Karr Charged With Murder, Sex Assault in JonBenet Ramsey Case

By Zachary R. Mider

Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- John Mark Karr is charged with murder, kidnapping and sexual assault in the 1996 death of JonBenet Ramsey, a Los Angeles judge disclosed today.

Karr, who said he was present at the death of the 6-year-old beauty queen, was handed over to Boulder, Colorado, authorities after waiving his right to contest extradition in a hearing broadcast live on television.

Superior Court Judge Luis Lavin said Boulder County authorities filed five charges against Karr in the Ramsey case: first-degree murder with premeditation; first-degree felony murder; first-degree kidnapping; second-degree kidnapping; and sexual assault on a child.

Karr, wearing an orange jump suit, spoke only when Lavin asked if he agreed to waive the extradition hearing. ``Yes, your honor,'' he said.

A public defender's asked that Karr, 41, be allowed to wear civilian clothes while being transported to Colorado, arguing that media coverage could taint a jury pool. Lavin refused.

Karr has told reporters that Ramsey's death in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado, home was an ``accident.'' The former schoolteacher was arrested in Thailand last week and flown to Los Angeles.

JonBenet Ramsey was found dead by her father after being reported missing. The police focused their investigation on her parents, but John and Patsy Ramsey insisted that an intruder killed their daughter.

dragonfly, yes its now being reported Karr was in the Boulder area after the murder--If true, that will hurt the prosecution since it solidifies his weird obsession with child murders--like when he moved to Petaluma after the Klaas killing

I heard on CTV it is why the Court was delayed this morning. The Court issued a press release regarding it. He was charged with a felony for being a Fugitive from Justice in the State of California.

They have not seen or presumably heard from their father in 5 years & when they do see him he is on worldwide television proclaiming his love for a 6-year old girl that he killed "accidentally" and has his pants hiked all the way up to his man-🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. No therapy needed there.

Oh my goodness, I said almost the EXACT same thing on Saturday to my SIL and friends.

Great minds....?

Too funny.

Anyone see the UPI article about Karr's mother trying to kill him when he was a kid and his brother intervening. She was institutionalized. Perhaps this has a lot to do with some of his weirdness plus why he was partially raised by his grandparents/father.

I agree. I think his "weird obsession" helped him convince himself that he "was there" in a spiritual sense, when she was murdered. (That WOULD be a complicated thing to explain, and would take a rather long time to make people understand, as he indicated in his Bangkok pressy.)

This is just weird!!!!! I said last night if Davis had not confessed to killing Polly and the Killer was still loose he would say it was Him. I think he was with JBR in sprit alone. This man needs Mental health help in the worse way.

Being under arrest is differnt than being charged with a crime. There is a warrant issued for his arrest out of CO for the several counts of kidnap, murder, etc.
Once he is in the custody of the CO LE, they have 72 hours to either file charges or let him go.
He is not charged with murder at this time.
Thanks....that makes more sense than what the Fox reporterette was trying to say.

JDB, I agree with you completely. I suspect if someone asked him, he would claim to have "been with" Polly when she died, too. I think he believes he *WAS* there.

F.R.E.A.K.Y.!!

I did not say it was a defense. I am saying this man is sick in the head. I still say he is not the one.

Who ever killed her is sick in the head. I think everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Too bad the Ramsey’s were not also given the same benefit of the doubt.

Although, I wouldn’t be as all surprised if JMK is the killer.

He moved there after her death. (He may have subbed for the former classmates from her 2nd grade class, but I had not heard that.)

Has anyone else noticed the lack of professionalism in the cable coverage?

The just had that woman on CNN from Court TV who was mixing JMK statements to the press with these unverified email reports from 5 years ago as if they were one and the same statment.

that is frustrating, when we have to put up with missleading info like this on CNN

christine, Polly Klaas was kidnapped and murdered on Oct, 1, 1993. JMK lived in Hamilton, Alabama until the summer of 2000, when he moved to Petaluma with his family.
