In his statement, Villata said Millard wanted to see where water would "pond" in the back yard, and that's why the hoses were on.
by Adam Carter 11:06 AM

Sachak says this would be important to consider when building a deck.

Has your boss ever loaned you $9.5K interest free? Sent you on an all expense paid trim to Mexico? Paid your debt to H&R Block? Probably not.

I'm pretty sure that "expense paid trip to Mexico" wasn't a holiday. They went to get a vehicle for DM.

Villada given copy of his police statement transcript to refresh his memory. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 5m5 minutes ago
Court asking Villada if he is able to read English version of his statement.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 6m6 minutes ago
Villada says he was able to read and understand it.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 3m3 minutes ago
Villada reads statement. Says his mind was fresher then but today he doesn't remember. Says he would've had no reason to lie. #Bosma

Sachak reading the statement: "he just told me to buy 2 hoses and running in such direction on the backyard..." ...

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
July 15, 2013 gave statement. "He just told me to buy 2 hoses and run in such direction in the back yard & leave them running whole day."

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 2m2 minutes ago
"...and leave it running for the whole day Fri am." Police asked him so he asked you to buy a hose just to run it? V: yes. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Ran hose May 10, day Millard was arrested. #bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 2m2 minutes ago
V: "And then he say he will be there at the end of the day to see where the water was going." #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 2m2 minutes ago
Still talking about hoses in Millard's backyard. Villata needs to review his police statement to remember whether he saw water pooling

Police:"to see where it was going?" V:"ya, where the water was sitting...ponding...that's why he asked me to leave it running all day long."

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Millard was going to come by at end of day to see where the water was "ponding."

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 2m2 minutes ago
Sachak: so what you told police is Dellen wanted to see where the water would be sitting/ponding. Villada agrees. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 1m1 minute ago
Sachak suggests if you were considering building a deck, knowing where water pools would be good to know. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 22s23 seconds ago
Villada says you couldn't build a deck there. Sachak says point is if you're thinking about it, it's a factor to consider. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 3s4 seconds ago
Lawyer suggests knowing where water pools is important before building a deck.

You would think the judge might say something about that, eh. :gaah:

And maybe the Judge is just giving him enough rope to hang himself and his client.....let him blather on and on and on.....:)

Morning recess. #bosma

Sounds awfully selfish that you can do all these upgrades and not pay your employees pay check on time. I wonder how much of the unpaid expenses were related to this project. By the sounds of things JV is on the hook for DM's upgrades.

Easy! Have the upgrades done by people you don't pay .... on time. :peace:

Any guesses on what's going on with this hose thing? I'm pretty lost with Villata in general.

The Crown is going to present evidence regarding that hose. DM's defense is using JV to counteract that evidence before it is even given. This is how they get their "client's story" about certain evidence to the jury without having to put their client up there to tell it. This is the first I've seen that DM may not be taking the stand IMO. It may have been happening all along with the cross but it appears that we don't get much information from them.

"And then he say he will be there at the end of the day to see where the water was going."

Something buried in that backyard maybe? Like LB?

Let's hope so. :)

His expenses were paid right? His salary was presumably paid as well. Sounds like a nice week away from working.

<modsnip> For a guy with basic labourer skills, no education, no money and a language issue, Millard actually set him up quite nicely didn't he?

For someone concerned about the price of garbage bags, two hoses for 10 hours seems overkill.

When did the deck idea first surface? Timing is very important when dealing with DM projects.

I had a boss that sent me on all expenses included travel and paid for my condo and all utilities, but he was cooking the books and got busted.

ETA: I also got numerous significant raises to keep my mouth shut - which I didn't - and he ended up on the front page of the local paper.

And lets just step of the Millard hate wagon for a moment. For a guy with basic labourer skills, no education, no money and a language issue, Millard actually set him up quite nicely didn't he?

JV wasn't a basic labourer, he was a foreman. And he wasn't uneducated - he could read English (and Spanish too one would assume of course).

You can't call a work trip a vacation. I've been thrilled to go on all of my work trips, but that doesn't mean that I should pay for them.

Instead of running water for 10hrs, they could've used a laser level to shoot grades instead. This would give defined slope. If drainage was going to be an "issue", a French drain could've been installed to have the rain water go into the ground instead of "pooling ".
Imo, water ran for a reason other than finding where the water would lay.

I was sent to 3-day conferences, but expenses were paid for a full week at the location. I also was driving to Chicago on vacation once, and my employer happened to have a delivery to go there. I was given a gas card to use and my wages were paid for the time I was there.

Okay which college did he go to? And where did I ever call it a vacation? I think most people would jump at the opportunity to take a week long all expense paid road trip don't you?

Look, just because Millard was a bad guy, doesn't mean he was a bad guy to everybody. There is nothing wrong with admitting that.

JV wasn't sent to Mexico, anyway, but New Mexico. I've driven across New Mexico and you know what's there? 555 km of red rock and rubble and some scrubby black cactus-like things that look very angry. It's not an inspiring drive.
