BREAKING: NY - James Burke, ex-police chief of Suffolk County, arrested for soliciting a male undercover officer, 22 Aug 2023

  • #81
Here's what he was earning 2021 and earlier

Suffolk County, New York records show James Burke held one job from 2017 to 2021. One of the most recent records in 2021 lists a job of Police Sergeant and a pay of $173,498. This is 109.1 percent higher than the average pay for co-workers and 150.2 percent higher than the national average for government employees.

It’s hard to figure if he’s actively employed as a police sergeant - perhaps on administrative leave or if that’s a pension. In either case, who approved either and how can they possibly justify his not being fired and losing any pension? The top cop/the chief committed and was convicted of a violent crime which he then made worse through intimidating and threatening his subordinates- in an attempted coverup.

How the arrest of JBurke could have an impact on RH's defense (according to this reporter)... interesting.

But, maybe we shouldn't post it on the RH arrest thread, though. jmo

I'm thinking about this a little more and I've always assumed Burke was a sociopath who didn't want any agencies he couldn't control digging around in the sex trade and subcultures that surround it on LI because his participation in that underworld would likely be discovered- but I ruled him out as LISK: too risky, too far-fetched.

But this latest arrest?

This tells us he's got compulsions around transgression and taboos (I don't want to say *deviance* because gay/queer sex isn't deviant). He could have easily hooked up on an app or in a bar, but that probably wouldn't have delivered the same thrill for him, too vanilla. I'm starting to finally believe that his sociopathy and thrill-seeking could include murder, and I'm back thinking about the asian person listed as male, but dressed in women's clothing, and Sugar Bear again.

I REALLY would like to know what type of "deviant pr0n" was in that bag of his that was stolen consisted of, and whether there were real or simulated acts of violence or torture. If there were, I super hope the task force is taking another look at him with fresh eyes too.
In the podcast “unraveled” they interviewed the man who stole the bag and was beaten. in the first episode of season 1, he claimed there was a “snuff film“ in the bag with the toys. I will tell you that I didn’t believe that. To me, it did sound like he was exaggerating that part. But the podcast goes on throughout the first season to interview LE who worked with Burke and at least one said that he asked them if they knew where to find a good snuff film. So now, I’m on the fence.

That story is also told in the book "Jimmy the King" (author - Gus Garcia-Roberts). The officer who related the story has a name that begins with T; after his LE service, he served in the state legislature.

It was Officer T's first experience meeting JB after JB became Chief of Suffolk PD. Officer T asked Burke what he meant and Burke's reply was both frightening and tone deaf given the unsolved serial murders of escorts occurring in his jurisdiction.

I went to check market for snuff movies, there exists a lot of denial about their existence.
This from 2000, it's concerning children though

His twisted pleasure for sure. This guy made a huge living while on the job, still collects a nice pension and all he had to do was fly under the radar after getting out of prison and live a cushy, quiet retirement but even that seems too difficult for him. He has a lot of bad demons. What a waste.
He's scarier to me than Heuermann is.

Corruption in Suffolk County, NY

Given the tremendous lot of exposed corruption in SC, NY (LE and county elected officials) why did it come as a surprise that part of SC, including Massapequa Park, is in George Santos’ district?

What better way to hide corruption than to put a questionable guy in office at the federal or even state level.
Massapequa Park is not SC

Massapequa Park is not SC
The point is that Santos’ Congressional District includes Massapequa Park in addition to parts of SC. Basically, if some corrupt officials had knowledge of a likely suspect but would rather the investigation not be successfully concluded, then having a crooked Congressional member could be advantageous.

Right?

The desires and consensual actions on them are not the problem.

Yet, THAT is embarrassing to him?

All the harm he's caused and he doesn't want it out there that he likes... whatever.

MOO
and it was reported to have occurred at 10:15 AM (according to Newsday). I had no idea that this was a known spot to meet up, and I had lived right near for years.

Attorney speaks about latest arrest of JBurke having impact on RH's arrest. (Which is the 2nd time I've heard mention of this possibility)

I was thinking yesterday when this news broke…I wonder exactly why Spota took him under his wing at such a young age and groomed him to be a top-ranking officer. Made me wonder if he was grooming him in a different way too… Burke was only about 14 or 15 when Spota came into his life in a big way.

I had no idea the two of them traveled to Asian countries together. This wreaks of something shady.
I always assumed that JB and Spota were romantically involved. JMO.

I don't see how it can. HR wasn't on LE's radar until 2022. Burke was hindering the investigation. He was not misleading it or misdirecting blame to other individuals. He simply was just not letting the investigators...investigate. He knew his own skeletons would come flying out of the closet like tupperware! MOO

I'm optimistic too, that such a strategy by RH defense team will fail completely.

But it will have an impact. It is SOP for defense to say: look at the mess this investigation has been from the start. How can the jury really trust the evidence? How do we know there isn't evidence that creepy MP or JB, or convicted violent felons JB or JB aren't the real culprits? Especially the violent felon JB who had control of SCPD and the DA, and thus could have manipulated evidence.

Yet, the filing by the DA to request incarceration pending trial gives me confidence that there is plenty of affirmative evidence against Rex Heuermann.

Perhaps he misled the direction of the investigation and disregarded the leads about the ogre, the green avalanche and the camo patterned burlap to steer detectives away from RH- maybe because he had some previous connection to RH- whether as an accomplice or just someone in a sick circle of perverts.

Well.. when it rains it pours. Sounds like the guy has a double life. I think he was married before... to a woman, wasn't he?

I drove to a nice part of local park one day to eat lunch.. a nice open parking lot with a few trees around the edge to block the sun.

This guy in a car about 30 yards away kept looking at me. I thought, well that's weird, then I guess since I didn't respond... another car came up and parked on the other side. the guy started eyeing him.

I now suspect he was trying to pick me up. LOL. I'm 100% hetero so no wonder it seemed so off & awkward.

So, it does happen in parks and my encounter was very subtle.. so maybe it is happening right under our noses all the time

Years ago, I used to go walking regularly at the National Iwo Jimo Memorial, in Arlington, VA. I had quite a few gay friends and a few suggested I not go there alone in the evenings because it was a well known hook up spot for men seeking intimate interactions. I had no idea but later it was confirmed when I went there with a friend, one summer evening. For me, it was a case of “ya don’t know what ya don’t know” - until ya do, of course.

Exactly. He could have. And that could cloud the case against RH.

But I think if Burke did participate in parties- in a yucky way or a criminal way or any way between- it doesn't get Heuermann off the hook.

Also, if Burke tried to suppress witness evidence, it appears he didn't suppress it enough. Ambers roommates have put themselves in danger to get justice for her. Burke probably hoped they'd fade away. But they are alive, they are not in jail, and they are credible.

Exactly, neither one would necessarily be off the hook.

I suppose it could cast a shadow on BaRD. Let's hope not. I couldn't imagine this man walking around free.
