Happening now.
Listening to the gov. speaking, he said the plane was carrying around 280,000 gallons of fuel , heading toward Hawaii.

Imo-- Like a bomb going off if it ignites. 😢

Also from the Daily Mail link I just posted, in the video it looks like the pilots were trying to get the plane down and land/slow it down/stop it, just before it ignited ?
So they were trying to prevent an accident and call for emergency help, possibly.

Hoping that when it happened it was very fast and they felt/knew nothing.
Utmost condolences to the families.

Video of the takeoff seems to show the left engine fully engulfed in flames. Just lifts off and then stalls and crashes. Flashbacks of AA191 at O'Hare in 1979.
I hadn't read about that crash ?
There's a YT vid. about the Florida Everglades crash and part of the program mentioned ongoing issues with the DC-10 (?).

Am assuming here that this plane today (MD-11 ?) had a decent safety record thus far, and as it was expected to get to HI, I'm certain there were safety checks, if not maybe even double ones ?
A catastrophic accident that no one could have foreseen nor prevented ?
I do hope they can find out for the sake of the deceased 's loved ones !

My dad would never fly on a DC 10 after the O’Hare crash.

They just said people are reporting pieces of burned mail are raining down and also raining oil. 😢

Gov. Andy Beshear did not confirm if the 3 known fatalities were the crew; but it was probably impossible for them to escape ?

I saved a screengrab from the live of the debris field and the areas affected :

The male anchor just said that one of the buildings the plane crashed into was a petroleum facility that manufactured jet fuel ? :(

NEW: Security camera shows UPS Flight 2976 crashing in Louisville, Kentucky

Thanks for that clear video.

It looked like the plane's landing had been put back down or released, as if they were trying to set down ?
Sorry I'm not familiar with airplane terminology.
Also I was trying to see if all of the plane parts were attached or if anything had broken or fallen off previously ?
Is it possible there was human/mechanical error, albeit accidental which I'm assuming at this time.
Imo.

Four fatalities now.
Number is expected to rise.

If you find debris, do not touch it-- call it in.
Sign up for Lens Alert if you're in the area ?
Another presser at 10:20 with the mayor.
Imo.

Very worried about the number of people that were on the ground when it crashed, looks like a built up busy industrial area 😞

Yes, also thinking about the firefighters and ems workers tonight.
Hope they will all stay safe and I am sorry for what they have to see.
There are reasons I could never work in certain occupations.

I live fifteen minutes from UPS in Louisville. Very sad night for all of us. I couldn’t believe all the pictures. Daily Mail had some good ones. Coverage from one of our local stations, WLKY.com, has been extensive. I feel so sorry for all the crew and people on the ground. I believe the death and injury toll will rise. Please pray for everyone. schools have been closed for tomorrow. I am sure the main roadways will be a nightmare until all the clean-up and investigation is complete. The smell was awful. They crashed right across the street from a huge Ford plant with workers on duty. I am grateful they didn’t hit the Ford plant but we still don’t know how bad it was for other businesses.

i watch UPS planes take off and land continuously throughout the day and to think three of their own are lost just really hurts. The plane was just taking off and heading for Honolulu. Unsure what happened.

I frequently work in Louisville, and used to stay at an airport hotel when I was in town. It was close to several of the companies where I conduct training.

I started staying at a hotel that was farther away because the airport was so busy and I got tired of the almost constant noise of low planes overhead.

There are so many businesses and plants in the vicinity of the airport, this tragedy could have been much worse.
