There is a huge difference in the two cases when one had a guilty plea while the other pleads not guilty!

If you think what I wrote is all about the plea then I know you have missed my point.
It really is all about accepting the consequences of criminal behaviour in an adult manner that is poised and mature and reflects the willingness to accept personal responsibility for one's behaviour----not moaning whining and making excuses for the unacceptable like an undisciplined child.

Actually I do think that Errr's comment about the difference it makes when one enters a guilty vs a not guilty plea is based upon his/her grasping your point. Good observation, Errr - it's late or I might have had your comment sink into my brain sooner. lol

If MS and his lawyer were expecting to do the more mature, honourable thing as you suggested, Abitcountry, why would MS not simply plead guilty at the outset?

Imaginary conversation:

DM: See if you can find an incinerator we can steal.
SS: Spent all week looking, can't find one, guess we'll have to buy one.
Aside for the aircraft in the hangar and cars/trucks that he inherited from CM & WM, chances are the Eliminator was the only thing DM actually ever legally owned. MOO

Talk about going off script. I seriously doubt that P & S saw that 100 car train coming down the track. Seriously doubt that DM himself thought that Dungey would have that much leeway in his cross examination. It saddens me to think that a full grown man like SS would be so weak and cowardly. He was so dependent and needy that he was completely void of a moral compass. How much of WM and LB did SS know about? How many other skeletons does this guy have to sleep with every night.

I can't imagine WM didn't know DM had some serious problems. When SS spoke of the MRO and it's certification, he knew full well that all of the stuff he was working on there would have to go somewhere. Before WM died and Millardair had 13 other employees working there at the hangar- getting things ready for the MRO, exactly what was SS doing? Just going about his merry way doing whatever Dell wanted him to do completely oblivious to WM's aviation maintenance crew? Ignoramuses. Can't even imagine the embarrassment and frustration WM must have been continuously experiencing with his one and only son.

So at the end of the day, MB is the one dealing with the mess. The stolen vehicle investigations, WM's estate, putting all the money that DM took out of MA back into the coffers, DM's mounting legal bills, more trials, more publicity. IMHO, when WM died and DM made her part of MA, I doubt she thought that the 5K a month was going to take her to a place where her life was consumed with dealing with the aftermath of her evil son. MOO

In regards to the lawyers. Dungey can pull off these explosive cross examinations and it comes off like it could be in a movie. He's got the looks, age and experience. S & P on the other hand? Neither of them have the charisma TD has. IMO, if P & S tried the same thing they'd come off as arrogant jerks. But with that being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sachak rev it up a notch and try to impress the media. After the trial, perhaps Dell can invite P & S down to Barton to do some "stand up" ? MOO

My bets are on one of them trying to go after MM with the same force...which would not be a good idea IMO.

This whole relationship with people who actually work for DM is really sick IMO....Reminds me of the time of plantation owners---Boss walking around with his buggy whip and everyone works it out right quick....the answers are "Yes Sir". "No Sir". "How high Sir". I had thought it strange when JV was so formal with DM when he got back to him after missing DM's call.....and then with Shaner saying 'did I upset you'. They were not being obsequious or condescending---they were responding the way Master had trained them....DISGUSTING ---what??? Is this how DM thinks the rich are entitled to behave ? SICK mind in every way.

Don't know if this is allowed, but SS did list on one of his AMDninjaboy profiles that he (SS) liked to be "passive." That's a whole other bunny trail our minds can go down. :blowkiss:

One can think what they want, but today it was said the possible thefts were still under investigation. IMO that doesn't rule out chop shop.

IMO, though I don't think DM was smart enough, my understanding is some foreign country thieves pay big money for parts they reassemble in their country and seems to me it might be an easy place to slip a part on a cargo plane leaving from that airport.

BBM

Just wondering what you think DM was chopping and selling? It appears that he was still in possession of all the stolen items and that they were intact, except for some parts missing from the motorcycle. And it also appears that none of them were cars. It is likely still under investigation because they have not determined who actually stole the items and when.

TIA

And the excavator that he blew the engine on in the first week or two. ;)

I'm off now to bed, but before I go I must say your post is great! You are a very vivid writer.

If S&P were taking notes today, DM might erroneously think they were tweaking their defense for him.
Reality, any note taking was likely for future reference... both received free "how to be a defense lawyer" training today. MOO

"Usually looking alternately confident or bored as he watches his trial, Millard uncharacteristically looked irritated during the cross examination of Schlatman."

When all is said and done, wonder if they will still be friends? Anyone think SS will go for prison visits to see DM? That might also depend what prison DM ends up in if he's found guilty of murder. Where might DM end up spending the rest of his life behind bars? MOO.

Would have loved TD to turn to Pillay and Sachak and ask, "you clearly look nervous now, wouldn't you agree?"

I'm struck by the way a few of us were leaning towards giving SS the benefit of the doubt, a week or two ago. I'm really glad TD went off the "script" we've gotten used to. I hope we, and the jury, are fully awake now.

Hmm, I gave SS the benefit of the doubt and initially thought I had reason to do so. He'd cooperated with LE after DM's arrest, painted DM as an inconsistent risk-taker, and attempted to place DM and MS in the hangar video at 1 am on May 7. While I disagree with AJ and SS's motives, decisions, and actions in the aftermath of TB's disappearance, I think I echo most people's sentiments that they weren't so disreputable so as to make their testimonies invalid in the court of law. MOO.

It's just unfortunate that SS, regardless of his possibly legitimate fear of or loyalty to DM, or his perceived cowardice, failed to come to court with clean hands and admitted to lying about the dates and subjects of specific conversations in court. There's more to SS's story than what we've heard (context behind texts with DM regarding TB's family, details surrounding the Thursday meet-up with AJ, whether or not he reported AJ's suspicions to DM, etc.), but I think the Crown and TD did a great job wringing plenty of incriminating, circumstantial data from him before he clammed up. To add, I wish we had more evidence of the kind of business that actually went on in the hangar before and after WM's death, which might encourage SS, and AJ, to turn a blind eye to DM's affairs, but perhaps that's evidence saved for another trial. JMO.

TL;dr - AJ and SS's testimonies frustrate and fascinate me, if only because they seem contradictory, polarizing, or both, and provide us with a valuable lesson on how not to respond to a missing person's case. Ignorance might be bliss to some (SS), but a freaking pain in the butt for others (paraphrasing Ricky Gervais).

But I would not call pleading "not guilty" to be indicative of accepting responsibility for ones behaviour?

or he didn't have friends (other than his BFF DM) or not one family member who listened to the news, read a newspaper who would have at least mentioned this case that was hot on the press? In my inner circle, I know TB's disappearance was a hot topic as it hit home to everyone!!!!

Yeh, IMO there is no way in hell that he didnt know about the disappearance of Mr. Bosma and his truck. SS still is a frequent Kijiji user. Just the Kijiji connection alone attracted many many peoples interest from outside the area.

I've always suspected SS had nothing to do with that profile, that someone signed him up as a prank or something.

Dellen Millard’s privileged, reckless, controlling, fantasy-land life revealed at Bosma murder trial

“He has no fear,” Schlatman said of Millard.

He drove so recklessly Schlatman wouldn’t get into a car with him: “I did once and said I’d never do it again,” he said.

“Crazy, carefree,” Schlatman described Millard. “He could go off and do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted.

“He’s the guy with the money. If he wanted something he goes and buys it,” he said. “When he broke something, I would fix it.”

And he could be controlling, the jury heard

Just curious about legal arguments on Thurs and Fri regarding an upcoming female to take the stand. Why are they doing this before she hits the stand? Has she changed her views? Or is this just to lay some ground rules prior to this specific witness.

Just wondering what you think DM was chopping and selling? It appears that he was still in possession of all the stolen items and that they were intact, except for some parts missing from the motorcycle. And it also appears that none of them were cars. It is likely still under investigation because they have not determined who actually stole the items and when.

TIA

BBM

Makes me wonder if this was not just another one of his brilliant "business" ideas that went south when the novelty wore off. JMO
