Absolutely tragic R.I.P to all concerned. Those poor families having to bury their loved ones just before Christmas. It's another reminder to all of us to make the most of our lives as we don't know what it is in the future.

So very sad. The mother looks a lot like my own daughter. Really has hit me hard.

"Less than 24 hours after a stay-at-home mom and her two young children died when a small plane crashed into their Gaithersburg home, more than $175,000 has been raised in their honor."

That's great so much has been raised already for the dad and daughter who have lost everything. I can't imagine the heartbreaking pain of the lady who died husband losing his wife and two infant sons. I feel so sad for him and the little girl who has lost her mum, two brothers and her house. Not forgetting the families of those on the plane who died as well. Life can be so cruel sometimes.

(snip)

Gemmell grew up in Brick, NJ and was a 1997 graduate from Brick Memorial High School, according to Brick NJ Patch. She and her son – Cole, 3, loved soccer which he had just begin playing and baby boy Devin was born on Oct. 23. She and her husband just celebrated their 10 year anniversary and had met at Rowan University.

Thank you so much for posting all the info in this tragedy. I always know I can come here and get all the UTD info in one place.

That being said, I am heartbroken for the families. Simply heartbroken. My deepest condolences to all the families and friends of the victims of this horrific accident.

Notes from presser:

CVR recording is good quality, captures full length of flight from Chapel Hill, 57 min long,
Cruising altitude 23,000 feet

Airplane certified for single pilot operation. There was a passenger in co-pilot seat the entire flight. Minimal conversation during arrival.

ATC provided radar vectors for RNAV GPS approach to runway 1-4

Automated radio altitude call out of 500 feet at 32 seconds from end of recording

At 20 seconds before end, stall warning call out that continued to end. (Aerodynamic stall, not engine stall)

Preliminary flight data recorder info:

Contained 300 parameters including last 178 hours of operation.
Configured for landing, flaps were extended, landing gear was down.
Throughout flight, engine speeds followed the throttle commands.
Lowest recorded air speed 88 knots. At that point there were large excursions in pitch and roll.
About 2 seconds after lowest speed, the throttles were advanced and the engines responded

Sorry, my station cut away from the presser after this.

Husband / Father's FB post

"No words can describe the enormity of our loss and sadness over yesterday's tragedy," he wrote. "We lost Marie, the love of my life and college sweetheart, and our two young, innocent and joyful sons -- a loss that no person should ever endure."
He thanked friends and supporters and asked for privacy "so I can provide my daughter with some degree of normalcy as we try to re-build."

Heartbreaking...

"The way they found them, it looked like she was trying to shelter them from the smoke and fire," Montgomery County Police Capt. Paul Starks told ABC News today.

Sitting here with tears in my eyes I will light a candle and say a prayer when I go to mass. I hope they are able to see a councillor/therapist to help them deal with the magnitude of what has happened in the months ahead.

This is so heartbreaking. When I first heard of the plane crash, I panicked. I have a friend who lives there with two kids. I didn't hear of the kids ages or third child. I quickly learned it wasn't her and was relived, but then saddened again. This poor husband, child and rest of the family. There is never a good time to lose your family, but Christmas time is the hardest.
