Precisely!

Not only would charging Karr based solely on his confession be a case killer in the future, it would forever damage the reputation of these attorneys.

If there is one thing attorney are it is egomaniacs. They don't like to be ridiculed by their peers and this would bring a butt load of it down if Karr was just a kook.

He either did it or knows who did. As for the Ramseys, I think they are just vain a-holes, to be honest that chose to put the interests of their reputation above that of finding their child's killer.

I've been a long time believer in the Ramsey's guilt, but the only thing that has me thinking Karr could possibly be involved is that I can't believe the Boulder DA would put herself on the line like this without solid evidence, beyond his kooky confession. Apparently, she is very well respected and there are a bunch of people who feel she would not have gone to such lengths to apprehend him if she didn't have reason to believe he was the one.

Rita Cosby (MSNBC) spoke with former classmate of JMK, Wendy Nichols. She claims that in the spring of '97, JMK was at her house helping her with her computer when a news report of the Ramsey case came on tv. She said it was like he "became enraged", talking about how incompetent they all were and then told her "he was there", and "he knew what happened".
Didn't he also say something about footprints in the snow?? When I see Rita I usually don't pay attention, but I did hear something about that.

Yes, he said he could tell them why there were no footprints in the snow because he was there.

Karr asked this girl, "Do you want to know why there were no footprints in the snow? (There was some cross-talk here, but I think she added that he said, "I can tell you why. I was there!".

The conversation sounds like it was this sequence (as best I can recollect, this is not a transcript of the conversation):

Karr:"Do you want to know why there were no footprints in the snow
Wendy N: No
Karr: I can tell you why - because I was there!

Ahhhh, thank you. It just gets curiouser and curiouser.

Also on Thursday, Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy responded to media requests that Karr's 90-page arrest affidavit be unsealed.

"Despite what may have been disclosed to the public over the many years since the crime, most of the evidence in the affidavit has not been disclosed," she said in a filing asking the judge to deny the request. "Our primary responsibility is to complete this investigation as thoroughly and as professionally as possible under the time constraints inherent in these very unusual circumstances."

A brief hearing to advise Karr of his rights is expected late Friday or on Monday.

They're not sure where he was. His family is saying he was either in one state or the other.

Mushy, this thread is entitled "Breaking News 8/25" and there has also been an accompanying Q & A daily thread. We have been doing this for quite a few days, so why change now??

Why not post links here also? It would very inconvenient to have to search for separate links, not to mention having to double post.

At Christmas, 1996, 32 year old John & Lara Karr lived in Hamilton, Alabama, and his younger half-brother Nate, then 24, and possibly their father, Wexford, lived in, or around, Atlanta. The families would either have Christmas together, in Hamilton, AL, or Atlanta, GA.

because it become difficult to find links and more then once there have been multiple links posted on the breaking news thread. The same story over and over.

What about the stories from a couple of days ago? You would have to go find the breaking news thread and then look through all the posts to find what you were looking for. I just thought this would be much easier to find a story/link on the case. I still think it would be easier.

ETA: If you look at other forums they have a media links/no discussion thread.

Can we post in both places?

All the other threads here get so cluttered with RDI that the media links page will be filled outdated links, not breaking news that is relevant to the JMK investigation.

Legal timeline for JonBenet suspect

• At a suspect's first appearance, or advisement hearing, he will be advised of the charges in the arrest warrant and of his rights. The judge also could appoint an attorney for Karr and set a date for the formal filing of charges.

• After charges are filed, the judge will schedule a preliminary hearing to determine whether enough evidence exists for a trial. Preliminary hearings are usually scheduled within 30 days of when charges are filed, but defendants can waive such hearings or ask that they be conducted later.

• In murder cases, the judge can deny bail based on the prosecution's request, but a hearing would be held if Karr asks that bail be set. That hearing could be combined with the preliminary hearing.

• If the judge determines enough evidence exists to justify a trial, the judge will schedule an arraignment at which Karr would be asked to enter a plea. If he pleads not guilty, the judge would schedule a trial within six months, but Karr could waive his right to a speedy trial and extend that period.

To be honest I was only trying to help. But if people think that it's too much of a problem that's fine.

IMO, having links in both places would be more useful.

Sounds like progress to me.

Thanks for the heads up!
