Yes, I've always thought she fit bri's killers profile too. I would like to know more about Isidro "diego", and also Mariela's ex boyfriend too, but I haven't seen any reason to rule it out as a connection to Bri's case.

I was born and raised in Salt Lake, which is about an 8 hour drive to Vegas. People do it all the time, especially in the age range of the perp, and especially on New Years and other Holidays. I wouldn't have much of a hard time believing the perp took a little trip. The time frame also matches the perps MO, as she was supposedly dropped off in front of her home around 4:30 AM. Not to mention it would fit in nicely in a timeline. Not long after the Dec. vic was abducted in front of her home and assaulted and returned home. Not too long before He returned to the Dec. vic's home and tried to break in, and his aduction and murder of Bri. It actually fits a pattern of escalation quite nicely.

Ok I want to correct two things from my above post.
1. I meant to say that Mariela fits the profile of the killers preferred vic's. Not that that she fits the killers profile.

And also I'm not sure if the dec. Vic being abducted from in front of her home was fact or rumor, anyone know?

Ss,
It's always nice sleuthing with you. I don't always agree with everything you post, as I'm sure you don't always agree with mine. But I always enjoy your posts and thought processes. The same goes for all who post here.

Yes, victim #2 in December was abducted from the parking lot as she was walking towards her home.

Thanks, StillHoping! Is nice to feel appreciated altho I honestly was trying to make a point with Dad and not to fish for compliments here. (He seemed to be trying to stifle my creativity. LOL) I don't think people always need to agree and it is how we learn. :)

Your input is greatly appreciated, Dad. You have to allow others to follow their instincts and use their own methods to arrive at their own theories, decisions, and thoughts. We don't have to think alike to arrive the same place. :)

SS you are correct to my way of thinking. ...For example I woke up this morning thinking of this case again. My thoughts and feelings were that the perp works possibly at St. Mary's hospital near UNR and has military background....knows computers and how to fix things mechanically....and he lives closer to where the body was found. Now I have no logical reasoning for this just a gut hunch....also have felt from day one that someone in that apt know or has seen him casually...he has been in the apt before...either invited or not...I also think the number 6 is somehow tied in...Also felt there was a trailer involved maybe a trailer park where he can keep a boat...Like an RV park.

I know they will catch him I just wish it was sooner rather then later.

Or you could have that backwards...maybe she was his second murder victim.

They found the body of Mariela Moreno on Feb. 29th in Sunset Park in Las Vegas, NV. She could have been Bri's twin from the pics I have seen. She went missing on Jan 1, 2008 about 4:30 am supposedly after her BF dropped her off at home. No word on COD or how long she had been there.

I agree he did go from a fumbling rapist to a murderer in a short time period. What causes a person to graduate so quickly?

I'm not sure if I think he is escalating quickly or not. If he is in his late 20's or 30's then he is right in the age range that most serial killers (if this is what he is becoming) first kill. And there are reports that he was very brutal with the Dec. rape victim. However, if you interpret LE's statement about most of us not being able to comprehend what he has done as indicating that Brianna's murder was especially gruesome then I would agree.

One theory could be that he is driven by power and control. The rapes were not getting him noticed. He knew that a brutal murder would get attention and terrify the community. If so, I think he accomplished his goal. Another theory would say that he has experienced something in his life that sent him into another level of rage. Of course it could be a combination of both situations.

I tend to think that Brianna was his first murder. He had every opportunity to kill the December victim and chose to take her home. If he had killed before then even a brutal rape likely wouldn't be enough to satisfy him. However, there may have been other reasons he doesn't kill all his victims.

You know the saying, friends don't let friends . . .

Actually, I had hoped to find, on this site, logic and reason in discussing factual evidence and engage in thoughtful and reasonable speculation. That just seems to be sparse much of the time and replaced with thoughts so far from it, the box is invisible.

And it is out of the random speculation into the invisible that perhaps one can find that nugget of gold that allows the treasure hunt to end.........There are no right or wrong answers...this isn't a test...this is a compilation of thoughts reasonable and factual...that allows a certain deduction for each individual. I am grateful that there are so many intelligent and wonderful, thoughtful, observant people on this website. Thank you for all doing your part and caring so much..

Guestwriter, you said that so eloquently. :)

Funny you should mention a trailer park or RV park...AMW keeps saying Victim #2 was taken to a residence (they could just have their story messed up as their site doesn't reflect that story, but it is what they have said on various interviews). Construction sites have traiilers used for offices and storage where there would be no fear of someone hearing screams.

i came down with a nasty stomach bug around 4 am yesterday morning...tossed my cookies most of the day, so i'm completely lost on this 'story'....but it DID snow here:)

so there's nothing new, the guy on myspace isn't a suspect, & no one's in jail..

Sorry you are so ill, Close. Hope you are better very soon!!

No, no arrest, no suspects, and nothing but a pink pair of panties to report.

About a one night stand. I just wonder if a murdering psycho rapist who is most likely married with a child actually has one night stands. I know his face hasn't been seen either, but he really doesn't sound very attractive with a long square face and a short goatee. His stomach is officially described as not "excessively large but not flabby and he's not muscular". He has a dorky tan, pale white abdomen, and is not a large guy. God, can you imagine waking up to some guy with a shaved pelvic region, but with hair on his arms and chin, not in shape, and a farmer's tan! I think those girls are way too attractive to be attracted to something like that. Brianna was beautiful so I imagine her friends are too. Just my opinion.
Two words: beer goggles:crazy: .

I have seen college age women fight over boys I wouldn't consider any kind of a "catch"! Personality does play a part in what girls find attractive, I guess. Not all of them would be so particular of his farmer's tan, his square face, or the scruff on his chin if he were popular among the group. Have you looked at some of the college age boys lately with beautiful women hanging all over them?!

I believe he could have found the panties randomly that night at MacKay Court, but the problem I'm having is him taking all this time and possibly making commotion to do this.

I do not believe that the panties would have been left out in the open in the common area. Girls in general can be slobs, but most draw the line at leaving their undergarments lying around where other people - especially men - can see them.

How did this guy find the laundry room, even know one was there? Why would he risk spending extra time in this house? And if he did, how did the other girls not hear him? If this guy was walking around trying to find underwear, wouldn't you hear it, a creak in the floor or something, versus him taking two steps to come in the door to the couch and back out with Brianna in his arms?

I feel like this second pair of underwear is more baffling than the first.
It is confusing! From what I remember though, wasn't Brianna just staying there that particular night/early morning after going out with her friends? The description of what she was wearing when she disappeared (cami top and sweat pants) seemed like she may have borrowed the clothes from either KT or Jessica since it doesn't seem like something she would've worn that evening. So along those lines, maybe the underwear was borrowed too and she was originally wearing it? I also wonder about DNA and if some can remain on clothes, especially panties, even after it's washed (like if not thoroughly washed)? I don't see the perp wandering around the house after everyone was home when he was in there to abduct Brianna, but I do think it's entirely possible he was in there while they were all out and came back.

ITA. I have no doubt if Bri's Killer killed Mariela, he will have left his DNA at the scene. I wonder if Mariela was wearing a pair of pp underwear when she disappeared. Perhaps she had contact with isidro that night.

For thinking outside the box here, I think a lot of this fits quite nicely.
I agree that the victim description and time of day match up, and it's very possible he could be in Las Vegas (some serial killers have been known to travel, such as the Night Stalker) but if he'd left his DNA, I would think by now LE would know it's the same killer since the DNA would now be in a state database.

  • #235
Has LE ever said where they got the DNA from the Nov. 13 attack?

I also have a comment . Correct me if I"m wrong but it's very possible that the PP underwear had nothing to do with the Mackay house, never even saw the inside of the house and could have been acquired by the killer at a laundromat in Tulsa in February for all I know. They were found with the pink
ones at the site where they found Brianna. I don't remember LE suspecting that they came into play in this particular crime prior to him leaving them with her.

It was stated early on that Bri did bring a change of clothes which probably are the clothes she wore to sleep as they mentioned her other clothes were left behind along with her cell phone etc. so I don't think she borrowed from the girls.

It is my understanding that DNA wouldn't withstand washing and water would render it inconclusive in testing.

Thanks :) I wasn't sure if she had planned to stay the night there or just ended up doing that, since her parents also live in Reno. So that would take that theory out of the equation!

We can only hope that their system in Las Vegas isn't as backed up as it is in Reno. Chances are it is and it has not made the database yet. Getting LE to run it as a possible match to Bri's murder would place it ahead and have it done much faster, but only if Reno requests it...which I very much doubt they will.

I only wish that Bri had decided to go home after going out. :(

I couldn't find any specifics on where the DNA was found, but only that the perp did leave behind unopened packages of condoms. (I did see what appeared to be a dark stain on the package which could indicate where it was tested for fingerprints or it could be something else.)

I agree that the PP thong could have no relation to that house and LE does not know one way or another. There is nothing that would tie it to there yet besides it being "intertwined" with the pink pair they know came from there.
