Brandon Durham, shot dead by police officer when he called for help during a home invasion

  • #21
I believe the officer was trying to do the right thing but ultimately made a fatal mistake. I think he continued shooting because he believed that the man he shot was holding the knife and therefore still a danger to the woman. I have to say the first time I watched the video I only saw Brandon's hands on the knife. It wasn't until I slowed it down that I saw they were both holding it.

I hear you but I think he reacted with no critical thinking... Why would the homeowner be wearing a hood and the intruder be in their underwear? He gave a command but didn't wait for a response.
I believe he was scared. It's a very hard job and that was also a very hard situation but he shot him in the head first thing.

It's not another man, the person in the red hoodie is a woman and was his girlfriend.

As Officer Alexander Bookman and two others responded, they saw damaged cars and windows and heard screaming and banging from inside Durham’s home. Bookman then kicked in Durham’s front door and, once inside, found Durham and Alejandra Boudreaux, 31, wrestling over a knife in a bedroom doorway, according to Koren.

Police said they believed a domestic relationship existed between Durham and Boudreaux but Koren did not offer more details.

This will be a doozy to untangle. This is so very sad for everyone.
IMO, it's gonna be nearly impossible to have this thing settle so that things will be smoothed-out to please everyone.
SMH.

I don't see what you describe at all.
I looked and looked, thought I might have seen it afterwards on the floor, then decided it was a shadow. I could never manage to see him pull anything out of his jacket or use his left hand (but I am Old so...).

Boudreaux was arrested on several felony charges including home invasion and assault with a deadly weapon. Wolfson adds that this office is considering whether additional felony charges could be filed against Boudreaux.

Boudreaux was scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning but refused to be transported from jail. Judge Amy Wilson issued an order that she be brought to court next week "by any means necessary."

Nope, I'm on a 26" computer screen - don't see that at all.

Ok, my mistake. Fixed now.

Brandon's Facebook page. Looks like such a great guy, his death was so unnecessary. Brandon Durham

Shadows are not tan or white it's something the suspect pulled in between him and Brandon. If you slow it down to 0.25 and pause it 🤬🤬🤬 they are falling it's there. Very strange.

I 100% agree with your assessment of this situation. It is common sense that the person in underwear is most likely going to be the homeowner and he (the police officer) could have aimed the gun at any other part of the body and not the head and he would have managed to neutralise the danger. I would be interested to know how long this person has been in the police forces.

Here is an Isolated clip of when the suspect puts something between him and the homeowner. Turn the sound off. Playback speed 0.25 on the settings in the video. This is crazy looking, it is not a shadow because you can see the homeowner's shadow on the board or whatever the suspect put between himself and the homeowner.

Bookman is on paid leave while the Las Vegas Metro Police Department investigates whether he acted appropriately or should face criminal charges. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told Durham's family the investigation could take 30 to 90 days, according to CBS affiliate KLAS.
Boudreaux and Durham knew each other and had a sexual relationship, according to an arrest report obtained by KLAS 8. Boudreaux told detectives she intended to have police kill her on the day of the home invasion, the station reported, and Boudreaux has refused to appear at two court hearings.

Koren gave more details about the Bookman, the 26-year-old officer who shot Durham. He has been with the department since 2021, and is assigned to the Community Safety Division, part of the South Central Area Command. He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident, police said in a news release.
Also:
This is the 13th police shooting this year in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction, Koren said at the news conference, and it is the department's eighth fatal police shooting this year. Last year, there were six police shootings, two of which were fatal, he said.

For some reason I'm unable to replay the video you linked @autologicjosh but I think I might finally see what you're getting at? I was looking for black or silver and was seeing the jacket and jacket liner. When they are on the ground, there is something tan or off-white separating them. You can see later from the still at 6:49 that it looks like a chair was toppled over. You can see the chair leg and the label on the bottom of where the seat is. I think the beige thing between them is the back of the chair that was knocked over.

Is there something that I'm not seeing? It's weird how your eyes can play tricks when you watch it over and over so I start to doubt myself! Can you give the timestamp of where you see the shield being pulled out?

The suspect is female. Please stop misgendering her. Stick to the facts.

The suspect is booked into the jail as a male???? So it's obviously a male that indentfies as a female, which is fine.
