We know from the reports that the suspect grabbed the Nov. and Dec. victims from behind. With the Dec. victim, the suspect used some sort of neck hold on her that caused her to lose conscious for a few minutes.

Consider this scenario..........................Brianna didn't go to bed right away. She was on the phone with her boyfriend at 4:23am. The suspect may have been outside lurking for some time, watching her and waiting for the opportune moment to grab her.

Just as Brianna turns out the light and prepares to lie down on the sofa, the suspect quietly slips though the unlocked door and grabs her from behind as he did the others. He puts his hand over her mouth and his forearm is gripping her neck in a hold. As with the Dec. victim, the suspect applied pressure and Brianna lost conscious. He laid her on the sofa while he quickly finds something to gag her with, and he finds the pink underwear in a pile of dirty clothes nearby. Brianna had struggled against her attacker and her lip was cut and she left blood on the pillow. The suspect uses the pink underwear to gag Brianna before he carries her out to his vehicle.

Brianna regains consciousness in the suspect's vehicle and he tells her not to look at him or he'll have to kill her. The suspect removes the gag in preparation for sexual assault, and Brianna screams and fights him. It's at this point that he kills her, strangling her with his hands to stop her from screaming.
It's a good scenario and it makes sense to account for the blood on the pillow and how the perp could've overcome Brianna from behind like he did the other victims. I believe he'd been in the house before or at least knew who lived there, and I do think Brianna fought or screamed which caused him to kill her.

Also, he may not have wanted Brianna alive because she was at the apartment with other people. If they had woken up to screaming and struggling, he could have been caught right there or they could have seen that Brianna was gone and had police looking for suspicious vehicles immediately. He must have wanted to take Brianna out of the apartment to commit the attack in the easiest way possible for himself since he was unsucessful a few times before. Since they believe she was dead before being taken and he went ahead and comitted some sexual act on a dead person, to me, that almost seems what he was wanting to do.

Have we confirmed that there was a sexual assault AFTER Brianna died, i.e. necrophilia? I know we had discussed it, and it seems like it is highly possible with some of the information we have heard, but I was just wondering if we have anything concrete on this aspect of the crime?

I may just be assuming that Brianna was sexually attacked elsewhere since LE said that she was killed at the beginning and didn't know anything that happened.

Thats a good question, and I don't think we know that answer.

I don't think LE ever made that statement. Her aunt who was speaking for the family in one interview said that they, meaning the family, had been told by police that she didn't feel or wasn't here( I DON'T RECALL THE EXACT PHRASING) for what happened to her. So I took that to mean that the worst of the atrocities he committed she was probably gone by then or in such a state that she would not have felt or comprehended them. From what LE has said this crime must have been very brutal..so although she may have been alive for the sexual assualt, if any torture was involved hopefully she was beyond comprehension at that time. Also after she died I took from their remarks that maybe certain things may have been done to the body.

I don't think that LE has ever stated when they think that she was killed.

Also to my knowledge, LE has never stated that she was raped or even sexually assaulted. They did say, however, that they thought that it was a "sexually motivated" crime.

Does anyone know why Briannas Dad died? I think he died about 7 years ago.He must have been very young. Just curious.

Good morning -

I just thought of something with the description of the radio from the Dec. vic. Forgive me if it was brought up back in the beginning of the case.

Would the red and blue LED mean that the car was turned on during the attack? Or is it something that glows even when the car is off? I've never seen that in a car personally, so forgive me if that is a dumb question  .

Not a dumb question. I don't think it's been discussed whether or not the vehicle was running. I think that in most vehicles the LED lights on the radio wouldn't work unless the ignition was switched to accessories. Perhaps the suspect had the radio going to drown out any sounds of a struggle or screaming?

3,000 DNA samples have now been processed from the backlog, but there is no match to Brianna's killer. Big surprise, huh? On a good note, this statement was in the article:

"But processing those sample did produce DNA matches in 30 other unsolved cases going back seven years. Those cases included a sexual assault, a weapons violation and several burglaries and robberies."

I also found this statement in the article interesting....I am assuming they are talking about the idiot trying to break into the home of the previous victim who had left the country??

"The suspect who abducted Brianna Denison is linked by DNA to her murder and to two other sexual attacks against college women in the Reno area. DNA also links the suspect to a burglary of home that took place just hours before Denison was kidnapped."

Thanks Leila. I guess the victim could have seen that when he drove her back to her house, not necessarily during the attack. But if the car was running during the attack, I would think it could be helpful if people had seen a car parked with its lights on in the middle of the night. I know a lot of people aren't up that late, but it was a Saturday night, and maybe someone passed by whereever they were parked and noticed that it looked a little suspicious, but never did anything.

Has it ever been said exactly where the freak took the rape victim? I can't remember everything.

This case…nah, that wouldn't be fair. The LE working this case has frustrated the s**t out of me! As for this site, I think there are several other members who are frustrated as well. So for question number one:

Are the LE authorities in Reno and surrounding areas afraid to release any further information regarding this crime? Or are they in fact inept and don't have anything else?

I am NOT being rude or discourteous; however, they have already proven that they are unable to apprehend this 'unsub' on their own; therefore, I'm very puzzled why further information is not forthcoming.

For instance, I would like to know the condition of the December victim after the fact. I do realize that they were on Christmas Break and extended for MLK, Jr. observance, but did she travel to (home) wherever for that reason, or, did she travel because of the incident or both. Her condition means so much; I can't fathom why they haven't released it. More research on my part.

I do not feel that it is unlikely that this person works for an airline. Those who have worked in that business in any capacity knows that changing shifts, working ramp, in flight, ticketing, or gate is simply there for the asking. I see that it is very conceivable that this nutcase could be both a part-time student and work for an airline; graduated and work for an airline. Why an airline?

It's easy to switch around capacities vis-a-vie America West, Reno Air (still in business?) Southwest these are a few of the airlines I know allow for cross training and certification. So ostensibly this person could be working the 'ramp' outdoor baggage handling, or working late aircraft turns or layovers. When the heat really starts up, up and it's Arizona, Montana, Las Vegas, or California, Oregon or Washington; most folks in the airline business have friends in other airport areas.

I understand the frustration as there has been no "apparent" movement since her body was found. I believe the info about the underwear is the only thing they have shared since then?? While important this info isn't going to be helpful to 99.9% of people who may come in contact with the killer. This case will quickly fade into the background with most people, sadly enough. However, it is hard to criticize LE not knowing what they have to work with. From what we know, it is unlikely they will find him without help from the public. DNA does little good in identifying him. We can only hope that they have some solid information and are closing in on someone...we have no way of knowing what kind of job they are doing. There are two things I feel safe in assuming...one is that they are doing the best they can and working hard at it...I doubt anyone is taking 2 hour lunch breaks. The other thing is that the longer they go without an arrest the less the chances are that there will be one. Chances are very good that if anyone was going to come forward they have already done so. Without another attempt /attack there isn't going to be much, if any, new evidence coming in.

Hey softsoul,

Unfortunate by true...my feeling is it will be a stumble-upon situation. I agree they're working as hard as possible; yet, somewhere I read (rgj, I think) that with every new piece of evidence released LE has received like 2500 leads!

I just feel that with America's Most Wanted, Scared Monkeys, WS, the dedicated websites, and all others, an organization would WANT that extra person and will power to assist. I just can't see letting a good and willing work force idle. Oh well...CHEERS mate!

I generally don't assume to know what LE is or isn't doing in a case. I guess you could call me a bit of a fence sitter in that respect. But there are many cases where LE has really sat on their thumbs and made big mistakes. I read this morning that they found a vehicle with a possible body in it, in a retention pond in the area where Harold "Brad" Hensley went missing about two years ago. The area was his home neighborhood, and I can't for the life of me think of why they would just NOW be checking that pond. This man's family has suffered for 2 years when checking the pond would have seemed one of the most logical things to do from the get-go in his case. The pond was checked when new investigators were brought in on the case.
